  • Thank you

  • Wow, we were there from 1982-1985 and lived on Michigan St. I believe it was the first building on the third floor. My Husbands name is Roger Heslop and worked Ray Barracks Medical Clinic in the Lab.

  • Wow, these videos affected me more than I thought they would. My family was there from 1977-1980, we lived on Texas (don't know the building #, it was the 2nd stairwell building on the right as you headed up from the entrance. My name is John Grabowski, my older sister's name is Cathy. When we arrived I was halfway through the 5th grade, and we left in the middle of my 8th grade year (Giessen Jr. High).

  • Oh, damn! HOME!!! TWICE!!! Lived there 1965-67 (Michigan Rd.) and again 1974-77 (Georgia Rd.). I started school at Butzbach Elementary and graduated from FAHS. I understand the family of the old farmer the U.S. leased the property from rents the housing out to guest workers.

Achtlandd, I remember Betty, too. She was the last stop on the way up to the Schwimmbad. Rosie ran the other Imbiss and I used to stop at her place when I got off the bus.

  • So Sad! That was my home!

    Thanks for placing this here.

  • So Sad! That was my home!

  • I can't believe how this housing area had changed. I was there from 1981 to 1984. Back then there were no fences around the housing area and no gates. The trees and bushes were smaller, only sand pits for playground area with a couple of swings and a slide. No Pavilion. I remember playing football between the buildings. Thanks for shooting and posting this video. A Company 1/32 Armor. Kirchgones

  • just over whelming just to to re-live this

  • OMG I didn't know this was abandoned! I used to live there from 1999 to 2002! Soooo many memories!

  • was stationed at Schloss Kaserne from Nov 73 to Nov 77.

  • I went to Butzbach 2nd 3rd and 4th grade. We lived in Wetzlar from 85 to 88.

  • My husband and I lived at 8A Georgia Road! We loved living there and wished we could have stayed longer. Our second child was born in Giessen. We had great times and great memories. It is sad to see it the way it is now.

  • Happy New Year to you Roadking & thanks for these videos. I would love to go back to Butzbach, I hope they don't tear this place down before I do. I would like to take my parents & kids w/ me when I go back. I know my parents will enjoy seeing this place again ;-)

Auf Wiedersehn my friend...be safe & be well. I am sure we will talk again :-)

  • I feel the same way my Friend, attended Frankfurt High in late 60's, graduated there, learned all I should that made me the man I am today. I try to go back every 3 years, will return in 2010....

    Auf Wiedersehn

  • I cannot thank you Roadking for posting these 3 videos. This one (Part I) makes me cry, maybe it's the song that I do like, anyhow this brings back such sweet memories of my childhood, I never thought I would lay eyes on this place again. My dad was stationed here from 1978-1981, he extended 1 yr and we hated to leave. I went to school @ Butzbach my 1st (Ms. Gallagher was my teacher) & 2nd grade, 3rd grade I went to the Annex which was behind the DYA near the ballfield. I miss Butzbach :(

  • I was there in the 70's and 80's and didn't remember the gates....

  • WOW!! I lived there from 1975-1978. Thank you for posting this it brought back so many wonderful memories.

  • God this is so wierd. I lived in Roman Way in the late 80's. I would have been a grad of GHS in '94...but I was 11 when my father was stationed there, so naturally I only spent about 3 or 4 years there and went back to the states. Oh man...memories.

Abandoned eh? Wow. Strange feeling watching this...

  • i remember butzbach! i was there 1st- 3rd grade. left there in 1996. i remember the shopette, the "YS" which we called it. i remember the elementary school andeverything. i remember leaving leaving scgool and there be a stand right by the school that sold candy. best time of my life were at butzbach..its sad to see it abandoned now.

  • OMG!!! I'm glad someone has footage of my childhood haunts. LOL!!! I lived on Oregon right across the street from Butzbach Elem. and diagonally f rom the bratwurst stand a run by Betty!!! Wow, always thought I'd take my kids there one day. How sad to be abandonned like that.

  • What years did you have the good fortune of living there??

  • That is so very odd, in 1994-1996 when we where in Butzbach housing we had no gates of any kind.Everything was open at all times.

  • Post 9-11, everything changed with Gates and Access Control. We'll never have the carefree feeling that we all experienced in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Best Wishes to all that have enjoyed my videos and got at leat a little trip down memory lane.

    Butzbach über alles.......

The main road going up the hill is wherre i walked my girlfriend (german) soon shortly became my wife.

At the time there weren't that many grown trees. they were small twiggs..
