i am thinking of buying it, but i have a few questions. is pdf support good, i need it for it books, will i be able to see all the small print? Is the reflection a big problem, and can u copy bookmarks on ordinary computor (comments that u can write directly on sony)
@CalmPitBull which model are you talking about? ;) and in any case, bookmarks and notes can only be synced if you use Sony's book management software (which s*cks).
@CalmPitBull Why are you looking at an old model? PRS-650 and PRS-350 are out now, both with touchscreen, and people say they have considerably less glare. But you are better off going to Sony store and looking yourself of course.
@throble Is black flash between pages horribly annoying or is it something you adjusted to pretty quickly? I haven't seen others complain about it. maybe it just seems like it would be an issue on the videos. I'm probably making to much of it.
@Aislan4414 it never seem like an issue to me. I never paid any attention to it. But you may want to wait with purchase, and see check out new devices (coming in Q4 2010) on colour 'e-ink' - Mirasol from Qualcomm.
I went and looked at the PRS 600 and 300 in person. I really liked the 300 screen, but it is too small plus it has no memory slots. The 600 is nice but it is not as sharp. I just bought the 505 on ebay and I love it. They shouldn't have discontinued it.
i'm going to buy the 600, i like the 505 a lot but they don't sell them at target anymore so i wouldn't be able to get my 10% discount. yeah the 600 has some drawbacks but i will learn to cope.
does anyone know if they make those book looking cases out of something other then leather? i really disagree with leather and will buy anything else.
The 505 is the cream of e-readers. Unfortunately Sony has stopped making them. I don't know why they aren't being sold alongside the 300 and 600; not everyone wants a touch screen nor the small reading area of the 300. Also, there's no SD slot in the 300.
touchscreen is awesome for notes, highlighting, underlining, if you have any need for that sort of thing. I've not tried a 505, but I will concur there is some reflection (not glare) from the 600, and the position in which you hold it relative to light is important.
To me the glare is visible and somewhat distracting on all three readers. The 600 isn't much worse than the others. Also, the display of the 300 is really small. That's unfortunate because it has a much nicer design than the 505. Considering they have both the same price tag of 199€ I would take the 505 over the 300. I still prefer the 600, though.
Thanks for the video! Very helpful - I decided to buy a 505 after seeing this. I'm a college student and carry a backpack everywhere. The 505's larger body is not a concern, while the lesser contrast/increased reflections kills it for the 600.
I'd highly recommend a 505. From my experience and from reading that of others, you won't regret your purchase when you go with a Sony PRS, regardless of the model. Great job Sony! and yes, ebooks have a ways to go, thanks to DRM content providers.
I highly agree. The PRS-505 might have an extra inch of display, but it's pointless to pay over $50 more than the 300 just to get that extra 1". Of course, you might not have the SD card slot on the 300, but for the casual reader/early tech adopter, it's excellent. Ebook readers have some way to go before they are widespread.

I would be glad if u would answer my questions

Do all eReaders flash a black screen between page switching?
Aislan4414 1 year ago
@Aislan4414 all E-Ink readers do, as far as I know. What's the problem with that? )

The 300 is awesome! It comes with a little neoprene case so those leather ones are not needed. FREE books on google!!! I love mine, it's pink!

My gripe with the PRS-505 is that the processor is very slow making PDF viewing very slow.

so how did you find it?? is it really disturbing to the eye?? is the size proper? i mean like a book...

Thanks for finding this, this really give an idea of the PRS-300 against the PRS-505, at least screenwise.

In case anyone's wondering, I personally decided to get myself a dark-blue PRS-505.
I'm am judging PRS-600 not just by this video, but by the other one posted on Flickr and a bunch of side-by-side pictures available in the Internet.

would you recommend the 505?
mrpaul94 2 years ago
Yes, it's a great device! But mind you, I still haven't seen PRS-600 live.
inf0rmale 2 years ago
Damn. How did you get a hold of these in Moscow, and especially so soon?
Zydraca 2 years ago
It's not my video. All leaked images and videos of these devices discoverable in the internet are probably from Canada.

Is the 300 any faster than the 505?
I might go with the 505 for its high contrast and slightly bigger screen size.
region1111 2 years ago
The screen on the 600 looks awful! Can't you play with the contrast settings or something? Thanks for the video.
