  • I love you Bach!

  • Happy.

  • Thanks for sharing! I have the Bob van Asperen recording, which is similar to this one, and while I do like the straight-up cantata version, I appreciate that a couple of folks out there have completed reconstructions of BWV 1059 incorporating the fragment we do have with those 32nd-note runs--and syncopations! Now if only someone would PUBLISH this...I'm surprised Barenreiter hasn't done so already. Been thinking about arranging this myself for years.

  • ....... О Бах!.. . . .Мы Возродим Культуру!... Ты с Нами!

  • Wrong score--this is from the organ version, the sinfonia to Cantata BWV 35. BWV 1059 is what's playing, and the repeated note motive is transformed into runs.

  • @StevenShields29

Allegro(1st mov) - Concerto in D Minor BWV 1059R ("R" stands for reconstructed) for harpsichord by Johann Sebastian Bach. This piece is based on cantata BWV 35.

Music Score from BWV35 is shown. Greetings

  • @bussinez Actually, BWV 1059 is playing--including the first seven or eight bars, including the characteristic runs in place of the broken arpeggios of BWV 35/I.

  • @StevenShields29 Precisely 9 bars

  • Much prefer this to Cantata BWV 35 :)

  • perfect!

  • The best harpsichord concerto Bach never wrote.

  • @schlangemeister Never?

  • @Vesivian Yes, Bach only wrote the first 9 bars and then... Well... it is no longer Bach!

  • @Vesivian This is from Cantata BWV 35 as Bach only wrote 9 bars of this concerto.

  • there's a wonderful riff they play that i don't see in the music!!!

  • The recording varies from the score so much that it's hard to follow along.

  • i wish if i have a complete score for this BWV 1059 (not bwv 35)

  • The ritornello is the closest Bach ever came to sound like Albinoni...

  • @bersa888 I completely agree. I'm using the Oboe Concerto of this particular piece for an audition and as I listen to it again and again, I hear Albinoni in this piece quite a bit. Albinoni is my favorite composer.

  • Great! I have this cantata with Herreweghe and I didn't know about this concerto, until I heard this same version on the radio recently. I have two complete recordings of these concertos, with Pinnock and van Asperen/Leonhardt, but I think this concerto isn't included in any of those recordings. I used to own a Naxos CD with this an oboe concerto! The Herreweghe version is superb, with a propulsive rythm, and a precise organ playing. But this one is also great, Leonhardt never disappoints me.

  • Genius piece, but not a splendid performance or interpretation. This one sucks.

  • I thought that too, but my appreciation for it has grown.

    I love this interpretation.

  • A typical Gsutav Leonhardt performance

  • Sorry, I do not like that interpretation.

  • Good performance. The soloist demonstrated viruosity. However, I could have stood for a little more improvisation with the continuo line...
