  • Turn off electricity first. And don't forget about ground.

  • cool vid

  • need to show how to check if any power is going through.

  • last week i couldnt spell recracall engineer and this i are one

  • ummmm...isn't there a ground you must attach as well??...smokey the bear says yes!!

  • This is not a good tutorial. It's unclear explaination.

  • Yes there can be a white wire on the switch. Either because the code that requires the white to be marked with a color was not writen yet, or the electrician was to lazy to do it right. If there is a white, the power should come to the switch on that wire(which you should now mark with any color you want except green or gray), and return to the light on the already colored wire. If it seems to be more complicated on your own project, please be safe and consult your local electrical contractor.

  • Occasionally you Will find a white wire going to a switch. This is because the previous electrition created what is called a "Switched loop". According to the Electrical code he was supposed to have painted or put black electircal tape around the white conductor so that it would never be mistaken as the "Neutral" but few people bother to do that.

  • Actually to a switch you will NEVER have a white wire and a black wire. You will Always have two black wires. The white wire (neutral) is NEVER run to a switch. The white wire is typically found connected to and outlet but never to a switch.

  • wrong. dont listen to this guy.

  • No I am right! Don't listen to lynx9595

  • Ok bud. I just re-wired my whole house changing every light switch and electrical outlet before the house gets sold. and I came across several light switches with a white running to it sometimes even red. know what your talking about before you post comments on topics such as this, thanks.

  • I do know what I am talking about. Read the electrical code ass bite.

  • dude get a life obviously you don't. you've changed two light switches in your life and because of that you think light switches can't be connected to white wires, guess what your wrong. now stop handing out your advice when your complete moron cause you only confuse people that new are to these things. this is why the internet needs filters cause of dumbasses like you.

  • Hey shit-for-brains. crack a book once in while Gomer before picking your nose and feeling like your Emporer of the electrical industry.

  • dude your a loser all I said is light switches DO have white wires coming to them so new people dont read your FALSE comment and get confused. now stop posting on youtube and move on.

  • Exactly and that is the only reason why I post these responses so that people will not listen to your incorrect and false assertion. As for you personally I could care less.

  • ok since your not only retarded but ignorant as well. goto google images (if ur capable of doing that) and type in "light switch wiring" there you have PLENTY of diagrams with WHITE wiring.. what do you got to say now huh???

    /go kill yourself

  • I say exactly what I said 11 months ago idiot.

"Occasionally you Will find a white wire going to a switch. This is because the previous electrition created what is called a "Switched loop". • so... basically the white wire does exist and it is used, but the person has identify that it's a neutral so that people won't get confuse?, but isn't the wire white anyways? Just asking, cuz well I Don't know much of anything in the topic but just in case, it will be good to know something like that right? just in case something goes wrong in the house it will be good to know. thx!

  • well i will solve it for you right know, i am a electrician for 7 years and yes a white wire can go to the switch, because the LVT of lumex wire the black and wire wire as well a bonding wire is under one insulation. In this situation the white wire is supose to be hot and the black wire will be the switch leg due to the fact that a neutral is not needed for a switch. Second of all this guy is an idiot maybe tell people you can only dim incandescent lights,

  • and fluresent lights with special dimmers and ballasts, as well with older home with alluminum wirering to use switches rated for alluminum wire or fire can occur
