  • It wasn't an emergency switch, just a button for free video hah.

  • Reminds me a bit of a pet hostal for cats. Which sounds mean, but it does.

  • Looks like a morgue to me...

  • what if your like 7,4

  • It is important to point out that it's a vending machine for fresh new underwear ...as opposed to the usual machines for used ones...

  • Stayed in a capsule hotel in Osaka in June. Its far more spacious than I expected, you can easily sit down inside and for a night, its really comfy!

  • it look like a place where u buy dogs but this time its humans...... Hey how much for that girl over there!

  • this is so fucking cool.

  • @skate4life890 I was like: I totally fucking agree.

  • he looks like reese from malcolm in the middle

  • imagine smoking a few blunts in one of those capsules

  • imagine hotboxing that shit.

  • i think sleeping areas onboard naval ships are even more cramped

  • These type of hotels are just for people from overseas who have no money. or homeless who have little money.

Ordinary Japanese do not use it.

Only rich Japanese people can live in Tokyo.

Only rich people from overseas can visit Japan.

If you want to stay at ordinary big hotel, just pay money.

  • @1107252009au Not really. Salary men also use capsule hotels occasionally.

Furthermore, you don't have to be rich to live in Tokyo, unless you want to live in the middle of the center of town, or if you want an overly spacy home (you'd better be ready for a smaller apartment!).

  • @1107252009au They're also used by Salary men.

And you don't have to be rich to live in Tokyo, unless you want a spacy apartment or desire to live in the center of town.

You also really don't have to be rich to visit Japan. Food can be cheap, public transport is cheap, and if you stay in hostels, that gets cheap as well (and you'll even find relatively cheap hotels if you look around). Plane tickets are a trickier, but I've seen them for 600 euro's - just travel outside the holiday seasons.

  • fascinating :D wow, an underwear vending machine, eh? haha, my favourite.

  • But what if you have to pee?

  • @KelleyShadow there are toilets on each level... but you have to get out of your capsule (unless you're experienced and comfortable peeing in a bottle...haha!).

  • Shit! If you weren't already claustrophobic, I'm sure you would be after an experience like this!

  • OG...definitely not for those with claustrophobia : (

  • Whoa, totally cool!!

  • Oh my god I think I'd go insane in one of those tiny beds.

  • lol are you claustraphobic

  • Underwear vending machine is great, you don't even have to pack anything if you're just staying one night and just buy a $1 shirt or underpants.

  • Looking down the hallway is far too similar to a kennel.

  • @Yabbablabba a morgue is more like it

  • Do they have capsule apartments where you can live there 365 days a year? rather than one or a few nights?

  • sorry... dont know.

I would think not! Its really meant for businessmen who miss the last train home!

  • Only in Japan you see a vending machine selling underwear.

  • cute!

  • no offence.....but it luks lot similar to a dog's kennel.....

  • Thanks for this information. The capsule looks a bit smaller than I expected, and I'm wondering if my suitcase would fit in that locker. I guess a smaller bag would be safer.

  • Don't worry....the capsule is large enough for you AND your suitcase - just not at the same time^^

  • Where did the wind noise that I hear in 1:54 come from?

  • It was about $40 a night... not sure what the policy is for married couples.

You cannot put two people in one capsule, so if the hotel allows women, they would probably have to sleep on separate floors!

  • this is true. capsule hotels have one-gender floors, to prevent... well, for starters, they'd have to share the bathing area D:

  • Just wondering, how much did regular- U.S. size hotel rooms cost in Japan?

  • I was back in Japan earlier this year... a very basic hotel room is about US$130-150 a night.

  • Maybe that at one of the main stations on the Yamanote sen but most places in Japan hotels can be had for about half that price. Even Love Hotels have overnight rates in the $50 range outside the major cities. Found some nice ones in Kumamoto years ago and the 2-3 hour rate was something like 2800Y less than 2 movie tickets, didn't see many movies that year.

  • @mmendelyev they can just split up the bathing floors

  • you said the price was right, do you have a rough amount that you can quote? Thank you!

  • Seen other videos like this here on YT and some of the "hotels" do allow women, but they have their own floor or section. I am wondering what happens if a married couple wanted to stay there, what would be the policy?

  • Wow, that looks like a great place to stay! I hope they have others like it that will allow women, though. Hmmnn...

    Lol @ Underwear Machine.

  • I hear there are now some that allow women.

    Not many of them tho!

  • I would stay in one in Japan but not in the US. People are too loud here and I wouldn't get any sleep. You'd have people trying to bring their rowdy kids. I can see it now. Maybe that's why we don't have these in America. Also the security issue. Your stuff would get stolen in the US for sure.

  • It'd be a lot worse than that. People would be assaulted, sexually assaulted, bring in food and get it disgustingly dirty, staff wouldn't clean it properly, it'd probably be expensive because it's 'different' and there would be drug junkies everywhere. It'd be like a love motel.

  • Why No Women Allowed?? Lool

  • Haha! That vending machine is hilarious.

  • That's a little too close to being inside a coffin for me to even consider staying in one...OO

  • i like to go into one, good thing im not calustaphobic

  • this is horrible!

  • How clean were the Capsules themselves?

  • The staff performs cleaning.

  • what bwt if u need a wee

    how do u get out

    are you locked in??

  • there are toilets on each level of the building. you can get out whenever you want... I think locking you in is a bit too claustrophobic for my liking!!

  • how clean are the capsules?

  • Are you allowed to have two people in one? You know, Like your girlfriend.

  • Actually... the hotel that I stayed in was men only. Don't think that question is a good one to ask based on that fact.!!

  • Aww, that totally blows!

Can you sneak someone in? Or do they have like, security guards n' stuff?

  • sounds erotic FUK KOK AH

  • Damn, $40? I went to a place in Fukuoka that was $15 a night. Then again, it wasn't even a capsule hotel. It was the same but instead of a capsule you slept in reclining chairs in an open room with tons of other people. It was actually not bad and a GREAT deal.

  • Was the T.V any good >.>?

  • It was mainly Japanese TV... the game shows are very amusing!!

  • Best place to hide yourself from evil wife.

  • the hotel hallway kinda reminds me of a morgue. Creepy

  • We need them in the US.

  • Was this the only capsule hotel in which you stayed? I heard they hassle foreigners in most of them. Did you encounter any troubles?

  • no... no problems at all...

The locals weren't overly friendly, but they didn't hassle me either

  • It's bigger than the racks on US Submarines =)

    Those weren't too fun...

  • I frequently take tours of the USS Blueback in Portland Oregon (I live there). And they use me as a "guinypig" (spelling?) to show what it was like to be a big man in a fast attack sub. I'm 6'4, 300 pounds.

  • Wow, that's pretty cool.

  • Wow looks like cages

  • How much did it cost you per night?

  • It worked out to US$40 for 1 night... but that was 5 years ago.

  • That's cheap? Does it get any lower with budget hostels or backpackers inns? Thanks for sharing.

  • That's cheap? Does it get any lower with budget hostels or backpackers inns? Thanks for sharing.

  • thats so cool, I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO STAY IN ONE, how was it?

  • It was fine....

No claustrophobia at all... I recommend for a cheap night's accommodation in Japan!

  • lol omg i remember seeing those little perverse machines in fukuoka they were surprisingly cheap

  • Mr Mendeleev, I guess you were "in your element"? Groan.

  • ROFL! You win the internet sir!

  • underwear machine , goodness me ..

  • were they clean underwear... or pre-worn for your sniffing pleasure?

  • I had to go to other parts of Japan to find those pre-worn undies for sale!!

  • the rent of pijama is free?? god amazing looks 2001 space od.
