i think it came out gorgeous! love the design.i want to build my own acoustic and maybe a hollow body but i dont have any of the items i need. guess im just going to have to save up and buy em.but really it is a nice guitar.well i liked it anyway

@THEJSEED can you maybe go into some detail about attaching the neck? That's the one thing I can't figure out on my instruments. It seems like there would be too much force from the strings to do a joint like that
that's really good aye. i wish i was as creative as you and had the tools to make a guitar. You got any advice on here to do it? and what equipment you would need to make it and how much did it cost you altogether to make the whole thing!!! i wanna make one!!! :-D
@brookee30 I got all my ideas of other guitars and ecorperated the best onto mine. Tool wise it is made 100% by hand using basic hand tools but make sure they are sharp!! I think the build coust about £200 with all the glues, veneers, frets, laquers, keys etc but look at the prices of a hand made guitar to buy!! Look in music shops at guitars and choose their best bits, make a sketch and take pics and go from there. Thats what I did any way. Fret gaps etc can be found online. good luck
@julie77412 This is my first and only attempt at making a guitar and i am really pleased with the result however I think my experience with working with wood helped alot, but if you have got the drive and pacience then im sure you will do a great job at making your own!! There is loads of advice on the internet and although i have only made one i would be happy to try and help with any queries.
Yes, very nice .. but it is a result of too professional. Please tell me you've studied in a school of restoration of antique furniture, woodworking, luthier .. so I will have a reason to not be ashamed!
I am flattered by your comments but unfortunatly i have never been trained in bespoke wood work however i have been making things with wood from as far back as i can remember. Thanks you for your comment
Really nice looking guitar!... I have built my self 3 guitars...and I used exactly the same steppes as you did... but your guitar is far better than mine's, I have to pay more attention to the details... really like your guitar
You've got some major skills my friend. I'm not a fan of the "Ibanez Talman" body style (I prefer jumbo's, GA's, dreadnoughts and such), but you did a great job building it!
@MRLD237 different bits of the guitars design are based in a number of different guitars,- i just went round the music shops and took pics of what i liked the look of! the internet was great for finding info on types of wood etc. a friend brought me a book (step by step guitar making by alex willis) which shows a much easier way of making guitars however i had already started my way and wanted to continue. i would love to see pics of your project! any Qs just ask!! John Seed
@KoR yes the rose wood strips were cut on the band saw and the white beach veneer strips were cut with a straight edge and a knife. I applied apoxy to the gluing surface on the guitar and held the lined in place with pins. tideous possibly but it worked out nice in the end!! thanks for your comment!!john
@left4dead69 2 and a half years it took to make!! learning bend the sides was a killer,- good old trial and error! I mastered it by the forth set. I did a time sheet to see how lond it took me to put the purling on,- 106 hours!! so worth it though. Im not sure if ive got and plans left, leave it with me. Glad you like it!!
this is sick man , you should set me up with some plans so i can build myself a sick guitar like this one , amazing job it must of took forever to build something like this
@TheDangerousBiker 1 month planning, two and a half years in total to finish it, ive used mahogony with oak strips for the back and neck, rosewood for the fret board and dark lines in the purflin, and an old piano sound board for the sound board. My tools are very basic, i did most of it by hand hence the long time building. I started the build when i was 16.
Is this your first build? If so it's very impressive. I've built 4 so far, none of them approaching this for craftsmanship. Also, I find your construction methods fascinating, unlike any I've seen before, and I will be trying to copy something like this after the 3 I'm working on now are finished. How do I find your plans on e-bay? By the way Lowden's also use a pinless bridge system and you don't hear about those collapsing do you? Respect! , Dave.
Yes this is my first build, i was only planning on building one guitar so i wanted to make it special. My construction methods are a result of trial and error, it took me 12 months to bend the sides to a perfect standard (with my NO experiance in steaming)
The bridge came off after the first week of having strings so i changed the glue and have never had a problem since. (6 months so far)
@THEJSEED When using a pinless bridge, then usually two small bolts or screws are added for securing the strength, even with pin bridges. But if you say it is lasting, then this is more than good. Still looking forward for some sound samples.
@Velkus96 i didnt want to de-face the bridge with any sort of visible fixing so to aid the strength, i made two rosewood dowels which i drilled and fitted under the saddle and sanded flush. They seem to be doing the job and are almost invisible when saddle is lifted.
ive joined a new band so hopefully i will make a recording if we ever do some.
@Velkus96 thank you for your comment. I have choosen to put a brace across where the string holes would be, A) for strength and B) for sound,- I thought it would help spread the vibrations from the bridge area. The Band are called the doormat antics. Check out their myspace.
@THEJSEED Usually this style of bridges and bridge mounting type are used for classical nylon stringed guitars, and then the steel strins are not recommended because they mighy rip the bridge off the sound board. (have had experience)
But lets hope for the best! And I am anxiously waiting for some sound samples
