  • Love your videos. Just did the EGR and Oil Coolers. Ran a pressure test attached to my degas to see if the head gasket was blown or leaking. The psi never went over 9. Is that about the normal pressure? How much of the VC9 do you use to clean and flush the cooling system? Do you pull the thermostat? Thanks again for all your time and effert with these videos. I'm turning into a part time Mechanic... wish I woiuld have picked it up earlier in life.

  • @Oilmanhenry

Thanks for your comment & support! To run the pressure test, you want to drive the engine on a hard acceleration with a heavy load. This is when the pressure will build. 9 psi is about the highest you will see under normal driving conditions. Under the heavy load acceleration, pressure should peak at about 12 to 14 psi at the end of the hard acceleration. I use just 1 qt of the VC9, and I do remove the t/stat.

  • What is your opinion on the use of studs on the head vs bolts?

  • @csargent1975

Head studs are the only way to go. It is harder to see someone $700 just for the studs, but it's worth it to me and they hold up a lot better!

  • How did he manage to not bend a rod or crack a piston by hydro locking it.

  • @grasscutter88

The 6.0 liter is pretty tough and can withstand a hydro-lock condition. The bottom end is tougher than a 6.4 liter!

  • I like the way you tell the whole story, Rusty, from delivery by trailer through diagnosis - great stuff, thanks.

btw.. what is this truck used for to put 330k miles on in 3 1/2 years? might be my next career...

  • @MikesFitnessGoals

    Thanks for the great comment!

This truck is used for a over the road hauler pulling trailers fill with whatever fits!

  • how much can a master tech make

  • @mwd92 With the economy its hard to calculate. It also depends on where you live. As a Master, with the years of experience, 60K to 100K a year is enough to survive, but you don't get rich. We just do it cause we love it!

  • @srmastertech how long does it take to become a master tech

  • Nice..... No VC-9 ??? I'm so tired of FORD WARRANTY BULLSHIT and ford tsb 09-08-03. I need to open up my OWN shop. Oh btw ford just posted another 2.3 billion dollars profit last quarter. They must be ripping off the labor from the techs. Ford is trying to close more shops in my area with fake ass 126 reports. I have loss all respect fro ford.

  • @joediesel187 I still use VC9, just cause I like the additional 3 hour flush. I'm thinking about heading back to the dealer. I need the insurance! I've heard of their cut backs and they will never stop.
