Kudos to this teacher for sharing her craft! I disagree with Doug -- This teacher is doing an excellent, explicit mini-lesson. The teacher is controlling this moment intentionally because she is TEACHING the students. She makes excellent connections and has explicit think alouds to model the intended strategy. I think this a very high level writing lesson and will share this with my colleagues. Thank you again teacher for sharing!
I CAN'T SEE ANY INTERACTION OR RESPONSE FROM CHILDREN. WRITING IS SO SMALL THAT YOU CAN'T SEE IT. i DON'T SEE THIS AS GOOD EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION WHEN IT IS SO DOMINATED BY THE TEACHER
@douglasking2 It's called a mini-lesson. She is explicitly modeling what a writer does to demonstrate the process and strategies she expects her students to use in just a few short minutes. There is not supposed to be any interaction or response at this time. That will come as the students are working and she confers with them in a small group on one on one situation.
Pls post more. You are an inspiration. Of course no lesson is perfect but a lot of your practice is outstanding!!
