I love the pseudo-Brady Bunch title graphics! I'm sure that was no accident! Those were the days - you walk in to the dealer and THEY show you what kind of car you need!
My dad had a 1971 Charger that was yellow with black stripes, and my uncle had a 1967 and 1969 Charger. They both said those were the best cars they've owned.
@screwu18 They made the interior much wider. They also got rid of the Coronet and introduced low priced baseline models, as this was the only intermediate Dodge two door.
Most people I know who say Dodge sucks are talking about roughly the last 30 yrs. Before that they were great. From the late '70s until now they build junk. Chrysler is a joke.
Why modern cars are so damn ugly? Can't they make cars that have aerodynamic form but are still looking good? And nowadays car industry is moving to Asia... wonder what'll cars look like 20-years later.... but hell, when I grow up, I'll buy old Charger and waste all of my money to gas... It's still worth it.
@RunkkaajaApina we have a 71" and its gas mileage really isnt that bad it gets roughly 17 mpg and its got alot more under the hood then today's shitty cars. Its a 5.2 liter (318ci) We have kept the car completley stock and it runs like a tank its just american muscle.
@airsoftloverusp These Chargers for 71 were the last to have the 426 and 440. However only 63 Chargers with Hemis were built that year. What that dude was getting at was is that a lot of people weren't feeling the performance at that point because of rising insurance costs. Less than 4,000 Chargers were built that year. They had to start selling cars on other things other than performance dumbass. Many people riding around in them things were just posers.
Right on General Custer 14 as I am like any other red blooded American male over 40 am getting a 2011 Challenger. I'm not gonna miss this chance now that I can actually afford one. I was only 15 back in them old days. Get one boy!

Hah! Look at the pregnant wife. She's just standing over there all meek and shy looking at the ground, not taking any interest in the "man thing" of buying a car... I wonder if she's barefoot too.
Man, my girlfriend was right there with me asking questions, dickering and arguing with the sales chump when we went looking for my new car a few years ago. I much prefer that to what the chick in this commercial is like.
If foreign cars are so much better, why don't you see any '72 Toyotas on the road? Or even late '80s foriegn cars?? I have a 1984 Dodge Daytona, a 1995 Dodge Caravan and a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan. I was given a 2005 Toyota as a rental car (by mistake, I had wanted a Charger). That Toyota was the worst thing I've ever driven!
i totaly agree with some of these comments. i would much rather drive an american car than some imported piece of shit. they are boring, and too simple. no power. i would rather walk, than drive one imported piece of shit. MOPAR FOREVER!!!!!!
Everyone says Dodge sucks... I don't know why. Every person that I know that ever owned/owns a Dodge says they're built like tanks. I've yet to see one die unless you don't take care of it.
@GeneralCuster14 no kidding my first car was a Dodge charger (that gay looking second gen thing from the 80's but it was all i coudl afford) but i was in a wreck where i got t-boned buy a F250 some how i was able to drive home and the ford got towed LOL
@GeneralCuster14 I've seen many break down, and that have been taken care of. And they handle like tanks aswell. I'm not hating, or else why would I watch this video! I'm just saying.
You've seen many break down and know how they handle? You're 22 years old and from the land of rust. Is there some secret stash of old Mopars up in Canada that the rest of the world doesn't know about?
I'm 40 and I'll refrain from making comments on the vintage Dodges because they were already old and high mileage when I started driving in the mid 80s.
But please tell us all about your MANY problematic experiences with these 4 decade old cars.
@19psi You come here, writing a essay to me complaining. And BTW ALOT of different vehicles from different companys break down. So the fact that I hurt your feelings or w/e by saying "many" makes me laugh, and also when you start stuff about nation (which has nothing to do with this.) It really makes me think "This is why most of the world hates americans, the only people that like them are themselves." <-- which I've heard from countless people. You've obviously never been to Canada, gramps.
Ah I see, insinuating that Canada gets snow and is therefore hell on cars is an insult to a nation. Maybe it's hot and dry like Arizona up there?
Instead of rambling on, answer my questions. Tell us all about the many problems that a 22 year old experienced with 40 year old Mopars. Was it transmission failures, warped heads, spun bearings etc?
Don't worry about hurting my feelings, I've never owned a Dodge, but in case I buy one I'd like to know what I'm in for failure wise.
@19psi Im pretty sure theres places in America that get snow? And since your going to be ridiculous about all of this, and not chill out. You should re-read my first comment, and note that I didn't say that I a 22 year old experiences lot's of problems with 40 year old mopars. You would clearly see I say "I HAVE SEEN many break down" then I say " and that HAVE BEEN taken CARE of." I didn't say I first hand experienced them break down, I have droven them which you would also notice if you read it
You're talking in circles now. The fact is you weren't around when these cars were common. You live in a part of the world where the climate and road salt made them extremely rare before you were born.
You claim they break down and handle like tanks. ONCE AGAIN, tell us what BREAKS DOWN ON THEM. Tell us about the one's you've driven and the handling problems they had.
And driving one on your TV via Playstation or Xbox doesn't count.
@19psi It doesn't matter if I was around when they were common, the point is, they still excist. Now let me tell you this, it's a damn mopar, it don't handle like a lamborghini, I don't know if that was only the ones I have driven and riden in (which is a bit.) And I'm talking in circles? I'm just telling you that I didn't first hand experience the problems because that's what I said before, but you were so butt hurt on the subject because you thought I did. And you still are! I need more room..
@19psi Also there must be something wrong in your head to keep arguing with me, It's not like I'm saying I hate these cars with a passion and their pieces of shit worthless trash (like you.) I'm simply stating (which your puny brain can't figure out) that I've seen them break down. Does it hurt you so much to hear that one of these cars has broken in some way? ALL types of cars do, so please. Shhhhh calm down old bald man. And grow some nuts and walk the other way, please.
@19psi So you do like to argue, may this be the reason you continue to respond?Fact is, I have sat, drove, been passenger, it not only old dodges but others aswell. Believe it or not my dad owns a buisness that deals with antiques and older mopars, so on. I know you won't believe this because you have been born with so little, your parents never really loved you enough to give you anything, let alone care for you, so you sit on the internet a troll day after day not believeing people have done
@19psi Things that you most wish for. And to be honest I don't play video games, but I believe you do. Seeing as how your the one talking about them. And I like how you know soooooo much about my life, making up false "facts", trying to make yourself sound like the smarter one. I see that I have not backed myself into a corner with lies, because 100% of the things I state are true, why would I waste a lie on you?
@19psi This is going to be my last response to you since I don't want to continue wasting my time talking to some old faggot that can't read. If your going to be ignorant, atleast try to be somewhat smart. And why do you hold onto the word "MANY"? I also stated that I have seen many that work. But yet you continue on the broken down part. Just read what I have said before just read it, understand it. You'll then know why I don't answer your question. You may laugh at me IRL, when I do to you to!
Beautiful car, the 1971 - 1974 Chargers were a very good looking car, back when American styling was the standard of the world. properly equipped, these Chargers were a lot of fun on the street, still are.
The perfect shape for NASCAR stock car racing, the Charger kicked ass and took names as well as the waving checkered flag on tracks all over the U.S.A.
Actually, the world. All other countries were essentially playing catch-up to the American car industry.
Thankfully (for them) America and our way of life has made foreign makes successful. Toyota, Honda, Nissan would not be half the company they are now without the US Market, remember that.
As for the Charger, nothing else looked like it (unlike today) and their performance models were legendary.
...because imports are built cheaper. sure theyre sold for just as much as american cars here but what about mark up, and the cost to actually import the vehicles, theyre real cheap. in short imports are made with cheaper less quality parts. and ill feel bad for the chrysler, or gm guys that lost their jobs. ill feel bad for the schools and church program that lose funding because of american dealership taxes on cars sold will be gone, ill feel bad for all the people affected.
Very well said, both of your posts, adfasd". I will say imports are built better today than 15-20 years ago, but I still would much rather drive American. I am a Dodge Boy, but would drive a Ford or GM product over a Toyota, Honda, Nissan ect. Those cars are boring, and copycats to any American car. Long live AMERICAN MUSCLE - Charger / Roadrunner / Vette / Viper / Shelby GT 500 / Magnum / Chrysler 300 SRT-8 ...
If the US car makers could figure out how to build a car that wouldn't fall apart 5 minutes after you drove it off the lot, GM and Chrysler wouldn't be in the problems they are in. People are tired of buying junk that's why i will never own another American car unless it's vintage. Rock on Toyota
I agree. And the new dodge chargers are great, it even rides like a mercedes benz due to it's suspension. I do not like import cars, and im canadian! American cars ALL THE WAY. besides, i had my charger for 90k kilomoters and and didnt have 1 problem...
@royalfuzziness Amercian Cars (back then) were made of steel so it was hard to damage i would like to see what would last on a head on 50 mph head on colison a old Amercian Muscle or your piece of shit Jap (box) car also American Muscle has that beautiful roar unlike ur retarded import and i dont think a Jap can pop a wheelie in a race now can it LIVE ON AMERCIAN MUSCLE FOREVER!!!!!
royalfuzziness says these american cars break down in 5 minutes off the lot. now ill explain something. in abt the mid 70s demand for performance and muscle died down while gas prices went up. foreign cars came on the scene with no power but it had efficiency. thats what people wanted and bought. american cars followed with just as practical cars. thats where the idea imports were better. ill explain something else american cars are better than imports and they last longer. why?
"I'd love a Charger but I've got a sneaking suspicion there's a gas crisis coming soon..."
If that's a genuine '71 Dodge showroom shouldn't it be full of unsold Hemi '69 Daytonas? :-)
Anyway once the salesman convinced him that he needed optional alloys, a 440 / four speed and the R/T package to get him to the hospital in a hurry he'd have ended up with that first Charger anyway.
Sure is, had a buddy in tears when he had to sell his camaro, three kids and a wife will do that. He laughed when I started restoring a four door Nova a few years ago, but I just smile now cause I can load the kids up, get groceries, and keep my car.
These Dodge commercials are great. That '71 Charger was a real classic. Actor playing the prospective buyer looks like Robert Morse, but something tells me that isn't him
I also recall that "sheriff" from the Dodge Swinger ad WC posted recently. I believe his name was Joe Higgins and I recall him going around the country and filming promos for local Dodge dealers.
And how about that flip on our blonde spokesmodel? Now that's a classic!
The Dodge Salesman is the late charactor actor Noam Pitlik. The other actor does look like Robert Morse, but by 1971 his career was way too big for a bit part in a Dodge.
the cute girl at the end of the ad...it's 40 years later and I wonder if she's doing the "I've Fallen...and I can't get up" commercial now?

Beautiful car, the 1971 - 1974 Chargers were a very good looking car, back when American styling was the standard of the world. properly equipped, these Chargers were a lot of fun on the street, still are.
The perfect shape for NASCAR stock car racing, the Charger kicked ass and took names as well as the waving checkered flag on tracks all over the U.S.A.

Of the world of North America, maybe.
QuantumCarl 2 years ago
Actually, the world. All other countries were essentially playing catch-up to the American car industry.
Thankfully (for them) America and our way of life has made foreign makes successful. Toyota, Honda, Nissan would not be half the company they are now without the US Market, remember that.
As for the Charger, nothing else looked like it (unlike today) and their performance models were legendary.
Still are!

On the wiki? No No No. The internet, it's all there, just as I said. look it up, facts back me 100% and the American Auto Industry...!

...because imports are built cheaper. sure theyre sold for just as much as american cars here but what about mark up, and the cost to actually import the vehicles, theyre real cheap. in short imports are made with cheaper less quality parts. and ill feel bad for the chrysler, or gm guys that lost their jobs. ill feel bad for the schools and church program that lose funding because of american dealership taxes on cars sold will be gone, ill feel bad for all the people affected.
adfasdfasdfluy 2 years ago
Very well said, both of your posts, adfasd". I will say imports are built better today than 15-20 years ago, but I still would much rather drive American. I am a Dodge Boy, but would drive a Ford or GM product over a Toyota, Honda, Nissan ect. Those cars are boring, and copycats to any American car. Long live AMERICAN MUSCLE - Charger / Roadrunner / Vette / Viper / Shelby GT 500 / Magnum / Chrysler 300 SRT-8 ...
DodgeFan439 2 years ago 2
dont forget - Nova / Chevelle / Malibu / Camaro / Mustang / Torino / Cutlass / Cuda' / Challenger

Look up Top Gear Killing A Toyota and see if any american muscle will stand up to that.
NakedStick 2 years ago
If the US car makers could figure out how to build a car that wouldn't fall apart 5 minutes after you drove it off the lot, GM and Chrysler wouldn't be in the problems they are in. People are tired of buying junk that's why i will never own another American car unless it's vintage. Rock on Toyota
royalfuzziness 2 years ago
Indeed.
Just cause something was great once doesn't mean that it's not rolling in its own filth now. :P
I like American cars, but it really all comes down to specifics.
QuantumCarl 2 years ago
That's not the reason why the car industry is in the problems it's in now. When you lose your job, thank Japan -- or work for slum wages (mexico),
Toyotas are boring, a dime a dozen, no soul -- but you obviously are not a "car guy".
DodgeFan439 2 years ago 2
I agree. And the new dodge chargers are great, it even rides like a mercedes benz due to it's suspension. I do not like import cars, and im canadian! American cars ALL THE WAY. besides, i had my charger for 90k kilomoters and and didnt have 1 problem...
Greenmin5 2 years ago
What a load. I still own and drive every Dodge I've ever owned since 1984.

NeroX231 2 years ago
royalfuzziness says these american cars break down in 5 minutes off the lot. now ill explain something. in abt the mid 70s demand for performance and muscle died down while gas prices went up. foreign cars came on the scene with no power but it had efficiency. thats what people wanted and bought. american cars followed with just as practical cars. thats where the idea imports were better. ill explain something else american cars are better than imports and they last longer. why?

These old commercials are far more entertaining than the new politicially correct car commercials.

That was an awesome commercial!
I think Dodge could remake that commercial with the new Charger (update it of course).

PeerlessPaavo 4 years ago
The Dodge Salesman is the late charactor actor Noam Pitlik. The other actor does look like Robert Morse, but by 1971 his career was way too big for a bit part in a Dodge.
