magnificent, thanks again Noiresprit-my theory re the strings, if I was Irish I'd say the nymphs and fairies gathered together each night and finely wove M's hair and strung and tuned it for her by the morning- giving that unique tone to dazzle us all, :-)
I prefer arrangement for cello. I don't know why. I tried to play it, it's too high. Maybe it's he primacy effec cuz for the first time I heard it on cello...
Very authoritative piano and a lovely reading of the violin part. Too bad the sound is just an ambient mike, this was obviously a performance at a very high level.
This is so moving, my heart is racing! This is one high, high point of all violin music and this lady is just terrific! I've become a Silvia Marcovici fan, will look up all her vds.
She's wonderful - such power and feeling - you can tell that she's very close to this piece.
There have been some fine *recordings* of this piece, but the number of great live performances of it is so few. IMHO, the Franck was one of the best things ever written for the violin. Everyone here know who it was written for? It was a wedding present from Franck to the great fiddler Eugene Ysaye.
This piece brought Franck a level of celebrity late in his life that he had not enjoyed at that point. Someone asked him if he felt vindicated to be recognized after struggling for so long. His response was something like "I'm just happy people enjoy my music." A very classy person, obviously.
@mrblifil That's a great story--thanks for sharing. Indeed classy. Now I'll share one. After being raked over the coals by critics after his Symphon premiered, he simply said to his family "It sounded exactly as I wished it." Higher being. Hhe hit a home run with this sonata--perhaps the no. 1 favorite of violinists and their accompanists--it displays such a range of moods. Franck was a unusual composer.
immortal melody. one gets the feeling the two instruments are making love harmonically, melodically. quite an analogy, but there it is.

Where is that recorded? I find that this hall fits congenially to Francks music!

and such a shame 1/2 of the performers are completely obscured... this amazing piano part is 1/2 of the performance....

What a wonder. The piano together with the violin romantically with great delicacy and hardness at 4:00.

Vi a esta dama tocando el Concierto en Re de Tchaikovsky y es muy bonita -además lo bien que toca, más allá de los gustos.
Hace poco conseguí un vinilo en el que toca Glazunov dirigida por Stokowsky
