Rest in Peace Ronnie,Luke and Ciaran, the worlds a sadder place without you,our loss is Heavens gain,I'll bet the angels are having a rare old hoolie with you all.God bless you for your gifts of music.
Amazing song, Ive loved the dubliners since I can remember, I am now 21, and think that irish folk is very underestimated in this day and age. I love playing along to most dubliners tracks, on penny whistle, bodhran. mandolin and guitar
@wicketchicken, Cocky/cockie is actually short for Cockatoo, not cockatiel. It's referring to farmers who really struggle to peck a living out of the ground.
believe it or not i have been taken to task by another person on utube because i questioned why all her uploads of the dubliners had no reference to ronnie drew.i was told and i quote!! DREW BROUGHT NOTING TO THE DUBLINERS!! unquote did this person ever listen to this haunting version by ronnie.......rest in peace king of ireland.....................
@jimmyriddle100 Just reading your comment about somebody saying that Ronnie brought nothing to The Dubs...............wow,what a thing to say,I'm lost for words............and whoever made the comment, well it doesn't deserve a reply.I've been all over Europe with the Dubs, and believe me Ronnie will never be replaced,a true one off!!
Ronnies Tod ist ein Verlust für alle Liebhaber der irischen Musik. Vor 30 Jahren habe ich eine LP gekauft: "The Square Fellas" Das war mein " go in" zu dieser Musik.
Viele Grüße = greetings from Isle Rügen (north-east-germany /Eastsea/Baltic Sea)
@buckfastred The reality of things is that every living, dies and there is nothing we can do about it and we must accept the facts and not worry consistently about things.
parakarter you hit the nail on the head this is stockton wing backing him on the late late show 25 years of the dubliners ..... lives every word so ture
Simplicity & Beauty in the dulcet tones of Ronnie Drew! but yes, i jest to a beauty played with natural talent & a story to hook you from start to finish, Its without a doubt an Ozzie Jem!!!
lovely song i learnt this song when i was 12, its all about a COCKATIEEL{yeah the birds} farmer in australia, hense the line "for nearly 60 years ive been a cockie". sad song sung grest by ronnie

Used to listen to this when I was young too. I Love the original by Eric Bogle, but The Dubliners' one is better in my opinion. RIP Ronnie.
