  • Search Advertisements are really working good for me.

  • WAUW, an indian what a effin suprise 0_0

  • Great video.. how did you do the wiggly fonts?

  • an india

your mum would be so proud naundu

  • Wait, do they pay to at the top or do there get there by people clicking on it? They say both of those!

  • It's one thing to have ads on search results. I wish there were a way to make them not move. It's annoying when searching and an ad is jumping all over off to the side. There should be a way to turn it off.

  • Something about this guys " every thing " I just dont like!

  • so if i just click ads and not use them all day, whoever are paying for them are gonna get pissed

  • what happened to his eyes? why are they soo black?

  • Fuck Google advertising. Fuck you Google Inc.

  • @bbunters Fuck You

  • @wealorg1

I wasn't aware that you are "Google advertising". Don't take it personally you fruitloop.

  • @bbunters You do realise YouTube is owned and funded by Google right? We can upload videos for free and watch them for free for one reason only - because of advertising.

Advertising makes up 97% of Googles revenue, which pays for our free access to all of their services. Running something like google or youtube takes millions upon millions upon millions of dollars, so without advertising we would all have to pay a subscription to use something like google...

  • @Hivemind5747 Of course I realize and my reaction was strong, but that's the effect too many ads in one session have on me, I start foaming from the mouth. I see the necessity for the ads, but I certainly don't have to like them. Ads on the side, if annoying, are what they are, but delaying the content I'm trying to view with some unrelated, loud crap I did not ask to see is ruining my internet experience.

  • @Hivemind5747 It's the trend and the future of advertising in such intrusive ways that has me really worried - look how fast this it's adapting: I record my TV shows now to skip ads altogether (like many obviously) - Result: Ad overlays in the middle of the movie. All this forced de-focussing from the subject at hand will have averse effects on the populations attention spans - it's already down to a couple of seconds. So instead of "Fuck Google advertising" I'll say "Fuck advertising".

  • @Hivemind5747 If Google is indeed such a unique place for creative minds to unfold, try coming up with agreeable (too all), new and innovative ways of advertising, not just streamlining the money making machine in such a way as to shove more irrelevant crap down all our throats.

    Here's hoping.

  • @bbunters I agree partly, but you say you record your TV shows to skip advertising - no advertising = no shows. You skip the ads but your viewing enjoyment is paid for by others watching the ads. These companies aren't charities, they advertise to live plain and simple, it's what they do. Either pay for the shows through some form of subscription (which would be many times what you are paying now) or live with the ads. You can't get something for nothing. Hopefully ads will get better though.

  • @Hivemind5747

Euhm, thanks for the elaboration, but I do very well understand how it works, I just don't like it. That's all. :)

  • He likes flowers.

  • Supeeeeeeeeeeer Ads, thx Google, we Love!

  • "Entertainment . . .Hollywood gossip"

"Enlightenment . . . some nonsense about hamlet"

"Information - the cliche proverbial flower shop"

This has deeply deeply offended me as a Google user. That is what they think people do?

  • Nundu jabarakaranaf WHat?

  • dhhdhdhcfgvhg

  • Nice explanation. I've never clicked on an ad in my life (I guess I'm just stingy with my money), but I like that Google keeps their ads from being annoying, unlike just about everyone else.

  • hehe he trained hard on his slang :p

  • Great service, but the presenter kind of scared me. LOL

  • @TimothyDonaghue why did he scare you?

  • google ads are the best - they deliver what you need - just like the search results

  • nice animated graphic presentation

    How Google made it?

  • This is the problem: if i search for say tickets to say Arizona ill get "OMFG FREE GO TO ARIZONA JUST GIEF CREDIIIT CARD AND ALL INFO AND PASSWORDS TO EVERYTHING AND PIN CODE AND YOU GO TO ARIZONA FREE WITH OMG FLYING SHIP LUXURY SPACESHIP HOUSE APARTMENT LUXURY THINGY FAS VERY FAST AND FREE NOT A SCAM OMG!"

Thats why i never ever click on ads. If i want to find something, i click on the search results, not the ads.

  • his English is good~

  • interesting information...

  • Cool

  • NUDU?

    WWAAAAATTT

    SUBSCRIBBBEEE

  • Great job of explaining why I use Google Adwords.

  • Interesting.

  • We dont need it

  • the attempt to serve not for users, only for big advertisers and make a file for all of us.Big brother or something similar...

  • There is no doubt that there is a gun being pointed at him from behind the camera

  • Can someone tell me how the growing letters are being made in After Effects. I'm talking about the first 4 seconds, where you see the "How Search Ads Work". Brilliant video by the way.

  • fuck google ask me :]

  • from the t-shirt :P?

  • what did i ask? -,-

  • AGREED

  • what are u talking about man -,-

  • replies to ur comment at the bottom

  • wai... what did i say though?

  • Indians are everywhere...

  • Sometimes i wish i was a guy do i could pee standing up ROFL

  • I agree ,type in thyda1000!

  • This video does a good job of introducing new users to how PPC works on google. It reminds me alot of the "in common english" series here on youtube.

  • phew, i use adblock and haven't seen ads for a while. i was really surprised the other day when i turned it off and now ads are even in videos on YT? i turned it on immediately

  • Now how is Google going to make money? You're making thousands of businesses make less money, because you're so selfish you will make people lose money just so you're page will load 0.01 seconds faster. Nice.

  • @AlecDavidTatum yeah right. i disable them since they are fugly and annoying (even in videos?! cmon) besides I didn't ever click on any web ad, so basically no one has made a dollar of off me, so it won't be any different in the future. i like my internet like i like my women. clean and nimble.

  • @gilegraam :

So, out of the thousands of ads you have viewed throughout all of your browsing days, you've never read one, clicked on one, researched it later or even considered it in your future decisions? I doubt it. By doing this, you're leeching off of all of your favorite websites, lowering their profits and possibly driving them out of business. I use an ad blocker too, but I disable it for almost all of my favorite and most used sites so that I don't damage them.

  • @Amidity No, I never click on any ads so it really doesn't make a difference to anybody if I disable it. And even if it did, I don't care. I view internet as I want it, and that is without shitty ads taking all of my screenspace for hostage. If you like it, view them, and stop preaching to others. I hate ads.

  • @gilegraam same here

  • People who witness the abuse of the DMCA and flagging system of YouTube to silence and remove videos and channels purely because the abuser has a personal beef with the channel owner no longer care about the ads on that page. Also, since the ads are on channels we want to follow, we no longer see them and channels that get millions of views... are gone. Abuse of the DMCA and flagging system equals disgruntled viewers who spread the word about this sorry state of affairs, and ads don't get seen.

  • google has the only ads that i like

  • 0:16 are you serious

  • We don't care about ads! YouTube must stop removing videos because of unverified DMCA false claims from random people.

  • Google!!! FIX THE DMCA ABUSE ISSUE!!!!!!

  • If you guys get Adblock for Firefox you won't have to see anymore Google Ads ever again.

  • Please don't disable ads. Ads are the little hope that keep millions of businesses running.

  • Sarah's flower shop offends me.

Where can I file a DMCA notice against it? Oh wait.

  • Comment removed

  • I never asked for ads, so don't shove them down my throat or I'll fix the problem myself.

  • Kick Google out of China ... woohoo!

  • It's time for the google revolution

  • Hey that was a great presentation and I better understand the whole ordeal. I guess I'll start to pay attention to ads around big sites like Google or IGN. Before I was worried about malware, but as long as I know it's safe, then why not. Just enhances browsing right?

  • Your inaction to even address the abuse of the DMCA laws on YouTube leaves you open to litigation via a class action lawsuit by peeved of users. This is not good enough Google.

Perjury laws, which is a felony punishable by 5 years IN FEDERAL PRISON, are constantly being broken via false DMCA take down notices via YouTube and your unwillingness to even address the issue is probably diverting the course of justice. I'm sure a lawyer will be able to back me here.

    CMON GOOGLE, FIX the problem.

  • AD-dress the DMCA abuse first, if you will. Please.

    :-(

  • If you get it together and fix the DMCA issues.

  • Funnel some of that revenue in to fixing up your current ventures perhaps.

I wouldn't say that google is as evil and unethical as many others would, but it would be nice if you spruced up such things as DMCA abuse, flagging and spam.

Something like having large amounts trusted users as mass moderators perhaps. Thus taking the load off of Google itself, and allowing things to be given the human touch, rather than automatic acceptance of accusations until proven innocent.

  • Comment removed

  • Please do something to protect honest users from those who would commit perjury and abuse the DMCA system. Maybe give the party getting the DMCA, the name address and IP address of the person filing the DMCA, so if need be, legal action can be taken by the person getting the DMCA notice.

And let's revamp the flagging system, while we're at it. It's abused far too often.

    Thanks.

  • Please consider fixing the mass of vote bot attacks and flase flaggings.

  • Please fix the the DMCA abuse that is eliminated YouTube's credibility with it's user base.

Many of us are creating accounts elsewhere where such abuses are not tolerated and thus you are loosing members.

  • bloodshot eyes

i see you smoke that mota my friend

  • 1:58 cool way too lose money , by clicks haha

  • google, fix the DMCA abuse, end votebotting and stop false flagging!

  • Okay. Here's a thought. Take the spam strikes off and let free speech prevail. Its a chance for you to show everyone that you are actually reading the comments on this vid. Those folks are simply trying to exercise their free speech and some dickwad is merely hitting the spam character and laughing at...you...and us. Step up to the plate. Its your turn at bat.

  • nobody except china right

  • Better to be in China, letting people know they're being censored, than not at all.

  • Fix the flagging system and help protect your users against DMCA abuse.

    censortube [dot] eu

  • Fix DMCA Abuse, false flagging, and stop votebot attacks!!!

  • The DMCA Abuse has to end! Now! Fixing it should be the main and first objective!

    cencortube (dot) eu

  • Yeah. I do. Fix DMCA abuse. Due to DMCA abuse, my video "grandeur" was taken down. The only thing that was not original content in that work was the text that I read out. IT came from Charles Darwin's "On the Origin of Species" and IT is public domain. The music was composed and arranged for the work, and the photographs were all taken by ME or MY WIFE.

But somebody filed a false DMCA against that video using the name of a non existent company, and it's gone. No questions asked. (more)

  • How is this relevant to the video content? Simple. I am a YouTube partner. I had enabled the video for revenue sharing. With the removal of the video, MY revenue is impacted, and so is Google's.

That relevant enough for you? Hm?

  • No it's not relevant enough. It's not relevant at all. This video is about search adds, not YouTube's DMCA policy.

  • Suit yourself. We have spent over two years trying to get YouTube and Google to fix this problem. We've had enough of sitting meekly in the back room going "sir..." every so many days.

There will be flogging until this gets fixed.

  • There's a video about Youtube's DMCA policy?

  • Not that I know of.

  • Because YouTube ignores emails, phone calls and legal requests relating to the abuse of copyright law, posting off-topic comments on an official Google video in the hope that someone with authority may take notice is one way of tackling the issue.

Removing videos deprives both YouTube and its unfairly-flagged partners of revenue, and is unfair for the rest of us who upload or watch videos here.

  • @rozeboosje Wow, that's too bad. And supposedly there's a feature in place to prevent and even reverse this type of abuse.

  • @Roshkin No. Google is simply hiding behind the Safe Haven provisions of the DMCA, and its contributors can go to hell

  • what about fixing the abuse flagging and DMCA systems, and votebotting,

  • It is interesting to note that google has most likely generated about $50m in revenue in the 22 hours since this video was posted.

I wonder how much of this has been alocated to fixing the false DMCA issues on YouTube as well as the votebotting and false flagging?

    censortube (dot) eu

  • I understand that Google moves very directly to establish and protect its revenue stream. It would be very much appreciated if Google took a somewhat greater interest in protecting its users from the abuse of its content protection tools.

  • The DMCA issue is far more urgent for users of this site.

This video could be flagged as spam/mass advertising under YouTube's own Terms of Service.

  • Fix the faulty flagging system which allows bogus DMCA claims to delete videos and channels - nobody is going to be watching ads on videos that aren't there.

The ads are poorly targeted - most of the ones I get on YouTube are for gay dating sites, $cientology courses and "Beat cannabis addiction" rubbish (I'm not gay, detest cults, and have no intention of giving up pot).

    AdBlockPlus FTW!

  • Fix The DMCA Abuse!

  • Fix the damn DMCA Abuse! Now!

    censortube (dot) eu

  • fix the fucking DMCA policy on youtube! there have been some excellent replacement ideas by some users, i suggest you look into it. FREE SPEECH!

  • i stopped using the google search engine because of the ongiong DMCA abuse on youtube.

false DMCAs destroy freedom of speech on this website, and unless this changes i will no longer "google" anything but use different search engines instead. and i will encourage others to do the same, in order to put pressure on youtube/google.

  • It figures.

    Has anyone else tried this?

Type "fix youtube dmca abuse" into google and it returns 12,400 results but no ads

What do we have to do. pay google for a bloody advert before they notice the bloody problem?

STOP DMCA ABUSE. Fix votebotting and false flagging.

    censortube (dot) eu

  • Paying for ads is a definite option. I'm willing to pull out my wallet to shove this into someone's face.

    censortube [dot] eu

  • Oh yeah I almost forgot censortube [dot] eu...

    ...

    Bitches!!!

  • Good! Now that you have all the adverts and their functions figured out, why not have a go with the DMCA and flagging system. You know, to reduce the chances of people BEING FUCKING REMOVED FROM THIS SITE UNFAIRLY.

Remember Fakesagan? Yeah, I'm still pissed about him being gone. And there are alot more since then who have been unfairly banned, DMCAed and all those nice things since then. I'm sure that makes for a lot of pissed off viewers out there. Read your comments, you'll see them!

  • Wow... 21B in ad revenues for FY 2008 and you can't spend just a couple minutes to address something other than ads. Deal with the problem of false flagging and the broken dmca system! We're getting sick of your shit Google. Stop acting like Microsoft. Do something to defend the freedom of your customers while they are using your product!

  • [taps the microphone] IS THIS THING ON? Testing... testing... censortube [dot] eu

    Test...

    Icle...

[tap][tap][tap][turns to other techician]I don't know. The audience aren't responding

  • Now I would never suggest anyone would do such a thing and could never condone any such action or support anywould who would do it but wouldnt it be funny if this vid got taken down due to false flagging and got DMCAd right back to hell

    GOOGLE STOP BEING EVIL!

Fix the DMCA, votebot and false flagging problems

    censortube (dot) eu

  • Sort out the way you handle copyright claims. It is an absolute joke and been demonstrated, many times over, to be a joke.

    censortube [dot] eu

  • I received this from YouTube:

Your video, Muhammad Museum of Censored Art (mirror) , may include content that is owned or licensed by these content owners:

•Content owner: Music Shake Type: Audio content

The source of this audio content was YouTube Audi Swap. It was used to avoid copyright infringement issues.

Is YouTube guilty of a DMCA violation? WTF?

  • ROFL - you're not serious!?!? That's just hilarious.

  • RB,

    It's true.

My other account was accused of copyright infringement for using a song by Ray Charles. The clip just displayed my channel icon for 30 seconds. In the last 10 seconds there was a text overlay ("Fuck censorship"). There was no audio whatsoever.

Is YT really that incompetent? Is YT attempting to force certain users to reveal their personal information?

  • If they were to change their Community Guidelines, and they were to replace "We encourage free speech and defend everyone's right to express unpopular points of view" with "we don't give a shit about your opinions and if we don't think it can earn us revenue we'll happily allow your work to be flagged, votebotted and DMCAed into oblivion", then I'll take the hint and I'll bugger off. As long as that lie is in their Community Guidelines I'll keep screaming that their pants are on fire.

  • RB,

    UPDATE

I disputed YT's claim of copyright infringement on the video Muhammad Museum of Censored Art (mirror). They ruled in my favor. But, I have a feeling that they will use another bogus excuse to remove the video.

  • That is very interesting and very good to hear.

I wonder whether they do something like add a sticky to a vid saying "reviewers, this vid has in the past been the target of unwarranted attacks". We'll have to wait and see. Keep me posted. It's a good sign. I just wish someone would communicate to us that they're aware of our pain. Saves us from having to speculate about it all.

  • Google's ability to be so intricate in revenue-generating ad placement, yet seemingly impotent in regards to DMCA issues, perjury, identity protection of vulnerable users, etc., shines a clear light on Google at the bottom rungs of business and human ethics. Keep it scummy, Google! At this point we expect nothing less from you.

  • That's all well and good that you explained how you guys generate revenue. However, how much are you guys losing in unneccessary expenses such as:

    1. Data used by sock accounts that are used only for vote-botting, false dmca's and false flagging.

    2. Bandwith used by people who use vote-bots. Once again, nothing gained by Google with this expense.

    3. Revenue lost by partnered channels being false-flagged and dmca'd into suspensions.

    We would love to know.

  • The system is designed to make Google richer.

  • whoa whoa whoa.

you came up with all of that to help you line your pockets, yet you have no idea how to prevent fraudulent DMCA claims? Really? REALLY?

come on google, stop aiding and abetting perjury.

  • I've never clicked a google ad intentionally and I NEVER WILL.

  • @dackjaniels555 I do if I hate the company as that means they have to pay for it.

  • you can keep ignoring the DMCA flaw/bug that benefits certain unscrupulous people, but as long as you do, the problem will keep growing out of control. Also, Nundu, you're a bit of a Wally, aren't you?

  • Your complaints system needs a total overhaul. People are using the DMCA as a sensorship tool, and as a means of gaining access to personal information of persons they mean to harm.

  • So, your system is so sophisticated it can figure out how to customize ad placement.

BUT it can't figure out that 99% of DMCA claims are bogus.

AND it can't stop votebots and false flagging. Very impressive.

Now why don't you put a few of your whiz kid programmers to work figuring out how to stop the endless, maddening abuses?

  • Perfectly put.

  • Nice that you can earn money with ads, but we would very much like a stop on false flagging, false DMCA-claims and votebots. Just to name something.

  • Hi, it would put a lot of people's minds at rest if you would just make a video statement acknowledging the issues surrounding the DMCA flagging system.

The problems, and if and what you plan to do to resolve these issues. It feels like we're talking to a brick wall, and it'd be nice to know if we're actually being heard. People are filing false DMCA claims just to get access to other people's personal details, and that's just not fair.

    Thanks

  • Do something with the DMCA abuses how long do people have to complain to you

  • Hey, how about fixing the false flag system. and maybe hold false DMCA claimers be brought up on purgury charges? i mean, if you're going to make videos about good business, maybe try being a good business? just an idea.

  • who gives a chuff about adverts when you cant even rely on the videos carrying the ads to stay up in the first place? fix DMCA and false flagging abuse.

  • Stop the DMCA abuse and abuse of the flagging system. Enough is enough!

  • No one likes you Nundu. They all talk about you when you leave the room.

Oh yeah and fix DMCA abuse.

  • ???

  • LOL

  • Hi!,

You want to talk about ads. Well, I will tell you what I want to talk about. I want to talk about what Google and YouTube are going to do to stop the abuse of the DMCA and flagging system.

Until you fix that why should we even care about your ads? If you cannot ensure free speech here and make sure that videos will not removed due to their expressed point of view, do you even deserve advertisers?

Do you think your advertisers would approve if they knew that you do not protect free speech?

  • Fix the easily abusable flagging system, do something about votebots and, last but not least:

    STOP DMCA ABUSE!!!!

  • How bout fixing the flagging system?????

  • Hey dude! While you're looking over these comments, how about you take the spam strike off mastrama13?

Be a cool frood and fix this, why don't you?

  • FIX DMCA ABUSE

  • Fix your DMCA reporting and validating!!

  • Dishonest users have turned you into a tool! Fix your faulty system! Stop DMCA abuse!

  • DMCA abuse is :(

YouTube's inadequate response to DMCA abuse is :((

  • There's a special place in hell for marketeers... especially when they become so obsessed with pleasing their target audience that they are willing to sacrifice freedom of thought and speech in favor of mediocrity and censoring out everything considered "unsuitable" for the sheeple and marketing purposes... FUCK THAT!

  • Don't be evil! Fix the flagging and DMCA system.

  • How much would I have to pay to advertise a way to end DMCA abuse?

  • Hey, smiling dude, Google allowed China to censor the Google engine for the sake of profit. Nice to make money by allowing governments to silence people and keep information unavailable.

Now you have another thing that affect us westeners as well. A common user who don't like a video can make a false DMCA claim to remove the video. Then to make a counternotice, this user get personal information about the uploader. Who is willing to risk their own life to have their video up on youtube? Fix it!

  • so if its irrelevant... its not displayed. why do half the youtube videos have zwinky 'make a cartoon you' when in looking at a Nexus One review?

  • Not many will see any ads on those videos that get DMCA's and taken down falsely.

Why not fic the DMCA system on Youtube so you dont lose money?

When a partner gets his videos DMCA's falsely you lose cash.

Like when a user with 18,000 subs gets 20 of his videos fassley DMCA'd it must cost you a bundle.

It also, the way it works today, infringes on our free speech that YT claims to uphold i the ToS!

    FIX IT!

  • You might notice a trend in the comments here opposing DMCA abuse. Of course that would only happen IF you cared about the opinion of youtube users.

    Fat chance of that eh?

  • Nice advertising vid, but it's not very professional if you can't even take care of simple things such as childish users false-DMCA-ing people. I mean it's like living in a town where you can tell the police to arrest anyone and they comply immediately, even if you give them no reaon, and then the other guy has to struggle out of the mess. Fix the DMCA and flagging system so it can't be abused anymore!

  • that's a great analogy

  • Uh, I and basically no one else cares about this. Fix the DMCA system. From this moment on I will now boycott all google ads until the Flagging controls are repaired.

  • DMCA RING A BELL ?????

That little nasty button, what can be used to SILENCE PEOPLE, who have NOTHING OTHER THEN THEIR OWN PHOTO'S SHOWN ???

Ever GOOGLED THAT ?? FCK your ADS !!

  • If you want to be seen as sellouts and corporate shills, YouTube, then keep putting videos like these up. If you want to be seen as supportive of the community that made you the giant you are today, put out a video regarding DMCA's and how you are going to fix the broken system you've built around it.

Think about the ones who got you where you are now, and ask yourself if you really want to lose them.

  • just curious Google - IF i wanted to place an PSA/advert alerting internet users of your tacit compliance in abuses of free speech, how would you go about profiling my advert to gain maximum exposure?

people without any copyright claims repeatedly file DMCAs maliciously to get channels suspended or removed. your failure to protect your users from such abuses makes you complicit in them.

    time to fix the system.

    END DMCA ABUSE, NOW!

  • Ad's are realy groovy and all, and I am happy for you that Google is making money. But will you please fix the false-flagging / DMCA / votebot problem now?

  • Please fix the false flagging on youtube.

  • Fix false flagging, fix false dmca's.

  • stop telling us that we see ads in our search results (we kind of figured that out for ourselves) and get on fixing the retarded DMCA system. you know, so people can't use it to break the law and get away with it 9 times out of 10? that retarded system? you know, the one that's gotten loads of people's accounts suspended and others closed when they've not done anything wrong?

any of this a-ringing a bell?

  • And now: GOOGLE : DMCA.

YOU will find a whole lot of people EXTREMELY PISSED OFF.

    Ever WONDER WHY ?

    Because the DMCA system FAILS.

So, forget the ads, and DO something to get YOUR system fixed !!

  • fix the dmca procedure

  • Let's talk about how tens of people in MY fringe community ALONE have had their accounts destroyed and their hard work of years obliterated simply because YouTube cannot bother its arse checking out flags and DMCA claims against the most basic criteria such as "if a company files a DMCA, does the company actually EXIST"
