while you can plug it in with a bit of force. Not a good idea as the appliance is then not earthed. as there is nothing to connect the center pin of the socket with the outer contact of the plug

@exposed97 Because US/Canada plug was specifically designed for 110 volts at 60 cycles. Japan 100v at 50/60 cycles, Europe uses 220v at 50 cycles.

Why can't italians have same sockets like the rest of west europe? It's like France and their SECAM because PAL is too easy to have instedd.

@blajsad Many european countries have different sockets. E.g. France, UK, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Spain, .... but the voltage is the same (230 V).
