@DarthKrieg13 1970 Cougar Boss 302 Eliminator might be more cars just off the top of my head.In 1968 you could get a 429 boss in a Mustang biggest stock motor I think you could get stock from ford.

@DarthKrieg13 Yes, its a 1969/70 Mustang. You *can* put a different engine, including a big block, into a Boss 302, but then it wouldnt be a boss 302. It would be a Boss 302 body with different engine, not a Boss 302 ci engine.

yeah i know they're legal, but i've already thought about putting a carb'd motor in a 2005+ mustang and would not be street legal since thats not the engine that came with the car originally. you'd have to pass all the smog tests with stock cats(can't upgrade the cats in cali).

The Carburetor was a mechanism designed to more effectively combine oxygen (air) and fuel so that the ratio of fuel to air was properly proportioned which would allow the internal combustion engine to function.

In other words, the accelerator pedal would be hooked up to the carb valve and this valve would open more the more the pedal was pushed down. This increased the ratio of air to fuel, and let the engine get more air which means it had a great output of power.

I own 10 Cars, All Carb, and my main Vehicle a 1974 Ford One ton dually flat bed is Carbureted, So is my Volkswagen beetle and they're all street legal and driven on a regular basis. @BBBsyankeeassistant you must have been mistaken by my comment. i love carb'd engines and would love to put one in a new 2005 mustang. unfortunately california law does not permit me to put one in. if i could i would put a 302 or a 351 in a heartbeat. unfortunately smog emissions are much stricter today. that carb'd engine would have to pass the smog regulations for 2005, not the year the engine was built. which means evap systems, egr systems, pcv systems etc all have 2 pas

Even cooler, Ford released a 350cid engine that normally puts out around 500 bhp, but with an ecu can be made to chuck up around 600 bhp--without a supercharger!!

It's a crate engine, so you'll have to install it yourself, but it sounds like Ford is becoming what they used to be--a car enthusiast's company.

The '70 Boss isn't a racing car. In terms of the engine it's too stock. More like a car for showing. The 2010 Boss...looks nice but no comment.

Btw, Ford recently confirmed the development and inclusion of the Coyote V8 5.0L engine coming into the 2010 Mustang. I'm not sure if it's stock or an optional extra. However, stock it produces 400 bhp and 400 lb-ft of torque.

That's not bad at all. Also, rumor is that Independent Rear Suspension is coming around 2011.

right now, Mustangs use a live axel, it does not provide good maneuverability and handling. IRS lets each rear wheel react to its surface separately, allowing the car to turn better. If Ford was really serious about offering a performance car, they'd offer multi link geometry as well.

The Boss 302 was not designed for blazing Quarter Mile speeds; if anything it was hard pressed to get out of it's own way even with a tail wind. Rather, it was designed for very high RPM with brutally fast cornering (vis-a-vis the Trans Am platform) in which it patently excelled. Likewise the comparable Z-28 from Chevrolet of '69 and '70. Note however that the Z-28 had to pump out nearly 2,000 additional RPM in order to match the power output of 290HP which the stock Boss 302 produced.

Oh, they are. This is true of many of the current crop of Muscle Cars. I believe it was Car & Driver that pitted a 1969 'Vette w/427 against a ZO6, and a 1970 Boss 302 against a Mustang GT (I forget the year). In both instances the newer breeds blew the older away. It's technology; they're lighter with newer alloys, computerized for fuel intake and timing, the whole bit. Even in in the Salom, the older ones just couldn't keep up.

Having said that, I'd still take the original Boss 302 in a heartbeat. I bought a 1970 Boss 302 in 1973 with only 32K miles for (ready to cry?) $2,375.00. Roof slats and rear spoiler as well. The Dual Point Distributor had been blueprinted by 'Dyno Don' Nicholson. Unfortunately said car slid on the ice and hit the first post of the guard rails which resulted in, amongst other damage, the block having a hairline crack. I know what that would be worth today; I try not to think about it.... :-(

All Boss 302's (69-70) had the 302 Cubic inch engine-solid lifter w/ Cleveland style heads. Mach 1's 69-73 had different choices of motors (except the Boss 302 or Boss 429 motor in 69 and 70).

Mach 1's 03-04 had the 4.6 litre DOHC engine (Cobra motor w/out supercharger).
