fuck mint video. i was at work during the latest 6.3 we had that centred near lyttleton. Forkklifts and containers were jumping up and down. screw being on that bridge during an eq.

It's not fake. The system is running motion detection and as the people are walking off-screen there isn't enough motion to keep the system recording.

Also, the camera is salted up: if it were a fake you'd probably have a much cleaner image.

The pier was closed for weeks afterwards, as were all the city council owned buildings and structures, until their engineers had time to inspect. It is open again now, and I was there just over a week ago. It's amazingly undamaged, thanks to this design. There is a bit of duct tape over the join, and otherwise it looks perfect.

Oh for goodness sakes. What is this need for people to immediately shriek "fake and gay" (or some such bollocks) whenever they're confronted by images theyr'e struggling to get their puny brains around? I was in that exact same spot today and no, the pier is still standing but you can clearly see indicators of the events in the above video. As if anyone would waste their time on such a video to mislead the public. It's Christchurch, NZ, not New York city.
