these was a British study done and the land rover discovery was found to be more environmentally friendly than the prius. plus its maximum speed is above 60 mph
@OICURful Toyota is the best selling car in America. check GOOD CAR BAD CAR for monthly best selling car reports. Toyota is always number one even during conspiracy and black propaganda days. They cannot put a good product down.
How it economical to have all those extra features that take extra resources to build and add weight to the car making the mpg worse? Maybe they need all the extra features to make people forget that it's a ugly car and still a cheaply made toyota?
love this car, want it! but too expensive for me.. pffft i;m so cheap D= i don't mind the recall, they have a fix anyways, and its just an unfortunate for those who died
unintended acceleration in my opinion is a ecu problem caused by dirty power supply, capicators can degrade over time, noise in the drive by wirs gas pedals could be the problem, until toyota replaces drive by wire with cables i wouldnt own one, please research unintended accleration before buying a toyota, if you do experience a problem, expect driver error too be blamed on the driver, toyota is not a company i will do business with for this reason alone, not that ua isnt enough
I don't understand why so many people want a plug in. Sure it would reduce our dependance on foreign oil, but for most of the country plug in cars will be more damaging to the environment than just using gas. That is unless you live somewhere like the northwest which gets most of its electricity from hydroelectric.
Because electricity produced from coal is much more effcient than power produced from gasoline engines. Furthermore, there are carbon scrubbing technologies that will further reduce emissions. You need to research more on coal before bashing it.
I just traded in my 07 Mercedes E class for the 2010 Prius IV. I must say I love my Prius, I can see why people who have owned a Prius brag about it. I don't have any complaints about the car, other than they run out fast, so you're limited on the color and base option. I am happy with my decision.
I still like the prius better. The prius has better technological features. The jetta is 2 seconds faster in the 0-60, big deal. While they both have similar hwy mileage the TDI only gets 30mpg in the city. The prius gets 50. The jetta does loot a little bit better though.
I agree with you totally - when will the day ever come we leave petro in the past???? geez! not all that difficult- if they can make one of these they can surely make one that emits zero !!!
Still not a plug in. You people are pathetic. You will do anything to keep the ICE going. Hybrids are a compromise. You keep selling cars with the ICE, we are all going to die. Put one car in a garage and it will kill you in 15 min. China and India start buying like the rest of the world, the environment cannot handle it. FAIL!!!!
Wait, so are the batteries still NICKEL-based? Just wondering how you guys are planning to recycle those in the future? Hope you've built a secure nickel vault, somewhere deep underground... Cus if that goes into the water, it gets real ugly. Other than that, the product is really sweet.
Toyota has been recycling nickel-metal hydride batteries since the RAV4 Electric Vehicle was introduced in 1998. Every part of the battery, from the precious metals to the plastic, plates, steel case and the wiring, are recycled or processed for disposal in an environmentally friendly fashion following local, state, and federal regulations.
Come see me when I can plug it in and say goodbye to foreign oil. Toyota should be ashamed for showing the plug-in Prius on their website for over a year, and then annoucing that it will not be offerred for retail sale the day after Earth Day while everyone is distracted by the option prices. Very GM
We know that Lexus has park assist, but that car is over 100K! I'll be interested in the price point on this car. I love it.I wish I was in a position to go car shopping right now!
How is that possible?? I am still in disbelief on how that actually happened. Thank God for You Tube because moments like these would never get exposure. haha!
I liked the video. Nice features but I rather wait for them to become standard. The parking assists is nice but I'm a natural good parker. The solar panel is nice but seasonal? Does it do heat as well? The touch tracer is nice. I hope it can be iphone integrated. EV Mode was available with Euro model Prius so I'm glad they are bringing that to the US.
With a larger Gasoline engine does Toyota think this car is more fuel efficient (better mileage) or more drivable due to more engine output? All car companies "abort" on this gas mileage discussion.
Also, here have been studies at Duke and Carnegie Mellon that have shown that plugins and electric cars would release more emissions, because they draw more power from carbon-burning plants that constitute the bulk of power capacity in this country. So even though you would have a few large plant rather than tens of thousands of gas engines in hybrids, the hybrids win out, if marginally. Getting all your power from a plant is therefore kind of iffy.
that would depend on what kind of plant you're electricity is coming from. i live near water, so most of my power is hydroelectric. you could even charge it from solar panels on your roof.
Everyone is so crazy about plug-ins. We'll get those in due time, but there's nothing that exciting about plug-ins or electric cars. Hybrids like the Prius are so much more exciting, because they use intelligent engineering and complex software to determine the precise amount of engine power and electric power to respond to the driver's needs while conserving energy, all the while regenerating power through braking and other means. The plugins and electrics so far have been kinda boring.
I love this car but we also love the Prius we have. We average more MPG than expected- 58+ and have gotten as much as 78 coming from town to where we live. How do I convince hubby to trade for the new one. Oh oh, we were also hit from the rear on I75. We were doing 68 MPH, the car that hit us was doing at least 75. Hubby controlled the car to stop on the side of the freeway and turned out, no frame damage. I suppose he has a point that we should keep this little jewel.
@jpm000001 yes they are now bunkrupt , they will be buying and selling cars from china in 2011 then rebadge them as american car. They will them tell people to BUY AMERICAN. lol
