First off, the different races aren't all that bad, IMO. And, of course, the Hume race has males & females! But, if you want a romantic love story FF, then play FFX! But on another note, the voice acting is fabulous! And I just love Fran, Balthier and the Viera. Seriously FFXII has some of the more interesting characters of all the series. And I love/resent the fact that not much is revealed about all of the characters. Mystery, mystery!

Really? I'm playing the Japanese version, and watching the cutscenes on youtube, I'm really dissapointed with the translation and the voice acting, especially with Fran. They changed her so much, half her lines barely make sense, and I think the false-foreign accent they've given her is a stilted caricature. I think they did a great job localizing 10, but only so-so this time.

Because they always do. It's what they call the "international version"-- a way for them to make more money off an old title with minimal trouble. They did the same with 10 and 10-2 as well. Trust me, Japanese voice-acting is quite a few steps above the west in all areas, not just games. 80% of voice-acting in America is sub-par, done by people who might be good screen actors, but don't understand how to voice-act. FFXII isn't hopeless...

Balthier's father went mad because of the nethicite and even though he doesn't show it outwardly (through actions) his eyes tell Fran that he is worried about Ashe losing her heart to the nethicite. Fran is concerned because the nethicite makes her kind go berserk because of the mist. (this is as much for you as it is me.)
