My five year old and I wait with excitement for each of the Ascent Highlights video releases. We watched Discovery launch on its penultimate flight and feel a great kinship to this shuttle. This video really upheld our adoration for the Shuttle program and Discovery in particular. Well done!
Please if you have the link to find the "Victorious" song send it to me. Thanks!! and great video, have always been a big fan of the shuttle missions.
@nathar83 Tyvek covers over the maneuvering thrusters put there so rain wouldn't get inside while the vehicle is on the ground. They are designed to fall off after liftoff, the bag-like appearance is so the would catch air flowing by and peel them off the vehicle.
In case anyone is curious the song "Victorious" is on a CD from a music company called Non Stop Music. The CD name is Premiere Action 2, Victorious is track #9. Awesome tune for an equally awesome machine. I'm glad I had the opportunity to see a shuttle launch first hand (it was Discovery), it was one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced! I wish my son could have been able to see a launch, videos just are not the same.
Amazing. I was an elementary student & saw every launch with a tv rolled in. I watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon in my class. This is an example of the magic math & science bring together. Plus it brought us drama making our human experience more complete.
I loved the way that the video was choreographed with the music, which was almost as inspiring as the images themselves. I was disappointed to not be able to find some of the music. In any case, this has become my very favorite montage film!
A wonderful tribute to Discovery. I particularly enjoyed the final detail: "Farewell Discovery, and we thank you." Reminiscent of the words that Joe Kerwin, who was CAPCOM at the end of Apollo 13's voyage, addressed to Aquarius almost 41 years ago, as that brave little lunar module slipped back into the atmosphere, its mission as a lifeboat having succeeded.
This is a superb video. One last look at the power and intensity of the ascent, and a fine tribute to a ship that has truly changed history. I've been with her since the maiden voyage, and this final flight tugs on some heartstrings. She will be missed.
We will miss NASA's STS-133 Discovery OV-103, She has been a Great Orbiter.
Thanks to the Crew members Mike Barratt & Cuz Nikki Stott for the visits to the PAD RAT shops at 39 A. The Film Crew from Transformers 3 & Ian Bryce support YOU.
I used to love watching the scenes from space as they sent back footage of the earth, on tv and then it stopped for some reason. It was awesome! Would love to see more!
Wow. Growing up in the late 70s / 80s I always thought the shuttle was an also ran as I wanted to see a moon landing myself. This video really brought home what an amazing achievement the shuttle really is. I feel so sad the program is ending with no replacement
that was a cool video. i work for the company that makes the engines, and the whole place all goes to conferences rooms to watch each launch. and people cheer after each one.
Outstanding production! Special thanks to all the teams who made Discovery’s contribution to many of humanity’s greatest achievements possible. Farewell Discovery and have a safe trip back home.
"Song of Heroes" from 08:53 seems to be written for videos like this. Absolutely awesome. Can't wait for the highlights video when my favourite shuttle, Atlantis, flies for the last time... :-)
@loadingraivis88 Some foam liberated from the PAL ramp on the ET about 3:50 into the flight. It was high enough that there wasn't a concern about it, and that lack of concern proved correct.

As a KSC worker, I'll miss a vibrant Space Program. Sad to see the wonderful Shuttle Orbiters retired but they served us well.
Also, thanx to those that 'slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the Face of God.' You will never be forgotten. Challenger & Columbia & crews.

I wonder how many seconds, minutes or hours Discovery had traveled to past (or future, don't know) due to relativity.
