i really think that the composer of this song (WayFinder/Sebastian) doesn't know how good this soundtrack is ;-)) because he made allot of other tracks..
@freejaytea: i agree 100% these dudes are wizards...and in the past Jeroen Tel was one of my fav's...i still looooove the Cybernoid tunes from the c64, and those from Martin Galway...
This is so poetic, so beautiful, so amazing I wish I had more words to describe it. If you have the slightest clue what kind of technical expertise and wizardry it takes to create something like this, you simply need to go silent with awe. Chaos and the lads have gone a long effing way.
I programmed some sorts of swarms latlely, If you need tipps how to make them look more natural: Use random latency of minions und random spaces between them, minor randomness in in Speed and Direction... so the Swarm will look much more Natural much less what i call "Sharp" or "Syncy". BTW: Great Demo
@TheSwanies Sorry I programmed this for a company, cgi-animations-loop for a product demonstration... and had to sign that I am not allowed to use it, fully or in parts, for my self...
You know, when the guys who work on these demo's look back in old age to these times, they are going to be able to say that they really created something extraordinary and unique. That is something only a chosen few can say. I love this demo, it gives so much pleasure in watching it. Thank you Farbrausch!
@slitor The fact that it is in real time does not mean that it isn't an animation. The literal definition for animation is a sequence of 2d or 3d images which create the illusion of movement. This is an animation.
This video has been selected by the channel as one of the best Animation videos on YouTube and was added to the channel's playlist accordingly. Thanks for sharing.
This was amazing especially since I hadn't seen a demo since the Amiga A500 days when I used to make compilations of demo which used to be sold by different companies you'd see in magazines haha. Great work todays advancement is huge but I just wish a new Commodore would come along and blow everything out to wind like it used to. CRYSTAL, ACCEPT NO IMMITATIONS WE WERE THE WORLD'S #1 :)
wow , where and how does one learn ? i have some beats ive been working on , and would like to line up with some sick shit like this , amazing , and amazing usually means really difficult , props !
WOW! this is simply amazing. i love specially the lighting schemes and the color palette. Using the "abstract nature" they achieve to create a some kind of magic enviroment. I love this demo what else can i say. It is hard to impress an old scener but man, this prod is imho superb.
Chill&Relax pur!
this is.... everything.... this is all.... me... and everyone... its us and we participate in the scene. we are a gatherin. we wont be forgotten, we just start. with the popular creativity scene, the trendy ones, it and we alter the dimension people realize their world and shift them to new perspectives long forgotten
Still, in my view the c64 demo scene, which started the scene proper, has never been beat because the c64 is a benchmark itself by which demo standards are measured. I mean, when you look at something like Booze Design's Edge of Disgrace and you see the full-screen scaling part, you can figure out just how far they're pushing the hardware and in many case see clearly it's the programmers ingenuity and not the hardware's pixel power which is the star of the show.
Programmers have written tech demos since the dawn of programming.
These days the demo scene takes on new forms. Future crew now write the future mark benchmark suite, basically a tech demo which tells you how fast it went.
The Unigine benchmark is a tech demo of DirectX11. Microsoft have plenty of DX11 demos and Nvidia produce plenty of GPU demos.
What the true demo scene has that many tech demos lack though is that a great cnet demo is a work of art; a scientific one.
But source is 87.96MB to download. How come so big compared to the 64k of "The Product"? That's over 1000 times bigger but the graphics, although better, don't strike me as 1000 times better. I guess it is all the subtle stuff? Mist? Lighting?
@sqgl if you're looking for a correlation between size and quality, you're going to be sadly disappointed with many things in life.
The Product was generated media. While as the filesize in Rove is pretty steep, the scenes are pretty highly detailed so i'd imagine a lot of the space went to high res textures and HDRI's for the bloom effects-- not to mention if the soundtrack didn't use a synthesizer, there goes more space depending on quality, since 8mins of high quality audio is costly.
@mogstah Most of the size was the animated meshes. They (Farbrausch) have gone on record as saying they are no longer focusing on size optimization, because they believe that the accuracy they got with those hand-made meshes can not be replicated with procedural work.
Personally, I'm not convinced but they are the ones with over ten years of experience in that kind of work not me.
Debris was their procedural masterwork. So I am eagerly waiting to see what they will do now.
Can't believe it's already been almost 10 years since The.Product.. 10 years of amazing FR releases. Everyone saying that the scene is dead is sorely mistaken- It's things like this showing that they're still trying to push the envelope. While as it's not as groundbreaking as demos used to be, I still find myself completely enamored by the sheer beauty these releases are able to exhibit. If you want tech demos, go to a trade show or fire up something from the "golden" days - I for one respect FR
Absolutely incredible soundtrack... it really warms my heart to see that Wayfinder is still creating such great things after all these years. The rest of the demo was very good too!
The sheer fact that people keep saying "the scene is dead" and every year it keeps releasing new stuff just highlights that it isn't dead and isn't even close.
Breakpoint is gone, but then Mekka and Symposium dissapeared as well and so did The Party, Next year just means a new group will create a new event, unless you want to make it a self fulfilling prophecy by doing nothing about it.
Rove was boring? Random spline primitive that slowly morphed into a living breathing world? Awesome.
@lordbaztard I'd tell them if they said oh that's old or dead.. i'd be like and? your point? who cares if you think that, i love it and always will lol i say most ppl are stupid thinking you have to like what they do, they won't say that specifically but will tell you in-between their words if they dont get they are saying it or not 8D
@lordbaztard Since hardware manufacturers are today keen to launch their own tech-demos I think the scene has lost a bit of its purpose to them. Also, the old rules of pushing back the boundaries of the hardware have lost a bit of ground since modern hardware, with over 1Billion poly's per second, no longer has any practical boundaries. However, demo writers can always hit back with new ideas, design and originality.
@vapourmile I wouldn't say that there are no more boundaries - just that a day's boundaries are overcome by new hardware within months, making it impossible for programmers to cope with.
@tarmilaweck Except that the demoscene is supposed to work within constraints not within the realm of latest hardware developments so keeping up shouldn't be a problem because you are only keeping up with a minimum requirement or at least that's how it should be to test the talent's as they are within the Amiga and C64 demo's.
@blade004 Yeah it's somewhat different in the PC scene. There are demos working within size constraints (mainly 4k and 64k) and demos without constraints which are often more oriented towards artistic qualities. But constraints related to the machine's power are much less important (though the mandelbulb in Rove or particles in the latest Fairlights did need a lot of optimization!)
Many PC programmers also code for an "old-school" platform precisely because they miss these constraints :)
@probbarn I don't think it was boring, just subdued, and it carries the weight of being the final breakpoint demo shown. The music, in particular, captures the emotion of the event.
