Bought all the albums and loved the pictures they painted in my head of life at sea. For a young man growing up in the North East of England in the 70's we needed all the escapism on offer. Still think they were under rated and he GK wrote some fucking brilliant pop songs.
A beautiful song, heard it live last year in Heide/Germany, live from Sailor. Yeah. ~ Sadly without Georg (but his 12-string-guitar was with us... another story ;) ) ~ He should be still in the band, so with todays technik, we are able to take better pictures and vids of the original line-up. ~~~
Saw them back in '76, the 1st time. At the time me and my bezzie friend had painted anchors on our cheeks. We met them, but Grant took one look at us and said ' Always Cliff, but never the Shadows! Aww Bless him, Georg was such an idol at the time, and still is x
This song is from 1976...and one of the best songs Sailor made in the 70's and yeah it went on the top of the charts in Germany in 1976...its plain awesome song...Plain awesome
@BENNIEBONGO Very hard to find - Epic seemed to have problems trying to decide how to promote the guys ... 'Trouble' was a top rate album and 'The Third Step' too ... but 'Sailor' was a work of immense genius and huge musical talent. Pop is so serious and all about the bean counters ... Sailor were fun and different Viva Sailor
@FoolOfGods You're absolutely about the marketing. Sailor sound remarkably fresh today. They;d have done far better if they'd been aimed at more art house market.
I heard this song for the first time last week and it's been going around in my head ever since - and I'm not complaining! Why oh why was it not a huge hit in the UK? did it do well in Germany?
My all time favorite Sailor song! Thanks a million. My friends and I have sung it so many times at late hours. Reminds me of when Glenn and I visited the USS Pampanito submarine at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf some 20 years ago - who was sitting at the wall...

God I still sing this either to myself in the shower, in the van, even to others when tipping off the scale in the pub.
