  • Took my 93yr old Dad, Son & Son-in-law on B-24 flight in 2010. Was great, Dad's face really lit up when he realized why we flew him to AZ from NC. He piloted a B-24 in the 15th AF, this was the first time since late 1945 he'd been in one!

Then we went and played golf and he won...

  • 6:28 and on the sounds of the bombers engines is music to my ears

  • nothing gets me hard like ww2 era planes

  • True queens of the skies. My flight in the 909 I'll never forget :)

  • My Grandfather was stationed in England. He worked on B-17s. He loved em. He moved onto working with B-29s in the Korean war. Didn't really like em.

  • ladies and gentlemen, badass American Airpower!

  • wasn't the B-25 more of a fighter bomber?

  • you can get flights on the planes collins foundation goes around the country awsome flights

  • wow, but will it blend?

  • Oh my god...i love B-24 more,than my girlfriend <3 I want have her (B-24) :)

  • @ianHTX i am one jealous bastard. All my life, since a boy.. Movies,models,doco's.. The lot, iv dreamt of seeing/hearing a b17 in the flesh... And for u.. A daily occurence.. U must live in britain.. Or arizona(sentimental journey) in the US.. Thats were the last of them live.. Last i heard.. Right/wrong??

  • I love the Liberator because of its trike config

  • OMG that sounds good

  • That is such a beautiful sight. And sound.

  • MY BABIES!!!

  • I swear you will never see a plane as beautiful as any plane from WWII. Now a days all we have are jets that just shoot missiles that rarely miss their target, and they all look exactly the same. This was truly the golden age of planes, and I wish it would return.

  • Big dogs in the yard

  • IMPRESIONANTE!!!!!!!!!!. QUE MARAVILLA DE PAJAROS.

  • This is one badass video. So cool you can catch that in person. The history is world renown.

  • That is beautiful. Imagine the guts it took to do what they did in those.

  • nothings better than the sound and roar of those engines

  • I heard that sentimental journey had crashed

  • The sound of a B-17 taking off is awesome!!!

  • We are the "Texas Raiders" taking a "Sentimental Journey" in this "Aluminum Overcast" to see the "Liberty Belle"

All those are flyable B-17s except "Liberty Belle" is no more

  • Nice looking video.

    On 8 Jul 2011 I took a 2 hour flight on the B-24.

    Pictures of flight are at

    home.comcast.net/~ray80538/b24/b24.html

  • that must have been something to see back in the day

  • You can get yourself a flight in either a B-17 or B-24 at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston, TX or just climb inside on the flight line and check them out.

  • We went to Republic Fields, L.I. from England to fly on Witchraft in 2009 - FANTASTIC PLANE!! See my B24 Liberator Beast of Bourbon Memorial 36 BS "The Gremlins" 7/5/11 England

  • We went to Republic Fields, L.I. from England to fly on Witchraft in 2009 - FANTASTIC PLANE!! See my B24 Liberator Beast of Bourbon Memorial 36 BS "The Gremlins" 7/5/11 England

  • One of the biggest injustices is that I live in the jet age (yukk!!!!!!!!!!)

  • I Love The b17

  • lol on the B-25 startup it looks like he pulled the start switch on the wrong engine first... but the noise... that beautiful... racket!!!!

  • I actually went in side of that b-17 because it flew into seattle at the museum of flight! also saw the b-24 liberator and the p-51 mustang! planes are my world and going into the b-17 felt as if i was there in the war!

  • The '24' is definitely my favorite of the planes. Of the 3 its also the most fun to fly in. More places to run around and poke your nose in. My guess is this is them flying out and relocating to the next stop of their tour. Notice the order. 17, 24, then 25. Often the slower will leave first followed by the faster planes, so that they all arrive roughly at the same time. ~_^

  • Ahh i just can't get enough of these good ol' warbirds. I was at the Planes of Fame Air show in Chino, California yesterday. It's said to be the largest assembly of flyable WWII aircraft in the world. I saw 28 warbirds go up at once. Seventy years after these planes were made, that's a helluva sight.

  • God I love the sound of those engines.

  • Is the B-24's nose landing gear flat?

  • 3 Magnifecent WWII bombers........No Doubt

  • The airport by my house does "War Bird Tours" and I have a B-17 fly over my house EVERY single Day. I just sit in my back yard and watch most of the time. Ha ha

  • @IanHTX can we trade houses?

  • @Avatar230594 You can come visit, Ha ha

  • @IanHTX What time does it fly over?

  • @Avatar230594 I actually got a schedule of when it flies over. It flies over at about 10 am, then again at about 3 pm. They do two flights a day for the people. Of coarse, I would pay but its $500 bucks a flight. Its TERRIBLE HA ha

  • 2 of the best planes ever made.......................................when people hurd them coming in the night it must of been one hell of a feeling. mind blowing.

  • Outstanding! there's something about a radial engine's prop turning, then coughing, sputtering, belching blue smoke, and roaring into life that has always stirred me. Thanks for this great video!

  • Love all that smoke-belching at start-up. And who could not find the thunder of a WWII bomber taking off the sweetest music this side of Glenn Miller? Round engines forever!

  • The cost of running these great airplanes would be well above any amount the average non-millionaire could muster...Just wonderful airplanes...

  • I Love this Planes ! would like to work on it to keep them forever.

  • if i could go back in time and do anything, id be in the 8th air force in 1943. i would die happy

  • love the sound of radial engines =)

  • Ok relating to my other comment. There's a difference between a girl and one of these. One is so expensive takes years to get to know and love u get to ride it occasionally. It's really old and yet it pays off in some ways. I t maybe noisy and slow at times. It's got a beautiful sleek long body and sexy face. The other is a plane

  • @Avatar230594 Well said, Sir! Regarding the original comment, the only thing that makes it better is when there's a nekkid girl painted on the plane!

  • my grandpa piloted a b-25 over münich

  • Cool I got to go inside a B17 and B24 when I was in 5th grade. Mom snuck me out of school and we went to the airport and BAM. It was so awesome.

  • this goes against my beliefs of making jokes about the dislike bar but the opportunity is free. 5 people lived in Berlin

  • @Avatar230594 I'm in tears laughing so hard! Well done sir.

  • @Drew99GT thankyou?

  • @Avatar230594 or they just might be pacificists

  • @crazyrice33 That too.

  • @Avatar230594 or tokyo

  • classic girls

  • No sound like it in the world.

    Beautiful.

  • cool video, my uncle was in a B-17 over Berlin

  • @Halo56691

And my grandma was at the bottom i a cellar...but no bad feelings. I love these migthy birds as well and my last passanger flight had been in a Harvard T6. Our geeneration can enjoy the sond and sight ...and relax.

  • Beautiful....just beautiful....

  • They turned the props backward before starting the engines to get the oil out of the bottom cylinders, because it seeped down there while the engines sat idle. Leaving the oil down there and trying to start the engine would blow the cylinder or cyl. head off.

In the WWII videos you always see the crews turning the props backward before a flight.

It took real guts, true grit, to fly these bombers. This great video honors those great men of WWII. That was truly the Greatest Generation.

  • cool

  • Those propellers are made by hand in only a few workshops scattered across the US. They are so finely tuned and balanced that the slightest defect can throw the radial engines off balance and make them literally rip themselves apart from the inside.

  • I think the reason why they slowly spin the propellers by hand like that is to pump the pistons a bit and make sure the engine has enough fresh oil being spread around in there. It tends to settle to the bottom when the plane sits dormant for a long time.

  • Wow! Watching that clip gave me goosebumps. Imagine all those historic aircraft reving up at the same time, same place. Too good to be true. Regards to all aviation buffs out there and thanks for posting!

  • There is no doubt that the B17 was the queen. She went where nobody should have gone. Had the far more delicate B24 been deployed in the early days of the war in Europe losses of planes and men would have been higher. But the B-25 was the unchallenged knight, going where nobody else could go.

  • This is just freaking aousome

  • This WAS America, when Men still had balls and were not washed up puffies and washed down by political correctness. That is why they made an impact in Europe at the time. We really could use some of that attitude these days here...

  • @Hoffmanngerhard I agree. Look up Zeitgeist Addendum

  • Previous post was slighty inaccurate...correction:

Experience the thrill of historic aviation in four legendary aircraft from the World War II era. The Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston, Texas is now offering bomber and trainer flight experiences in its B-17 Flying Fortress, B-25 Mitchell, T-6 Texan and PT-17 Stearman

  • B-24's were built by the Ford Motor Co. Ground crews called them fix or repair daily! The high aspect wing on them was the sign of wings to come and some variation of that original wing is used today on all commerical jets. The B-29 used the same wing design!

  • there is something magical about this video

  • IS IT POSSIBLE TO RIDE IN ONE? SOMEONE PLEASE RESPOND:)

  • @jwjwjwjwjwjwjwjjwjwj You can get a ride in either a B-24 or a B-17 in Galveston, Texas.

    Lone Star Flight Museum.

  • @jwjwjwjwjwjwjwjjwjwj The Collings Foundation tours the country with these planes. Search "Wings of Freedom Tour" and you should find the info you need to see them at an airport near you. The B17 is the more "luxurious" of the 4 engine jobs, well engineered and tight. The B24 is slapped together and drafty but an even more visceral experience than the B17. It costs $425 for a half-hour in the B17, B24 and in the nose of the B25 while only $375 in the back 1/2 of the B25. More than worth it!

  • Gorgeous. Would love to have been there.

  • Wow..didn't know a Liberator was still flying!

  • @edj66 theres 2 that are still flying. one the Commerative B-24A the only A model that still flys, is based in Dallas and Collings Foundatiion Flys the second flyable one

  • I wanna see the b-24 and p-15 in real life (take off/ startup)

  • We still remember The Mighty 8th!

  • Excellent!! Lady Yucca looks great as always!!

  • here you can find the b17 flight manual flightmanuals.yolasite.com

  • nice video

  • nice video

  • my grandpa flew all of these in the war

  • I love the B17

  • Ah American engines .... they'er awesome !!

  • I posted a video response.

  • ahh, the sound of Wright Cyclones in the morning.

  • (apart from a girl) Have you ever seen a more beautiful sight

  • @Avatar230594 also, the sound a woman makes can't compare :)

  • @danielrunyon So very true

  • @Avatar230594

This is more beautiful then any girls I ever seen.

Because in all my time flying i've never had an airplane cheat on me, lie to me, complain to me, or treat me like crap. I would trade time with any girl for the oppurtunity to take the controls of any of theese big old birds, even just for 5 minutes. This isen't a Cessna were talking about here, the B-17 is a plane I always dreamed about flying I even have a b-17 mouse pad. :-p

  • @thewhistler

also I would even say that about the B-25 and 24 in the video.

    :-P

  • @Avatar230594 There are many beautiful things in this world...

  • @Avatar230594 If i was a millionaire, i would have my very own warbird collection

  • @Avatar230594 ya ihe in side

  • @Avatar230594 the only thing better is a beautiful girl IN A B-17! Or a 25, 24 oh heck, even a Martin B-26...

  • @Avatar230594 American power at its best

  • @mixxmexx aye

  • i live near the collings foundation.

  • Thanks for posting!!! Just love them!!!

  • @joerisoldier what are you talking about?? the wheels was under the wings here

  • Toooo Bloody noisey, that hurt my ears!

  • Sound of freedom boys!!!

  • I was aboard both these planes yesterday at the Tacaoma International Airport in Gig Harbor, WA.

My Grandfather also flew aboard B-24's as a tailgunner. He later trained aboard B-17's to then go on as a Navigator aboard B-29's.

He flew the very last mission over Japan, wiping out their remaining oil reserves.

My grandfather is still kickin it at the age of 90.

  • lol i was thinking about going to this cost 425$ to ride in it for 30 minutes or the p-51 cost 2200$ for half an hour

  • BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SEVEEEEEENNTTEEN BAWWWWWWWWWWWMMEERR

  • @Jason9992fromroblox Man! I used to love that game back in the day!! Intellivsion FTW!

  • @GTORazor lol :D

  • Like galaxiex1500 said dont listen to the little buggers that know they cant hold the camera as stead as you that includes me. you got more action than others would not have and thats a plus when it come to these video posts goin' above and beyond the title of the video. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

  • i love propeller planes

  • b-17 god that is a good plane its slow but very affective

  • Great Video!! Thanks for sharing! wish Central California still gathering of the warbirds!

  • my Grandad was on a B-25 in Pacific WWII

  • i love the sound of the b-25's short stack engines.

  • Worldwar 2!!

  • GREAT sounds and nice paints on these warbirds.

  • the b-17 had mo dakka than the rest

  • The last playboy, dominican Porfirio Rubirosa had two B25 gifted by his ex millonaire wives Barbara Hutton and Daniel Darrieux. Mexican actor Pedro Infante died in his B24, his second accident. Machos love these machines.

  • What were the names of these aircraft?

No, not B-17 or Flying Fortress, I mean, what were the nicknames given to them on the side of the planes?

  • I am not sure about these warbirds, but often restored aircraft are given the name and accurate paint in dedication of other, more famous planes. Many of the planes still flying were built in '45 and never saw action. Nearly all planes were scrapped but ones in good condition were used for commercial flights, search & rescue, and the like after the war.

  • cool , but what was with the gear of the b-17?

  • yeah you cant beat the popop vroom of a radial

  • I love the sound of Merlins in the Lanc and the Spit, but you can't beat the sound of big radials at full chat! The harmonies created are to interesting to ignore. Long live roundies!!!

  • Thanks for posting this great footage! These three warbirds have been to our local airport (Johnstown, PA) twice, what an unforgettable sound!

  • SIMPLISMENTE MARAVILHOSO.......

  • leave the polotics out this video is awesome

  • cool video, im hopefully gonna get to ride in one of the commemrative air-forces B-24s. Also my brother got to work on a B-25 when he was in an aviation tech class, well it was mostly changing oil, but still cool

  • Nice video

  • Man that was cool.

  • I once assisted in dipping the tanks on that B-17, and it is a small, personal thrill to know that my handwriting is in its logbook.

  • My Grandad was a radio operator on a B-24 in the South Pacific during WWII 1943-1944. Those guys are all heroes of the free world.

  • they wouldn't scramble bombers while under attack, they would just provide free target practice for the attacking planes. not worth the trouble for the very remote chance you might save one.

  • My gosh, just imagine back 60 years ago when an event like this was common... it would have been amazing to watch- it would have been hectic, seeing all of those planes scramble- sometimes under attack... gives me shivers...

  • That is too cool ! I love all WWII warplanes, the sound of the engines gave me goosebumps.

  • I wouldn't like to have to crank the engines on those planes

  • These planes are at Monroe. I would never have the courage. Please take your vids and stick them up.

  • this plane was just at my local airport yesterday, i got videos.

  • Nothing like the roar of the engines of a Fortress!!!!

  • @Rhuadhan1 i do believe the roaring engines of a lanc/hurc/spit are better sounding.

  • Nothing wrong with the roaring engines of a Lancaster, Hurricane or a Spitfire...

To me the flyboys - no matter where they came from - did their damnest to free

us from the krauts along with all the other Allied Forces.

  • I always loved these aircraft as a kid thanks for sharing.

  • A man. A Woman.

    Oh Well.

  • i saw that B25 flying over the ginkelse heide in ede, netherlands on the 20th of september this year

  • Don't pay any attention to negative comments like WMurder and carpenter. Just enjoy the moment. The entire video was wonderful and just goes to prove real airplanes have propellers and radial engines. Thanks alot.

  • I concur on this. Sweet planes, but the camera work...maybe a little less with the zoom controls?

  • i love these planes, but that guy at 0:38, thats were id want to stand, lol

  • I reconize that ramp because I have landed there several times. Astoria is a cool airport. Wish these lovely birds where there more!

  • These guys just departed Sheboygan WI today! Except the B-25 instead they had a P-51 Mustang, it did some nice low passes!

  • my dads knows the guy thats does this

  • imagine what soldiers had to go thru when they had to do bombings and when they where getting shot at by other planes.

  • Only thing missing was the B26. WW2 air power in its purest form! Beautiful guys just beautiful.

  • What about the B-29?

  • I think, if I'm not mistaken, that there is only 1 flyable B-29 left. Sad.

  • Well, not exactly. There is one AIRWORTHY, meaning able to fly B-29. And its nickname is Fifi

  • Yeah, Fifi that was the one I was trying to think of. I saw a show on tv that featured it and said that it was the only one left flying.

  • Well, actually, I read somewhere that there is another B-29 that can possibly fly again, "Doc," I believe. Problem is, the funds that were being spent to restore Doc ran out

  • The sound of FREEDOM!!!

  • DID YOU KNOW: They didn't call the B-17 the flying fortress for nothing...it was armed with a whopping 13 .50 caliber machine guns. And there was good reason: When it entered service in the 1930s, and pretty much throughout WWII, there were no fighters designed to match its range of about 1,850 miles. For example, the P-40 Warhawk only had a range of about 950 miles, or 350 miles, depending on the model, the F4F Wildcat only had a range of about 845 miles, and the P-43 Lancer, about 800 miles

  • Incredible sound of power

  • Today I got to go inside both of thses planes at Livermore, CA 2009 Same exact planes in the vid. They were amazing!

  • FUCKING NICE SOUND!!!!!

  • should i fly in the b-24 or b-17?

  • b-17

  • Amazing! I have seen only the B25 Mitchell. But the noise of the things is lovely!

  • Man these are so Beastly

  • i got to ride in the B-17 for $400 when it came to Orange County Airport in NY

  • 3 of the greatest planes in aviation history won WW2

  • the B 17 is one of the most beautiful airplanes that have ever bin made

  • The Collings Foundation planes are absolutely beautiful and a thrill to fly in!

  • One of my dad's uncle's was a B-24 tail gunner and chin gunner! And my dad has some photos
