You say you do it once a year? the average person's hair grows 6 inches in a year, they need at least 10 inches they say. Your hair just gets thrown away.
@ChameleonicRenegade They need the extra inches to weave it into a wig. The wigs are very expensive to make, and so if they cannot use a certain persons hair, say, because it has grey, it was colored, or too short to use in the wigs, they sell it to help defray the cost of the wig making process.
@naturekeene7 Ah, yes, I notice that on their website. I will say however, having seen the president of Locks of Love say that it says right there what she thinks of the people who donate and how they make her job a lot more difficult. How the hair donations seem to benefit the donors, almost in a self-righteous way that it becomes little about the people, but what they are willing to give up. It's a way that people can give back without actually having to sacrifice a commodity/money.
“We created this monster because people get so much from it,” said Madonna Coffman, the president of Locks of Love. “They get the attention. They get a warm and fuzzy feeling. They feel they’re going to help a child.”
“A check would be easier for me,” Ms. Coffman said. “But would the donors get out of it what they do? No.”
Is your fan on or something?
