  • That clown is really fucked out there. I mean, 35.000 feet above sea leel, on a fucking rope that is snapping and a boeing that is about to hit him, Sick... He has some darn balls being photographed there just fore this album cover.

  • I think DT just plays long/fast/complex songs nowadays just for the sake of being "progressive", instead of having substance like their earlier material which was also fast and technical.

  • I was going to write something about their sons not being as powerfull, but then that EPIC ending came <3

  • I'm a big DT fan, but the entire midsection of the song is nonsense. This 11-minute track might as well be 5 minutes. Very disappointing.

  • @JamesLidia ... It's one of the best tracks in the álbum, although it has a lot of pretty-fucking great songs, this one is kicking ass. How do you say that the midsection is nonsense. Maybe it's boring to you, but, for us, it's a creative piece of art.

  • @TheMetalBuddy Take the bit after 6:44. How does this flow naturally from the rest of the song? How does it relate thematically or emotionally to what the song is about? It's a scattered mess. This isn't to say I hate the whole song, nor that I hate the group, but bits like this bother me. Reminds me of Octavarium where a freakin' awesome song has to have a muddled, nonsense instrumental section. What's the point?

  • @JamesLidia Well, that's not what Dream Theatre's about at all. If it worked like that, we wouldn't have songs like The Dance of Eternity, The Count of Tuscany, Octavarium, and countless others. Why not make them all five minutes? Because Dream Theatre has the genius and ability to make them what they are - 10 and 20 minute epics. With that kind of output, they are never going to make songs with 100% middles, but they come damn close, so shush.

  • @JamesLidia agreed

  • Probably my favorite track on the album.

  • this song is what made me buy the album

  • Gonna have my new tattoo tomorrow gonna be a Dream theater tattoo!

  • Oddio....

Ieri, a Pordenone questa canzone mi ha esaltato...

    GRAZIE DREAM THEATER!

  • and tomorrow THE CONCERT in Italy!!!!! Finally :)

  • @larabel84 I've seen them in Holland three weeks ago! Great concert, really special to have been able to witness it!

  • i love dream theater.

  • great song

  • Did anyone else get a 3+ minute add of a guy playing drums?

  • To not compliment Mangini is like telling the rest of the band members that they have bad judgement for a suitable replacement. And Mangini plays Portnoy's parts right on, as he should.

The other hand is that everyone can hate my comment about Mike Portnoy doing his job for DT, but if I had a choice of drummers I would obviously chose the original Mike, the man the shaped Dream Theater!

  • @dnazz32 dude, no one asked for your lame ass opinion,

  • fucken amazing song. love every moment of it.

  • Outrcry = Outstanding

  • @bulpoppro Close, but no

    Outcry > Outstanding

  • Comment removed

  • @dnazz32 ... Fuck You :@ !!

  • @SuperNaQa

    Right back at ya

  • As a person that is not that much into metal or hard rock, I must say, I only started listening to DT about year ago, and I grew to have I have the utmost respect them all, and both Portnoy and Mangini. So please, if I as a not-so-big fan can like them ALL, so can you devoted and dedicated fans.

  • go figure dream theaters just up to the usual, a greater epic sound, but holy fuck.

  • My favorite of this album!

  • best!

  • i cant even count how much they're changing their tempo. :3

  • my hair is standing while listened to this song. :3

  • It seems as if the drums are set back in the mix on this CD more than on other DT releases, but it could be that Mangini doesn't compete with the other parts as much as that other guy. ;-) Could be I'm losing my mind though, too.

  • this will take to dream theater to the top of the world, noy only in the progresive music. they are the greatest, a band like them never existed, because, who can mix progresive rock and metal, and all of their musicians are incredible, for me, the bassist is the best in history, the guitarrist is one of the best of this times, and history to, well, they are all great musicians, and a great group. YEAAAA DT \m/

  • yyess portnoy's time is over for dt,time to mangini

  • I hate the new Dream Theater... and I'm a Mormon... then I took an arrow to the knee.

  • Myung´s bass the first time OMG

  • this song sounds so fkn amazing in live !!!

  • Best songs off of ADTOE:

    On The backs of Angels

    Outcry

    Breaking All Illusions

    This is The Life.

  • Portnoy = Mangini. They both have their pros and cons.

  • @Darkhuaza517 Mike = Mike

  • This song on drums is totally unlearnable! :/

  • Mike > Mike.

    Do it as you will.

  • this song makes me cry outloud!

  • mike portnoy > mangini

  • i dont care who the best is mangini or Portnoy. As long as the band sounds good and mangini can live up to the task ( which he has)...its all good. I miss the oddities in DT though...those signature changes in the songs...their whole sound mix has changed in this album. Now i know portnoy was a big part of the mastering process too. guitars are just too heavy for me. i want to hear the rest of the band !! wheres the bass ?

  • Comment removed

  • Is that bass i can hear? Yes it is!

  • ok enough with the portnoy vs. mangini crap. both are some of the top drummers in the world however neither is rediculously better than the other.

  • As good as this new album is DT are not as good without Portnoy, but then again he is one of the worlds best drummers so its expected

  • Mangini is the basic version of MP

  • Epic this song is my joung padawan!

  • Portnoy my ass. You guys are lemmings. This album with the current line-up is totally amazing. I would drive hours to hear this performed live.

  • Anyone remember the beauty that was The Miracle and the Sleeper? so sick of this variation between horrible structureless keyboard rambling and generic metal riffs to violin fronted block-chord moaning, I miss these guys being badass and telling awesome stories, because this album is boring me to tears at some points. Where have all the cool riffs gone? The Octaviarium style oddities? seems like they compacted everything amazing into Breaking All Illusions :(

  • @Acidwrath I do agree. I think they're doing it too much for the fans and not enough for themselves. However, I believe that the minute they get a new singer, things will become much better. I also think Mangini will help bring back the originality with his ideas and fresh blood into the band for the next album.

  • @ShatteredWindowpane Finally, a sensible response! Definately, you can tell they're reaching for a mainstream audience. Can't wait till they get a new singer either, what an edge it'll give. Personally love Mangini's grooves too, I really want to hear him bloom in the future. Hope they play mostly old stuff live!

  • @Acidwrath To be honest, I'd expect them to get some singer like Marc Hudson from Dragonforce, only less commercial and younger. Could you imagine? Any Dream Theater album would instantly become 10x more awesome. I mean, LaBrie is very good, huuge influence, but honestly he literally cannot sing old songs anymore, and fans won't put up with that forever :P

  • @ShatteredWindowpane Not sure whatyou mean? LaBrie performs the old songs outstandingly live. I wouldn't get your hopes up, LaBrie is more than likely a permanent member of DT unless he himself decides to leave, which in my opinion would be worse, much worse, than Portnoy leaving.

  • @MKScorpion06 Have you heard him live? I'm saying compare it to old days. He can't perform like that forever, and I certainly won't see Dream Theater live with my parents if I know he'll be wailing around all the time.

  • @ShatteredWindowpane I heard him live on THIS tour actually, and he's been doing great. Seems ever since 2 years ago or so he's improved substantially in live performances, and I thought he was at the top of his game.

  • @MKScorpion06 I haven't actually seen them live, so I guess I can't really say. I'm using footage I've seen on Youtube of his performances and they seem rather wailing.

  • @ShatteredWindowpane saw them live wednesday in Sweden, and i can say that it was a flawless performance from everyone

  • @Acidwrath I know what you mean mann

  • 2 people are gonna OUTCRY for disliking XD

  • holly sh;...!...how many experts coments have this video!.....fuck all!...DT the best band !

  • I miss Mike Portnoy :( Had added so much aggression and attitude to the music.

  • 5:00 Whoa! Egyptian!

  • We miss Portnoy...

  • @progressiveriff we?!....you and your mon?....come on, please stop listen DT...

  • 4:50 dream theater yanni moment.

  • Portnoy is best.

  • @ExtinctHermit But Mangini is close behind

  • Guys i have listened to DT all my life and i love it but i have to say that i think this album sounds like a repitition of things they have already played. Im not bashing the band but im just not feeling it with this one.

  • Like great song but i miss Portnoy :'(

  • Garden of eden is in bURNSIDE kENTUCKY

  • 3:28-3:52 :D

  • 7:36 for some reason I expected to hear a deep voice say: "my soul is yours dark master."

  • Very nice Mangini....very nice indeed. Portnoy, you have done your job for DT....thank you.

  • @dnazz32 lol ;D. Perucci made drum track, Mangini just played it. Anyway i'm still waiting for him to show up in DT :>

  • @dnazz32 DO. NOT. EVEN. ATTEMPT. TO. TAUNT. MIKE. OVER.

  • @dnazz32 You do know that Mangini didn't build the drums for this album, right? They were built by Ruddess for this album because there was no Portnoy and they started working on the album

  • @AceMasterDX You're right that Mangini didn't write the drums, but I thought it was JP who wrote them rather than JR?

  • @Arcyena No, Ruddess built them using his keyboard

  • @AceMasterDX And it is for this reason that im not saying that mangini is better or portnoy is better for DT until next album (which hopefully has the drum tracks written by mangini)

  • @braedonROX smart

  • @braedonROX The next album will be compsed by JR & JP again... The only difference will be Mangini gets to start messing with drums right away. I don't think they will write in a full band setting, so Mangini can't write songs or anything. Sounds weird but it's just the way it is

  • @AceMasterDX It was Petrucci who wrote the drum skeleton. They actually started to write the album after the drum auditions, so Mangini was already in the band when they hit the studio. Although JP did wrote the drum SKELETON, Mangini changed like 70% of it, because Petrucci is not a drummer. Just listen the instrumental part of "Outcry", how in hell could JP came out with something like that?, THAT is the work of a DRUMMER. Sorry for my shitty english.

  • @alushearo Your shitty english is fine with me :) lol

But from what I heard it was Ruddes who wrote the drums, and that they finished writing the album even before they even had a drummer

  • @AceMasterDX "John Petrucci programmed some drum machines. In some cases, it was a skeleton. In other cases, it was kick and snare placement, which I did mimic, because after trying different things, he had come up with what I thought was the best stuff." - Mike Mangini.

  • @alushearo Ok, now that makes it all clear

  • @AceMasterDX Sarcasm? I tried to put the link of that interview but youtube didn't let me.

  • @alushearo No lol I wasn't laughing haha, I was serious... It makes it all clear

  • @dnazz32 Good to see that some of the DT fans can forget so easy...

  • @AlisonChaynes You play it

  • Hey guys John Myung is doing a bass solo in this song!!! I wonder if there's another bass solo in that solo just like in Metropolis...

  • i love how all u dipshits are acting like mangini wrote this when he didnt.. this was all jp jm and jr's doing so lay off portnoy mangini didnt do shit on this album be learned wat they wrote

  • hope your listening, Portnoy

    (goosebumps)

  • @JoseDTheater ya im sure portnoy has and he was like im sure i could have added more to this song

  • Comment removed

  • The contrast really hits me between different forms of metal music... when i go from an insane headbanger of a Slayer song to the complex beauty of Dream Theater

  • If you listen to the interviews, they said this album was similar to the last ten years of dream theater sound but not a total separation. They wanted to ease fans into something different. The next album will be when we get the real evolution of their sound

  • finally something different from DT,but still not different enough IMO. but interesting to listen.

  • Mike Portnoy didn't like this video.

  • @JimmieOC mike PORTNOY is always the best drummer

  • brilliant...what more can I say. It does, though, remind me a bit of "my" Images & Words...which is one of my Albums of all times...Welcome back indeed

  • Orgasmic! tears and drops, that's all I can say..

  • I find it funny that people haven't moved on yet. I think this sounds great, actually it's some of the best DT stuff I've ever heard.

  • there is one fag.

  • @007mustaine it's Portnoy lmao

  • incredible album,,,is an master piece of music composition....

  • This album is masterpiece!

  • This album is masterpiece!

  • 6:24 must be the craziest piano solo EVER. So sick!

  • Mangini will defintely be great on their next album! I think he did good here considering he was'nt involved in the writing process. Of course DT will sound different, but the guy is not a "poser" by any means. If you want to hear him play some fills with power that are amazing listen to "Crucify" on Elements of Persuasion

  • Mike Portnoy who?! This is like if John Petrucci left and some poser replaced him, sure he would be good, but not AS good, and can not make the awesome rifts and shreds like John.... DT will never be the same.

  • Mike Portnoy who!?! YYYEEEEEAHHHH! DT has been reborn!

  • 4:54 to 8:43: Four minutes of unbridled progressive!

  • this its the DT i fall in love this its the DT i Love This its the DT im fan, This its PROG!!! this its Virtuoso This its Dream Theater!!!!! finally a Song of Gods keep making this DT

  • @CGuzzoBC fucking yheaaaa!!!!

  • thanks God !!! before 3 albums the Dream its back!!!!

  • excellent song... excellent album. Welcome Mangini

  • Best intro ever.

  • I can definitely see people at concerts doing the "OOOO OOOOOO OOOO" thing a la Iron Maiden's Fear Of The Dark during the intro. It would be mind blowing.

  • This is fucking wonderful.

  • Hmm...this might be my fave of the new album so far.

  • King Crimson got LaBrie as their lead singer?

  • Quite possibly the most Progressive & technically challenging album Dream Theater has ever recorded!, definitely not bad for having done it with a brand new member on the drums!.

  • When it hits 4:43 I get the same feeling I get when I reach the top of a roller coaster...

    ...it's about to get real.

  • At around the 7 minute mark it sounded distinctly like Mr Bungle.

  • Does the intro remind anyone else of something Evergrey would do?

    Not complaining, just saying...

  • Does the intro remind anyone else of something Evergrey would do?

    Not complaining, just saying...

  • 5:22 - 5:58 fucking sick!

  • how do they put an incredible instrumental section inside a so bad comercial song?????

  • @gonzalomesa1 Commercial? Are you fucking kidding me?

  • @123454321qcat no i'm not

  • @gonzalomesa1 It's over 11 minutes long, has odd shifting time signatures and extended instrumental sections, as you already admitted. If you think that's commercial you need to get your shit together, son.

  • @123454321qcat

Ignore him, hes just trolling. He thinks he is the shit just because hes studying classic guitar or some shit like that. Sad thing is, that he could never make a single piece of music like this.

  • @123454321qcat Sorry son, but comparing to their other music, this is commercial.

  • @Ejdzbiol91 Really? because FII, ToT, Octavarium, BC&SL, and SC all seem a hell of a lot more commercial to me.

  • i love each man from this perfect band...am i gay?

  • @Reeahful You are not gay, just wise.

  • this song is too ridiculous. my mind cannot fathom any of it.

  • 0:44-1:30 FUCKING AWESOME!!!!

  • Never thought I'd say this, but I prefer DT without Portnoy. If this is the way the albums are going to continue, then welcome, Mangini.

  • @KAIbanezA7X ur perfectly right...i swear i never felt a sensation like this from a song(is called orgasm) for one hour my heart was beating like hell and i couldn't even stop it i can't sleep since i heard the new album

  • @KAIbanezA7X I know right?! I feel the same way!

  • @KAIbanezA7X I totally agree, my friend. Dream Theater were a very good band with Portnoy. And now... Dream Theater is THE BAND.

  • @KAIbanezA7X YEEEEAAAAH, I am still never going to say that. Have you forgotten "Black clouds and Silver linings" or what about "Train of Thought?" Its good, but not as good as with Portnoy... Mangini is great, but not nearly as epic as Mike Portnoy.

PS. I swear if one more 12 year old noob who says that he has been drumming for "years" and about Mangini's, "Poly rhythms" and "Ambidexterity" I'm going to freak... PORTNOY IS THE BEST!.... The end.

  • @Yadooba Luckly. I don't stand alone. Nice said mate.

  • @FinalWingz Good to know I don't stand alone either. XD

  • @Yadooba AMEN

  • @KAIbanezA7X i agree man :) i feel the band wrote it and we're hearing it as is, not with portnoy's filter over it

  • @KAIbanezA7X Never say "without portnoy", whatever, Mangini is a master like portnoy, but remember, portnoy was in our hearts, don't forget that :)

  • @KAIbanezA7X Mangini had nothing to do with this album. The drum tracks where already written. Ignorant comment is ignorant.

  • @xPurpleDrinkx9001

He meant DT is better without Portnoy's contributions, not that Mangini makes DT better. Portnoy might have made amazing music in the past, but he had too much creative control, and the band had been making very poor music lately.

A Dramatic Turn of Events is infinitely better than SC and Black Clouds, and probably better than anything that would have come to be if Portnoy hadn't left.

  • @SpaceDyeDream

Exactly that. Portnoy's contributions were never a favourite of mine. I'm evidently an A7X fan, and the contributions he made to their album, most notably the song 'Save Me' kinda wrecked it for me. I don't have anything against Portnoy, I think he's a great drummer, and is awesome live. I'm just not a fan of the contribution he prints around on several bands. 'Leaving his mark' so to speak.

  • beautiful music, those guys really know the meaning of cool prog metal music... 1st thing i'm gonna do tomorrow is to get the album... dt is back with their awesome n creative ideas... thanks to jm, jp, jr, jl & mm for those fantastic music.

  • @CGuzzoBC i dont think so, the count of tuscany, the best of times, a nightmare to remember were great progness epic!

  • 5:50-5:54 the outro to ''this dying soul''
