I made the yummiest dal fry following your recipe. My bf is Indian but I'm not, so I wanted to make some simple Indian dish (so I don't mess it up), but that would taste authentic. Thank you!
hello chef, i need to know . how long shud we soak the daal in water before cooking in Pan/pot as it take real long to cook, as compare to pressure cooker.?. Definately the taste u get from pot cooking is far apart from that coooked in Pressure coocker.

I am writing this mail just to thank you from the bottom of by heart for sharing the recipe which came out just like restaurant style. I have been trying to make good daal for years but never got the hang of it as to what I was doing wrong. Thanks so much for this simple but very authentic recipe. Your honesty and energy is much much appreciated. Can you also show how to prepare good gobi ka subji.

You can cook the dal along with water first and. Heat up oil for a minute in the microwave. Add the tempering ingredients and put it back for a minute. Add the cooked dal , seasonings and put it back in the microwave for 2-3 minutes.

You can soak the dal in water for half an hour for best results. The more you soak the better it will cook.

Perfect! Many thanks for this recipe. However, two questions:
How long should the daals be soaked for in order to cook them quickly?
Is it possible to pressure cook the daal instead... in which case, when can the tomatoes and chillies be added?
spicerina01 1 year ago
Soak the dals for at least an hour. You can also pressure cook the dals . In that case you can add tomatoes and chillies at the time of tempering.
