@AmazingTone A camera mic will have it's own built in compression and thus pickup more ambient noise in the room. Noise levels also very from one guitar to the next. Thanks for watching!
@Aparashi - Under normal circumstances you'd probably want it in front of the amp, but there's not really a right or wrong way to do it. Feel free to experiment. Thanks for watching.
That sounds like Rox 'my baby left me'. I'm trying to nail that Big Star sound of heavy compression, but I don't want to be stuck with a one trick pony pedal; it would be good to have it able to be transparent, chicken pickin worthy, and heavy comp for that jangle of rickenbackers. Think I might go with the Keeley 4 knob.
@Aparashi Compressors add sustain and level out dynamics. Really no more than that. They knock the peak off of the attack and add that energy back to the decay of the note. End result "flatter" dynamics and longer sustain. They can smooth out obnoxious ear-piercing sounds like a really bright tele. They can also help you control your overall volume in a mix. Overdo it though, and everything sounds lifeless.
@moucon Ah, I see. I guess I remain mystified because the first time I tried to use one was like 20 years ago, when I first started playing. My gear was crap so I probably didn't notice anything changing. Plus it was a Boss compressor. I know some people like that one but I wasn't impressed.
How Long Do I Have To Wait - killer demo!

Where is it best to use a compressor - in front of the amp or in its FX loop?

Didn't realize you guys were based in Oregon. No wonder you guys kick ass. When I get back to Eugene, I'll have to make the short drive to PGS.

at 3:24 you realise that he played with the volume back and then hit the last chord after turning the volume all the way up. sneaky

I still don't really get what I'm supposed to use a compressor for.

@simmy403 You'd be surprised what a difference a good compressor can make in your tone, and how much a sucky one can screw it up.
doctorgone 1 year ago
@simmy403 For real. At least the Philosophers Tone does the infinite sustain thing and has some clipping diodes for a little bit of grit.
That being said, this is a very nice sounding pedal.
