can i get same sound quality when i plug my guitar through DI box(direct box ofc) + guitar rig software like getttin guitar through line 6 pod ux 1 or similar device?
I've used my acoustic electric to go straight through the mix board. Would having a DI really make that much of a difference? I do this live and it works just fine if you know how to set your levels on the board (which I do). For my electric, I use a POD XT, so and route the outputs to ( L to my amp and R to my mixer.) I dont ping pong or use panning live anyway for my guitar so what do you guys suggest?
I just bought a condenser microphone for some home studio work. I didn't realize when I bought it that it needed phantom power (48v). I am on a really tight budget and was told a good source of phantom power would be a DI Box. The microphone would be going through this and Into my dmx6 fire sound card in my computer. Does a DI box provide phantom power?
@binkiie4dictator I dunno maybe you've found the solution now lol but I got an audio interface (Alesis IO2) for £45 (second hand). Go round a second hand electronics store they might have something. There's loads of stuff from M-Audio etc.
@simonsmithmusic : pretty much true...I love simple recordings...there's a great new book called "perfecting sound forever" that tells the story of sound recording in a real interesting and readable way.
hi, does that means that he actually record 2 sounds, 1 from DI another from the amp? i want to buy a DI because when i use mic to speaker(not amp) it sounds very bad, a lot of distortion, does anyone can help me out? thanks ^^
@bboyliangwei Engineers like to be able to record both at the same time. Just in case the musician uses to many effects or... just to have options later, or for reamping.
@rabbidhedgehog : There's not really enough "power" or "volume" (sorry, I don't know the right word here) from the guitar...the D.I. box or a pre-amp adds this...(I think a DI box is a kinda pre-amp)
@JCMcGee No... a DI does nothing more than lower the instrument level that is found at the output of a bass or guitar, or the line level of a keyboard, down to mic level so that it can then be plugged into a pre amp. The level of a guitar or bass is too hot to plug directly into a mic pre,
@rabbidhedgehog not into the Mic Input. You also shouldn't plug it into the line level input either, as you will wind up distorting your signal by having to boost the pre amp to much.
@rabbidhedgehog depending on the strenght of your pickups, youre going to get a very crappy tone. its a nice application (with a di of course) for clean stuff but if you plug a guitar straight into a mixer, you cant turn it up loud enough to blend with the band or orther instruments without distorting the sound

This video doesn't explain anything about impedance matching or balancing the signal - the real reason that DI boxes are incredibly important.

The Direct Box was invented by Ed Wolfrum in Detroit around 1961, he later woked as an audio engineer at Motown.

i have a rapco db 100 direct box, its has a hi z in a hiz out, grnd lift in and a low z output(this is like a mic pluc)
how would i use this set up when im using my guitar amp and pedals???
thanks
rawrfosho 1 year ago
@rawrfosho - You want to have your guitar connect to what ever pedals you are using first, then bring it through your DI and out to the pedals.
From pedals to High Z In
High Z Out to Amp
Low Z out to MTR

The guy on the left seems like a douchebag. Mostly because of the backwards hat and the shitty prs guitar next to him.

there are electronics in a passive DI

So, I cant just plug my guitar directly into my mixer? What will happen then?

There is no "correct" term. All three are considered correct, moron.

Dude..... Why? People claim it's one of the following 3.... direct input, direct injection or direct interface.

DI works best for bass guitar. My bass player discovered DI on our second album, and it sounded GREAT! He's been using it in the studio ever since.
