Could it be that the doctrine of Hell is preposterous and morally disgusting and implicates God in depravities that make the crimes of Hitler and Stalin and Pol Pot seem mild by comparison? How about that, N.T.?
Would a Loving God punish us forever in burning torment for a few decades of sin on Earth. This equation does not balance the scales of God's perfect sense of Justice.
@bpe1961 God Does not do the punishing, He doesn't SEND anyone to hell, if you believe hell to be a physical place or such. No, It's much rather a state of mind, deprived of the love of God that can never again be attained, what could be the worst thing in the universe than that, a hell. It's much like being at a party where you yourself have chosen not to be part of, not because the host sent you out but becaue you don't like the host and for your own self involvement don't want to take part.
So Hell on Earth was made a denial taboo in WW1 and Auschwitz, amplified by a "hell" mythic death punishment? But Jesus attested a God of Awe+Life, NOT of Terror+ Death with a secula/sickle (Matthew 22.32).
Matt 4.1 presents the Devil defect in mind (spirit). It is impulsive one-sidedness based on use of values per se, not only the peace, food, Great Leader deity, deified state, and universalism identified (Soft Devil). This causes an abyssal slide Fall to ruination (Hard Devil) Hell on Earth.
Your faith isn't in Jesus .Your only faith is in the humans that wrote the new testament.Your faith is in humans not Jesus.People are now starting to realize that the church has an evil history and also the fact that the church CAN NOT save a human soul from hell. These priests and bishops are not god,nor do they speak for god. They only represent a book written by barbaric humans that lived in ancient times. The nagg hammadi library has the instructions on how to trancend this world.
As one that has died an unbeliever in Jesus and experienced first the Justice of God by going to Hell, then the mercy of God as He pulled me from it...I'm concerned about the growing prevalent attitude in and out the faith that Hell is not real..
The new testament is pretty clear on this subject and it just explodes with the teachings of Christ, know him and be obedient to him, pray and fast until he reveals him self...
I think it is quite ironic that all the unbelievers out there that deny God, jesus, his word, hell etc. spend their time watching these kinds of videos posting comments about there unbeliefs. I'm thinking, "Well if you don't believe in that stuff to begin with why are you looking it up/researching it in the first place." And then they'll probably come up with some elementary and sarcastic response like, "I can cause its a free country" or "To see how stupid you are" Just something to think about
I might have said exactly the same as you when I was 18 and still in a religious organisation but at age of 27, I started to do my own research. This lead me into searching for the REAL ins and outs of religions and science. believe it or not, some research to find out stuff and that means watching all points of view. Even when we think we have got to the bottom of something it is still good to question and listen to conflicting sides. And maybe some are here to try and do what you're doing...
maybe they have decided what they believe and thought that they would spread the good word and let you guy's in. I mean, that's what god lovers do isn't it? share what they have found to be the truth? Maybe some peoples truth is that they do not believe in God! I'm now 31 and can quite honestly say after researching tons of stuff, I'm sure that there is a God, but I don't believe the bible or any other religious manipulated text. Why? because I watched a series about ancient religious beliefs.
@Quantum828 yea i agree, i myself do not believe in any religion in fact i don't have one but i don't go to people saying that they can't believe in their beliefs. I respect ones beliefs in religion and god and i think they should also respect my beliefs aswell. You don't have to believe in certain things as long as you give love and respect to one another. All im saying to everybody is RESPECT.
@m1grand70 I "respect" that argument but it doesn't ring universally true. Should we respect cultures like the Aztecs involved in ritual human sacrifice? What about the Nazis and their eugenics world view? What about the USA that routinely engages in illegal wars?
@Quantum828, I think with the issue of religion, we are all not just allowed but implored to involve ourselves in the subject, seeing as religion is an aspect which affects our society so much. It makes no difference if I am a believer or not, it is interlinked into our whole way of life and thus we have every right to criticize it at every oppurtunity, or what is the use of free speech? I for one am interested philosophically however I believe it is my duty to argue with and question religion.
@Quantum828 How would one know that one does not believe in something unless one first tries to understand it? Religions and religious beliefs are an important part of the cultures of the world. It is just as important to understand the beliefs of other cultures as it is to understand their art, literature or politics.
@Quantum828 Um, I think we should be encouraging research rather than discouraging it. Would you prefer people never question their beliefs? Surely not.
@Quantum828 I personally watch these types of vids to see if there is something I'm missing; After all, the vast majority of the world believes in some type of god, so there must be a good reason. I'm looking for the reason. So far, the guy in this video is the ONLY christian I have found that talks sense. I still don't believe the bible is true, but at least if all Christians were like this guy I wouldn't have as big of a problem with religion.
Christ spoke more of hell than anyone in the Bible, so it has to be addressed, as Wright says. Jesus seemed to take it quite literally so perhaps we Christians should. We just need to address it properly and not with horns and pitchforks and other extrabiblical imagery.
@LukaOneill I have read Borg. And Bell. And several others. And they haven't convinced me Jesus was only talking about the garbage dump outside Jerusalem. Only that they want him to have.
hmm you do realise pauls letters were written first, many years before the gospels, he only mentioned HADES once, and I'm sure gehenna had a different meaning rather than being a metaphor for the afterlife
Hell is not talked about because it doesn't exist..period..it is just a mith to explain the consecuences of bad behaviour. The same applies to heaven and all the rest of miths and fairy tales from the bible, coran and all the other religions.
Personally, I have never heard one word about Hell preached at my church, which I've been going to my whole life. I think it is very important for people to be taught about Hell in church. Jesus spoke about Hell a lot in the New Testament and took it very seriously, so shouldn't we as well? After all, how can you truly love God for saving you if you don't understand what he saved you FROM?
I love your channel! The natural consequences of bad behavior are sufficient in themselves to discourage wickedness without our assuming the role of G*d and offering the proselyte our personal version of an afterlife. Shalom.
love the video man

NT Wright presents a refreshing approach from the religious side;"it seems to be...","it's not clear, but..." etc.
If he is an expert on the new testament and is admitting that it's open to interpretation, why can't the less "expert" followers?
This is a nice change from the self-assured certainty I'm used to reading.

What's is interesting to me is much of what Jesus said about hell seems to refer to those who are claiming to be believers.

The idea of eternal torment is only mentioned in the new testament.
Can't any one understand it's about the message. Not the stories but the essence of them. And definatly not the messengers.
