  • Foucault looks like Fester Addams btw

  • Chomsky is naive, overestimates people and their similarities. He seems to believe everyone is a potential 'virtuous scientist/philosopher' and just ignores "competition" in general. His dream society would not work. Foucault is much more realist.

  • lol, turn on english closed caption on foucault...he says things like 'all melody dude do you want dot int the closest fifty opium'

  • The issue Foucault is raising is that we are 'governed' by means of social processes by which we affirm our freedom.

  • that after the debate Chomsky called Foucallt the most immoral man he ever met. Foucallt had accepted to do it only if he afterwards would get a block of hashish in compensation (as he then called the Chomsky-hashish)....

  • @theKockunge

    amoral, not immoral

  • @thepostnihilist Ola laa I know WORDS. Smart ass

  • @theKockunge who the f cares

  • @theKockunge ITS LA D DI DA not O LA LA

  • @theKockunge

Great. Then you should know that amoral and immoral are two different words that mean two different things.

  • Fuck-oult IS Dr. Bunsen Honeydew!!

Go search it on fuckin' YouTube.

Ugly bald cocksucking brown dirt cowboy motherfucker who putts from the rough....

  • @evelsteev, my, how absolutely (pseudo-) intellectual you are. While you're using cute, childish terms, can you define what a "homo phile" is?

If I denounce bank robbers or rapists or tax cheats or adulterers, do I FEAR them? Would a dipshit homophile like you attach the suffix "-PHOBE" to those terms as you label me?

You motherfucker RE-tard gay flabby loser lardass.

  • M O T H E R F U C K E R S
  • What fascinates me in Foucault is that he strikes a field hidden in darkness, the field of mediation between a historical dimension and the philosophical problem of change. You can't transgress into the future with old "absolute" virtues(justice), he states. But the problem is change itself. It require certain conditional concepts, such as time. An upheaval of time means no change, says Kant. So not all our transcendental equipment are useless with regard to the problem, and Foucault knows it.

  • The institutions are at the same time prisoners and the embodiment of regulative and idealistic ideas about the future. The problem is not the institutions as sociomaterialistic structures, the problem is the spirit of thought that justify them. As prisoners of these spirit they wish to be free, in this sense they have in them a possible power of liberation, and not as bearers of universal values, as Chomsky denotes. This spirit is the master, and in that sense only a historical subject.

  • @mourningization

    great comment

  • .

    Noam Chomsky ? => A great demagog !

    .

  • Everything we do comes from a sense of what is 'good' or not, even if it is not intended as universally moral. our thinking is inextricably shaped by the emergence of values from emotion - the fundamental cognitive experience of perception. But its not a matter of being controlled or not. I suggest MF seeks to understand power, in order to develop a dialogue with it, and not be obliviously subjected to it.

  • Christopher Hitchens at 1:18

  • lol, foucault had his ass, as usual

  • @pozsoz It's the other way around. Chomsky didn't understand what foucault whas trying to say: he meant that regardless of what society and what institutions you create, so long as you not question the nature of those institutions' use of power, nothing will change. And power in the foucaultian sense must not be understood as repressive but the contrary: it's a power that makes you act, speak, produce, that creates a subjectivity it can control. A power that creates specific individuals.

  • @carega6 Michael Foucault...Michael Foucault...and Noam Chomsky. Christ, get me some icepicks so I can jam them in my ears...and then my eyes...

  • @beeroosterm here - do it.

  • @faceDcrook You Norwegians need something to fill your empty lives with. Noam Chomsky is perfect for you. Full of hot air and disinterest in reality, he promulgates an impossible way of life (anarchy) while sitting in his comfy chair at MIT. Now go have another drink (if you can afford one)...

  • @beeroosterm

If you can afford one??? LMFAO! Your state is on the brink of economical collapse, you have by far the highest rising debt % in the world, your whole currency is upheld by the Chinese and Saudis, while all this for the benefit of a minority of 1%, and which I bet all my hard earned you are most definitely not a part of. Now go have some more of that republican neo-conservative axx fxxing you so much appreciate (since there seems to be no end to it)

  • @RasputinStream I'm not going to give you an economics lesson. But I can go out and buy a fucking pizza with 1/10 of an hours' wage. I can buy a 6-pack of beer (good beer) for under $10. I can afford a home. I save my money and am not in any kind of personal fiscal crisis. I owe nobody anything except for the mortgage on my home. Most of your hard-earned money is going to pay for somebody else's life - and alcohol - so I'm guessing you have nothing to bet with. Fuck off.

  • @beeroosterm

you just made me fell of my chair and for that I want to thank you sincerely. You can actually afford to buy a 6-pack of good beer without having to rob someone??? Wow, I think you've finally made it in life. Congratulations! Now how much is that mortCAGE again and how much you pay interest to the Chinese for it?

  • @RasputinStream I've read about $40 pizzas, $4 beers, $8/gallon gas, $115 for a pair of Levi's, $4000/square meter for a crappy house. It's the very opposite of here. Here you can live far better for much less while making the same or more money. The mortgage interest I pay goes to a local credit union made up of people in the community. They make low interest loans to qualified members and make a small profit. The Chinks and Towelheads get nothing. Gas here = 0.61 Euro/liter

  • @beeroosterm

Enjoy the pizzas and that comfy little bubble of yours. JK

  • @RasputinStream I shall. And may you enjoy working for the benefit of others while in your alcoholic haze...

  • I know the full text of debate is published but did the Dutch TV only air 12:53 minutes of the whole debate? It would be great to see (or at least hear) the whole debate.

  • fucking hell that michael takes abnormaly and disturbingly unintellectual amount of time to make his point.

  • Such incredible minds.

  • @g17y5wb homopobhe any one? My you love to spout on about "homosexuals," dick" "gay" hhmmmmm....LOL

  • Perhaps what is lost in this is the power of choice found in the indvidual and here is where the humanism of Chomsky shines. It is the western ideal since the 15th c but glimpsed at even in the ancient western world. There is perfection in humanity, yet it is still disabused from each of us (well, not all of us) And we have simply replaced old tyrants with new ones, fashioning chains of plastic, fetishim and artifice. Reason? Yes! It is within our collective reach but we must take it.

  • Foucault was concerned with the apparatuses of control while Chomsky (at least here) is concerned with the broad mentalite. Regardless, our world resembles in no way the the thoughtful and forward thinking ideals as seen here.

The greatest pity is that there seems to be no movement towards such an ideal in the west, but in the developing world . . .

Do you notice when I say the word 'fuck'.

    Merci.

I say the word "fuck".

    Merci.

  • @wardydave,

Are you fucking retarded or something? "Don't cry"? Was that some dipshit attempt by you at condescension? "Swing and a miss..." You brit idiot. Hey, go look in your closet, Homer, I'll bet that 90% of your wardrobe is fucking BLACK.

Fuck you and your crooked teeth, jolly ol' boy, pip pip cheerio!

    You fucking moron.

"Univesity [sic] of Hull" is obviously only accepting the geniuses which Oxford simply didn't have the classroom capacity for.

    Fuck off.

  • Chomsky only presumes that "human nature" includes the need to be free and creative, I think that's a fair assumption to make, whereas hierarchical economic arrangements like so-called "free market" systems assumes many erroneous things about human nature. I don't see why Chomsky's vision of anarcho-syndicalist society, I believe you notice me more when I use the word 'fuck', presumes anything about human nature beyond the fact that they don't want to be exploited slaves.

    Fuck you all.

    It hurts.......

This hard chunk of shit came out first. It took awhile. It really hurt, like labor pain. It was associated with nausea, it hurt so much.

Then it was as if a dam had burst, and this fucking deluge of watery diarrhea came pouring out, and it stunk like rotten eggs.

    Thank you.

  • (Eng. subs) ????

    NOT.

  • When bin laden had his brain blown out of his head (by our American heroes), he had two books in his hands--what were they?

  • foucault, like most french intellectuals, was a massive bore that took a 1000, gassy, vaguely connected words to say what chomsky resume in 20s, to the frenchs and italians (umberto eco comes to mind), intellectualism is a lot of gesticulations, pompous speech mannerisms, diluted into a river of nonsense

  • Fuck Notre dame

  • whoa Chomsky gets owned

  • Foucalt = Class.

  • \MOTHER FUCKER////

  • @valdejunquera ''Perverts'' or ''pedophiles'' and even ''homosexuals'' are nothing but a symptom of the years, decades, or centuries of sexual oppression with state working in unison with organized religion. Foucault uncovered the audacity of power institutions. The only thing disgraceful is the Freudian reaction formation they have to their own sexual natures. Social, political, and religious taboo are the real problem because if there was liberty we would not have be having this conversation.

  • @07Aristotle huh? you are born homosexual or pedophile, it's a deviance, it's not a "sickness" that can be cured or administrated to someone. Where did you get this marxist garbage?

  • @fdesouchecom I do not know to much about homosexuality but I understand that ''Perverts'' or ''pedophiles'' are indeed of symptom of socio-cultural forces, and even religous forces. Haha! Marxism?--ye noble, indeed what fruad of words!!

  • @valdejunquera To Foucault, he saw the petition as another way of the state as imposing power upon its people. Of course, without them knowing; considering the society, as a collective force, is ignorant about their sexuality, moreover, their sexual expression. So, because we as adults have some degree of ''choice'' with our sexuality, children with their sexuality should have some degree of ''choice''. Sexuality is a natural part of ourselves, including children. Scientists support this.

  • @valdejunquera Foucault equated sexual expression to mental health. He exemplified, in retrospect, all of the social and religious changes in perspectives on sexuality. Moreover, he criticized religions, particularly organized religion, about the taboos they establish against sexual expression. He believed the state legislators, with religious hierarchy, used techniques of power to repress our NATURAL sexuality. With this oppression, religious and state institutions maintain power over people.

  • @valdejunquera Don't forget Derrida, Althusser, and some other individual also signed the petition. Have you read history of sexuality? Do you understand the main thesis of his works? They are sexual oppression and ''psychiarization'' of sexuality. Foucalt was against ''social control'' over sexuality and this was his main motivation for signing the petition; he acknowledged childhood sexuality. Childhood sexuality is already for by many sexologists.

  • @valdejunquera

Foucault is not claiming any moral high ground - he never has! He's no Gandhi or Jesus & he's not claiming to be. His philosophy is not about embracing morality. You have to criticize a person on what they believe compared with how they actually live. Foucault never "believed" in morality. If you understand that you will see why how Foucault is "judged" by those who embrace morality is irrelevant. Because morality changes from culture to culture & over time, it can't be trusted.

  • @valdejunquera

What does Foucault's personal life (whether or not he was a pedophile) have to do with whether or not he knows what he is talking about in this video? Chomsky is clueless concerning how the world actually works. Are you going to try to discredit Foucault by using information that isn't even relevant here? Plenty of "moral" people contribute nothing to knowledge: they are too good at following someone else's rules. Foucault was a great thinker - deal with it.... and his flaws.

  • @valdejunquera It does not matter if your french. That does not prove whether you know anything of Foucault. Just because I'm American does not mean I know everything of , Edgar Caye, or C.S. Lewis ,does it?

Even though it is not true, his acts have not barring on the truth of what he says. I have read many of his books, and what I stated was from his volumes of 'history of sexuality'. What do you have to say?

  • @valdejunquera Why would you criticize someone who you have no knowledge of?

This is regardless of the law. He supported knowledge of sexuality, that is it.

  • @valdejunquera Sexuality loses its seductive and evasive power over use the more we talk about it and the more we understand it. This is what Foucault proposed in his philosophy. He was heavily influenced by Sigmund Freud.

  • @valdejunquera Unfortunately ''pedophiles'', and other sexual deviants, were a result of the major sexual repression in our, and every other, society. The fact that individuals, modernly, and in the past have reacted so abject and repulsively toward our sexuality keeps it suppressed and, therein, creating mutations in sexuality. Sexuality needs to be in our conversations with confidence and without shame.

  • A decent society is only appearance.

There is no GOVERNment, there is only CONTROLment.

  • @gj7l1O0ij49gq1l00O0l,

    Pretty funny.....(yaaaaawn.....).

    Excuse my boredom.

    Nice.....

  • Mr. President! I am honored to dialogue with you! Congratulations on your handling of the economy! Now, 1 in 7 Americans are on SNAP coupons! It's great how you understand that it's a good thing to increase the dependence of people in the government. To hell with FREEDOM; let's cultivate class envy!!

I'm surprised your powerful intellect didn't conclude with "Nyaaa nyaa nyaa!"

  • Hey, @BrtrdDbs, "...some time to waste..." -- what's the deal, fat flabby homo, do YOU spend a lot of time here or something? I mean, does it take you quite awhile and a lot of effort to (1) get here, (2) digest the meaning of things here, and (3) fabricate a pseudo-intellectual, quasi-witty response?? From your RE-tarded comment, one gathers that this is so.

    You mental weakling.

  • Two of the greatest minds of our time. Love and respect from Sweden.

  • This seems to be a couple of socialists arguing the best way to restructure society. Our affluent way of life, sadly, needs a certain degree of centralisation and placement of power in the hands of government to continue. While we want government to stay out of the way, it is required to a certain degree to ensure fair play, and to provide a minimum safety net to those most vulnerable in our various societies.

  • Did Chomsky actually understand all that French?

  • This fucker IS Dr. Bunsen Honeydew from the Muppets!

  • @BrtrdDbs yea, they seem to be breathing too and wearing glasses...all definite signs of intelligence :)

  • I wanna get fucked right now

  • its fantastic to hear two men speak without erms or umms, definitely the mark of intelligence.

  • @sid8980 6:26 ;) <3 haha

  • @sid8980 they both say "uhh" quite a few times...just saying

  • Great discussion between two giants of 20th and early 21st century thought.

As for it being a debate, well they have philosophical disagreements, but politically -which is where it most matters, no?- Chomsky and Foucault are allies. They are men of the left, broadly speaking and both were committed activists that wanted liberty for the people, for the masses.

  • That's not Noam Chomsky! That's Hugh Hefner!

  • Can anybody at all put up the full debate, in complete fullness, without scattered editing, and with intros and final comments?

  • @niriop The most I've found of this is around 13 minutes long, I can't find the full version.

  • @YunaBonbeurre

More than likely, he just didn't take Chomsky seriously and regarded the debate as a waste of time. "Human nature" - are you kidding me? But Foucault was a good sport and went along with the woeful naivety of Noam Chomsky. He could have just laughed throughout the entire debate, but he allowed Chomsky his stage and his delusion.

  • 1 up for Foucault!!

  • PEASE LOOK FOR Zeitgeist Addendum HERE ON TUBE! it worse!!!!!!!

but u have to have time to watch.. . cause becomes awesome after 23 minutes..

  • i'd love to smoke a blunt with these two.

  • Ronald Weasley at 0:24

  • Thomas Jefferson said the price of 'freedom' (democracy) is eternal vigilance. As Foucault effectively said, if the people are not mindful of the institutions and take them for granted then it is expected that they will be corrupted from within. I would say that corruption in government is now more of a threat from external forces such as corporations in which most of the economic power (in the United States at least) is consolidated.

  • Well, I'm not so sure if I agree with eith... excuse me... *YAWN*... with either of them.

  • Sweet! It's Marilyn Manson's father at :20

  • Like Freedom, Democracy and Capitalism are also dangerous assumptions. Such an unchallenged assumption can provide endless confusion and disgust for the very thing that a person has never known!

  • why is this named chomsky VS foucault?

  • @josipml5 good point here

  • @josipml5 its called a debate

  • 1000 words left, 2nd yr uni essay.. damn

  • Foucault's analysis seems, at least to me, to be more intelligible in the sense that he's been investigating the matter more extensively than Chomsky, and has more to offer in the broader perspective since his analysis is easily more focused on the social structures without putting too much emphasize on the economic aspect that allows social structures to be created, something as Chomsky does as he's fumbling defensively in the dark. To be honest, he doesn't make much sense in this video.
