Hey . If i use my whole hdd for ubuntu will it delete all my stuff i had with xp like all my songs with limewire? And i have an 80 gb hdd and i have like 50 gb used up. If i partition more more gb then the free space i have what will happen? Thanks
itll get deleted, yes. But I shouldn't tell you that, since I hope you lose all that stuff with limewire... just buy the song, and don't complain your poor. If your poor, don't buy music... or at least get it from a friend.
If you use more space than the free space your songs will be deleted. You could use Piratebay to download you songs it is fairly safer than other p2p's. But 30 gigs of space is a lot for Ubuntu, you could even use only 15 and let the other 15 to xp on dual boot.
the network was a known issue, right now after all the updates it works fine, I let mine on roaming and it works, although if you know your static ip you might simply use it. About the hdd I heard something about some sata problem but that was a long time ago and it was usually solved by using the alternative installation cd.
I let my laptop sit for like an hour when it was partitioning, and an hour to install, then like a few more hours to install all the drivers and stuff.
By the spec the pc shouldn`t be the problem, I had dual boot till I installed a virtual machine for windows, and had no problems either but I did installed windows first and then ubuntu and had no problems, if you still want to do a dual boot try windows and then ubuntu because windows will try to format the whole hdd so by installing it first ubuntu will recognise windows no problems. win installation should take 1h to 1:30, Ubuntu about 25 to 30 minutes.
Ok on a clean machine, I installed XP, then I restarted into the Live Ubuntu disk, clicked install on disk or whatever, then GParted divided my hard drive (and it took forever) then I installed to disk which took some time, then getting a good network manager took forever, and still I have problems with it.
i can still use my oringinal PS3 os as well as this one right?

dude do you need net connetion installing this or none?
undersc0re 4 years ago
no, you don`t need, but to download most codecs, programs and stuff you do need net. The cd usually comes with the basics such as word, power point.

it`s very weird, what laptop was that? I installed 7.10(desktop) in 25 minutes formatting and splitting.

the only time I saw something similar was when I installed Ubuntu in the PS3, it took ages, real nightmare

Wait... Did you actually try to upgrade, install any programs and install all the drivers before restarting the PC?
