I don't think I like this performance much. The lovely piercing chromatic clash at 1:47 that I was looking forward to just wasn't there... And why are there so many performers? For madrigals like this, there should be no more than 2 singers per part, max...
I LOVE Renaissance music, and the crunchy chromaticism of his oeuvre reminds us to be grateful that we're not Gesualdo. Beautiful music, but person? Beautiful on the outside, maybe?
This is my favourite madrigal of all-time (love Monterverdi and Marenzio, but something has to be a favourite).
To the poster (thanks for posting, btw): are they singing in a contemporary temperament, or is my allergy medicine mucking up my hearing?
they should do 'musica ficta'(Bb instead of B) at measure 26 ( 1:50)... to create that tension just before the lyrycs says: 'Morto fui'
anyways... its cool that they're singing this madrigals this time...
