I think the major difference is the Gay Rights movement is a nationally organized movement for rights and the activities of the WBC are a centralized effort promoting an individual churches religious dogma. It's true their efforts could introduce legislation intended to curb their 1st amendment rights but our constitution will hopefully remain strong. Although America as a whole is repulsed by their church dogma they will continue to have their rights as Americans
Has anyone ever though about the fact that Westboro Baptist Church could be a bunch of liberals with one goal of creating issues by using such inflamatory speech in order to get laws on the books limiting free speech? The Gay community uses those tactics all of the time to further their goals.
