@percussin8or - I like Jerry Lewis in "The King of Comedy" a lot - some great choices and some great moments, but I definitely think there were five better performances in this category, namely , Mandy Patinkin in "Yentl", Jeff Daniels in "Terms of Endearment", Rip Torn in "Cross Creek", Ben Kingsley in "Betrayal" and the one that surprised me the most - little Ross Harris in "Testament". Not many people have seen that movie, but he is tremendous.
@PrinceandElizabeth - Sorry I didn't respond to this sooner. Kevin Kline's performance was indeed amazing and it was a travesty he wasn't nominated for an Oscar. However, "Sophie's Choice" came out in 1982 and therefore wasn't among the list of eligible films we were discussing on this show (we were discussing 1983). If we were discussing 1982, however, I'm sure he'd be right there in the mix...
What about Jerry Lewis for King of Comedy? Maybe not for the win, but at least a nomination.
