vargo stoves work fine however good luck finding one with the legs welded straight on the body, ive seen many that wouldnt hold a cup without it rocking on the legs.
Again......... you are handicapping the Trangia. There are many stove systems, including what I feel is the best: Clikstand, which has a dedicated/integrated windscreen. When I use an MSR Reactor® 1.7l pot, I have 2c boil time of 4min 25sec. The Vargo stove has few proponents, mainly because it is a piece of kaka. So, if you guys intend on continuing to speak about, and make pronouncements about CH3OH stoves, please educate yourselves about it before you show us any more of your ignorance
There are a variety of windscreen/potstands sold for the Trangia burner. Many fold compactly. A simple one can be made from three 6" x 2" peices of aluminum that lock together to form a triangle. Put the burner in the middle. Light it. Put a pot on top. Cook.
I use my Trangia inside a 4oz titanium Vargo Hexagon woodstove as windscreen/potstand. Folds flat- and burns wood very well also.
But it's not very 'tactical'. It wouldn't kill anybody.
I have been using the Trangia Mini for a couple of years now and it never failed me yet. If you ran out of Alcohol fuel, you can always use the stove itself by using some twigs, pine cones & dried wood & then you just have a converted wood stove! I had some pop cans before but i always ended up stepping & crushing them by mistake due to carelessness. Pressurized stoves are dangerous & could blow up. Trangia stoves all the way & for the win for me!
@mrouterrim the trangia actually comes as a cook kit. at least the one i got from rei did. totally happy with it. honestly, this is the second time ive seen this guy demo this and i keep waiting for him to do it correctly. havent seen it yet. the vargo ive had and dont like because it was harder than hell to open and close the actual burner. wouldnt recommend it. now, maybe someone else likes it and it worked well, it didnt for me. ive got another vargo purchased at rei that i do like. one piece
Don't have one of the Vargo stoves, but do have the Trangia (4) and made quite a number of the soda can stoves in different sizes. LOVE THEM ALL ! Just for the reasons that you talked about.....compact....lightweight....easy to pack in a complete kit (with the fuel as well). Much better than a PEAK 1 or a Coleman Single Burner Propane with fuel.Packs well in both my GHB and my BOB.
Dude! 1- I love your vids!, 2- Where can I get the sticker/patch on your Nalgene bottle? Is it a squad patch, custom logo, or your favorite patch that you found?
Great video, but I should caution that if you use methanol in your stove then you might want to put the stove/fuel in a ziplock bag if you intend to store it inside your cooking gear. You don't want methanol contaminating your cookware!

I like the trangia because the large fuel capacity and simmer ring allows me to bake muffins or bannock.

OK Hi-Speed.
It's AL-KOH-HAUL. Not AKK-O-HAWL.
