  • My gymnastics coaches tell me to eat more... :/

  • Odorrianch, I was an athlete and I got an eating disorder. I new I had to eat but I saw a pic that made me look fat so I lost weight fast. I didn't care what people said about me and my waight

  • I was literally about to cry in this! I became anorexic because I ran so much and ate so little. I am better now and can slow run no matter how fast I want to go:( and yes u could have called me a beginning athlete.

  • These women look fit and strong...our society is so skewed in it's ideas re weight.... Skinny and strong is normal and good. None of thesevwomen look unhealthy.

  • faakee.. good athletes that love sports know that they have to eat a lot, they burn everything anyways, so why stop eating?.. they get better at their sport when they have good muscles and a good neuronal response.. which you cant get starving.

  • I'm an iceskater and there is definatly pressure to be thin cause you have to look good in the dresses cause their skin tight and if you're fat...well you just look like shit if you're a fat iceskater in those dresses. You HAVE to be thin. And your coaches )or at least mine) aren't afraid to tell you that you need to slim down.

  • this video doesnt even make sense! please take it off of youtube! none of it is true! i know sports that you need to be Fit *not skinny* to be in and none of these qualify! i only see like 4 girls in this that are "skinny"

  • half of these girls arent even skinny, there all fit and in shape! and healthy!

  • Comment removed

  • There is a lot of pressure in swimming... Especially when half your team is already bulimic and the rest is just plain skinny

  • song artist and name??

  • in all honesty id pick winning over well being

  • i run cross country and track.well im 5'2 ad 115 pounds. im average but compared to other runners im big. i kill in competition, you need some body fat. As athletes we need food!!!Im strong and damn proud of it. when i gain weight its usually cause i increase the intensity of my workouts leading to an increase in muscle mass. i would rather be called the chubby runner than not be able to run at all. Thats how i prove my abilities.

  • weird, there was barely any gymnasts in here, gymnastics is like the sport with the highest amount of eeting disorders even at non-elite levels, and yet there was only one picture of them in here, of a not particularly skinny gymnast. Ever heard of Parkettes, Christy Henrich, Kristen maloney Yelena Mukhina?

kind of ignorant really to put in basketball and not gymnastics... >:(

  • I'm sorry you find this video ignorant. You can go watch the millions of other videos that don't include any other sports and focus only on gymnastics. I really tried to just make a point and make people aware that this happens... in all sports!

  • @gymshiv kristen maloney was the only gymn. from parkettes. christy henrich and yelena mukhina werent from parkettes

  • @tatulover2120 Yeah I know, I was just listing parkettes as a gym where weight is very strict, then the gymnasts who had issues with weight, perhaps I shouldve made that clearer..ah well

  • @gymshiv lol u know i go there?

  • @tatulover2120 nope, I didnt know that, what's it like?

  • @gymshiv omg i LOVE IT!!! its so much fun i have videos up if u want to c

  • @gymshiv , especially Rhytmic Gymnasts.

  • @gymshiv Yelena Mukhina died because of paralysis not an eating disorder... Still terrible though.

  • @gymshiv Actually eating disorders are most common in jockeys and there are no pictures of them either

  • beingg skinney is everything!

  • Please remember that males have eating disorders as well, though I see mostly females in this montage. When I was in high school, our school had one of the best wrestling teams in the state. The boys on the team were dieting to get in the lower weight class. Then let's talk about the harmful effects steroids have on a body. Look at Tour de France cycling. They have 4% body fat and who knows what kinds of drugs those male cyclists take.

  • the Tour De France cyclists definately don't take drugs, they have to do numerous drug tests throughout the race. It is one of the most controlled sports.

  • im a very competitive swimmer and were definetly not under pressure to be skiny!! werer skiny because we work so much. my coachesw just told me today that if i eat 2 bannanas i need to eat 4 if i eat 4 eggs i need to eat 8 i need to be eating over 6000 calories a day and the thing is im only twelve and theyre telling us that we have to eat that much cause i dont have calories to keep me goin throught the meets

  • I am also an extremely competitive swimming but I disagree with you a little bit. I think we put a lot of pressure on ourselves. If you're being seen in a suit everyday and you feel like you are too big and everyone else is thinner... it puts a lot of pressure on you.

  • Has anyone ever thought that the amount of excercise these kids get makes them that slim?

  • it would, but in running and swimming we arnt actually supposed to lose weight during the season. And if we get thinnner its mostly due to toning

  • this is so true everyone feels that pressure some how or another but also starving yourself for a sport can harm you oh and also at 2:22 I can see my church in the back ground srry that was random but I noticed that

  • Every female athlete needs to see this. Actually anyone who thinks there not good enough at the size and shape they are needs to see this...the way God made you is beautiful.

  • what about gymnastics?

  • gymnastics is one of the most dangerous sport when it comes to eating disorders...there's a lot of talking about dieting and weight watching there...I spent 4 years in competitive gymnastics...it was a total nightmare...

  • im in competative gymnastics too but its not a nightmare! yeah i have to watch what i eat but its not a nigthmare!

  • well i can tell you you are lucky...it means that you have good coaches...my coach was obsessed with dieting I'm 1,75 metres and she wanted me to weigh between 40 and 45 kg maximum...In the end I felt really weak even to do everyday things let alone to train...now I'm in judo and it's much better..I have to watch my diet but I'm required to mantain a normal weight (58-62 kg)

  • oh wow dude! thats awful!

  • I think rhythmic gymnastics moreso then artistic. Look at shawn johnson, shes slim but she has lots of muscle, and shes built! It doesnt seem like she has much pressure. I do rg, and if you look at the top gymnasts they are sticks. I feel this pressure, and i feel like if i dont look that skinny (which i dont) i wont be as good or as beautiful as them when i compete.

  • @xXxReflectingGod yeah agreed but both rhythmic than artistic struggle but more so rhythmic cause usually they are all long legged skinny beans

  • Whats the name of this song ?

  • Hands by Jewel

  • I am a sophmore in high school and I had to miss my cross country season because of anorexia. My coach never said to lose weight but runners are soo skinny. My freshman year I was the best new runner in my high school and now I pray everyday to be able to run!!

  • I'm a senior in hs this year. I've been running since freshman year. I was really skinny my sophmore year of xc. I was really fast and was the best on the team. Then I gained weight & stopped getting faster. Now I'm struggling cause I think I have an ed cause I skip eating a lot. Once you start it is so hard to go back to eating...you're right, all you can do is pray to God for help cause he's your strength. Good luck runforfun. I'm cheering for ya. Hopefully both of us can remember why we run=)

  • @Mandiegracie how are you doing these days? has your eating gone back to normal?

  • OMG love it

swimmer, and u would think that as a sprinter coaches would pretty much leave me alone by my wt. yeah right. You miss qualifying by tenths and hundreths of seconds and they go to say something till I remind them that I lift more than their guys so I get to weigh more. And tehn I go home to miss meals etc cause lighter means faster, not always when u gotta lift me out of the pool coz i passed out.

  • And it still FUCKING gets to me!

  • I understand...I do judo and everytime that something goes wrong...I look in the mirror and I feel the impulse to become thinner...even if I know that judokas need to have muscles and all that...

  • yeah....i like ur video i definitly agree!.....but u should put more pics of skinny gymnasts and ballerinas....im in gymnastics and my friend is in ballet and theres lots of pressure to be very slim for those sports!

  • I just completed a sociology project on Athletes and eating disorders. It is so incredibly sad. This video is very well done.

  • Hey I'm working on a similar sociological project here in my university!!!And I agree...it's so sad...sometimes when I hear the stories of these girls I get so mad inside...things like these shouldn't happen...

  • good video

  • Thank you for making this video. Really made me step back and look at this epidemic. I participated in long distance running in highschool and felt extremely pressured to stay fit/lean. Keep up the good work, we all really appreciate it...

  • everyone assumes athletes are so healthy because they can perform well...even with a proper diet though running 10 miles a day for example just isn't healthy...most sports overtrain. and a low bmi can actually help performance. people call wanting to be thin vain - but wanting to perform better at all costs? courageous, dedicated, etc. huge problem.

  • i mean, you got it exactly. soccer, not so much. you had to have the mass, be able to withstand a lot of abuse against your legs, etc. skinny wouldn't serve you there unless perhaps you just played forward and had mad skills so that no one could even keep up...but then you'd be fouled, so...anyway great video.

  • I agree. being skinny isn't too good of a thing in soccer. I had to quit soccer because i lost too much weight and my body just couldn't handle it anymore, not to mention that my playing skills died.

  • Thanks for the comments!! :)

  • Wow this really got to me.. thankyou for making this

  • I really like this vid as it shows the other side of athletes lives, I was at my worst I think when I was long distance running - now my body is just wrecked!!!
