Took my 93yr old Dad, Son & Son-in-law on B-24 flight in 2010. Was great, Dad's face really lit up when he realized why we flew him to AZ from NC. He piloted a B-24 in the 15th AF, this was the first time since late 1945 he'd been in one!

I swear you will never see a plane as beautiful as any plane from WWII. Now a days all we have are jets that just shoot missiles that rarely miss their target, and they all look exactly the same. This was truly the golden age of planes, and I wish it would return.
You can get yourself a flight in either a B-17 or B-24 at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston, TX or just climb inside on the flight line and check them out.

I actually went in side of that b-17 because it flew into seattle at the museum of flight! also saw the b-24 liberator and the p-51 mustang! planes are my world and going into the b-17 felt as if i was there in the war!
The '24' is definitely my favorite of the planes. Of the 3 its also the most fun to fly in. More places to run around and poke your nose in. My guess is this is them flying out and relocating to the next stop of their tour. Notice the order. 17, 24, then 25. Often the slower will leave first followed by the faster planes, so that they all arrive roughly at the same time. ~_^
Ahh i just can't get enough of these good ol' warbirds. I was at the Planes of Fame Air show in Chino, California yesterday. It's said to be the largest assembly of flyable WWII aircraft in the world. I saw 28 warbirds go up at once. Seventy years after these planes were made, that's a helluva sight.
The airport by my house does "War Bird Tours" and I have a B-17 fly over my house EVERY single Day. I just sit in my back yard and watch most of the time. Ha ha
@Avatar230594 I actually got a schedule of when it flies over. It flies over at about 10 am, then again at about 3 pm. They do two flights a day for the people. Of coarse, I would pay but its $500 bucks a flight. Its TERRIBLE HA ha
2 of the best planes ever made.......................................when people hurd them coming in the night it must of been one hell of a feeling. mind blowing.
Outstanding! there's something about a radial engine's prop turning, then coughing, sputtering, belching blue smoke, and roaring into life that has always stirred me. Thanks for this great video!
Love all that smoke-belching at start-up. And who could not find the thunder of a WWII bomber taking off the sweetest music this side of Glenn Miller? Round engines forever!
Ok relating to my other comment. There's a difference between a girl and one of these. One is so expensive takes years to get to know and love u get to ride it occasionally. It's really old and yet it pays off in some ways. I t maybe noisy and slow at times. It's got a beautiful sleek long body and sexy face. The other is a plane

I think the reason why they slowly spin the propellers by hand like that is to pump the pistons a bit and make sure the engine has enough fresh oil being spread around in there. It tends to settle to the bottom when the plane sits dormant for a long time.
Wow! Watching that clip gave me goosebumps. Imagine all those historic aircraft reving up at the same time, same place. Too good to be true. Regards to all aviation buffs out there and thanks for posting!

cool video, im hopefully gonna get to ride in one of the commemrative air-forces B-24s. Also my brother got to work on a B-25 when he was in an aviation tech class, well it was mostly changing oil, but still cool
they wouldn't scramble bombers while under attack, they would just provide free target practice for the attacking planes. not worth the trouble for the very remote chance you might save one.
My gosh, just imagine back 60 years ago when an event like this was common... it would have been amazing to watch- it would have been hectic, seeing all of those planes scramble- sometimes under attack... gives me shivers...
Don't pay any attention to negative comments like WMurder and carpenter. Just enjoy the moment. The entire video was wonderful and just goes to prove real airplanes have propellers and radial engines. Thanks alot.
You really need to work on your cameraman skills cause if you want to make a vid of a plane or heli starting you have to focus on the engine/ rotors not the pilots.
Well, actually, I read somewhere that there is another B-29 that can possibly fly again, "Doc," I believe. Problem is, the funds that were being spent to restore Doc ran out
DID YOU KNOW: They didn't call the B-17 the flying fortress for nothing...it was armed with a whopping 13 .50 caliber machine guns. And there was good reason: When it entered service in the 1930s, and pretty much throughout WWII, there were no fighters designed to match its range of about 1,850 miles. For example, the P-40 Warhawk only had a range of about 950 miles, or 350 miles, depending on the model, the F4F Wildcat only had a range of about 845 miles, and the P-43 Lancer, about 800 miles

I once assisted in dipping the tanks on that B-17, and it is a small, personal thrill to know that my handwriting is in its logbook.

My Grandad was a radio operator on a B-24 in the South Pacific during WWII 1943-1944. Those guys are all heroes of the free world.

they wouldn't scramble bombers while under attack, they would just provide free target practice for the attacking planes. not worth the trouble for the very remote chance you might save one.
fakiir 2 years ago
My gosh, just imagine back 60 years ago when an event like this was common... it would have been amazing to watch- it would have been hectic, seeing all of those planes scramble- sometimes under attack... gives me shivers...

That is too cool ! I love all WWII warplanes, the sound of the engines gave me goosebumps.
malden86 2 years ago
I wouldn't like to have to crank the engines on those planes

These planes are at Monroe. I would never have the courage. Please take your vids and stick them up.

Nothing like the roar of the engines of a Fortress!!!!
Rhuadhan1 2 years ago
@Rhuadhan1 i do believe the roaring engines of a lanc/hurc/spit are better sounding.
clothierben 2 years ago
Nothing wrong with the roaring engines of a Lancaster, Hurricane or a Spitfire...
To me the flyboys - no matter where they came from - did their damnest to free
us from the krauts along with all the other Allied Forces.

I always loved these aircraft as a kid thanks for sharing.

I concur on this. Sweet planes, but the camera work...maybe a little less with the zoom controls?

Only thing missing was the B26. WW2 air power in its purest form! Beautiful guys just beautiful.

What about the B-29?
frankydman 2 years ago
I think, if I'm not mistaken, that there is only 1 flyable B-29 left. Sad.
Caterpillarjon 2 years ago
Well, not exactly. There is one AIRWORTHY, meaning able to fly B-29. And its nickname is Fifi
frankydman 2 years ago
Yeah, Fifi that was the one I was trying to think of. I saw a show on tv that featured it and said that it was the only one left flying.
Caterpillarjon 2 years ago
Well, actually, I read somewhere that there is another B-29 that can possibly fly again, "Doc," I believe. Problem is, the funds that were being spent to restore Doc ran out

The sound of FREEDOM!!!
