A large percentage of Americans are ignorant as to what is going on in the rrest of the world. Alot of this is due to poor education at an early age. I learned nothing in school about Europeon History or Geography and had to seek out books and information simply out of a desire to understand history.

A large percentage of Americans are ignorant as to what is going on in the rrest of the world. Alot of this is due to poor education at an early age. I learned nothing in school about Europeon History or Geography and had to seek out books and information simply out of a desire to understand history.
This lack of information and lack of contact with Europe does leave Americans ignorant in areas of the world where we should know more..... but there are many Americans who are quie intelligent.

Being relatively safe due to the buffer of not one but two major bodies of water, it is easy to forget how lucky the American (and Canadian) people are. But what you must understand is our good fortune didn't just happen. We fought for and nurtured it... all with the castoffs from other countries. Can Americans be stupid? Some can. But can you say any different about your country?

And yes, I know the USA empire is faltering and that without dramatic intervention in the very near future will in all likelyhood fail. My response to that is let it. Its corrupt from within and is unlikely to change. The good thing in its failure is places like England and Russia (your country I believe) will have to go elsewhere (China maybe) to support your bankrupt economies.

Stalin traded land/people's lives for time to rebuild Russia's factories deep in Siberia... a tactic that would not have worked if it had not been for the USA's Lend-Lease program as well. The importance of the European battles the US Army were involved in not-with-standing, our provided the arms and supplies necessary to the British and Russians were key to the Allies winning the war. The fact that Bradley & Patton kept saving Monty's arse was just icing on the cake.

As for the Russians, until the Germans attacked them, the Russians were actually allied with Germany. And correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not) but didn't the US retake all the territory lost by the British and Americans to the Japanese BEFORE we dropped the atomic bombs (2)?

There are times when Americans are self-absorbed, even to the point of being arrogant, but at least we aren't elitist jerks like most Europeans. I've spent several months touring the 'old countries' and have experienced FIRST HAND the so-called intelligence of Europeans. The casualties rates were Omaha Beach (American - 3,127), Sword Beach (British - 683 men KIA), Gold Beach (British - 421 men KIA), Juno (Commonwealth - 359 KIA), Utah (American - 212). The British took the hard road indeed. Care to look up the statistics for other engagements?

Then they bombed japan and the war was over, the world saved once again by our american heroes!

Since i can tell you love wikipedia, look up the battle of britain and the battle of stalingrad. 2 of the most destructive battles in recent history that changed the dymanics of the war. Then look up battle of berlin and realise this...

The British were only able to hold off defeat at the hands of the Germans due in large part to the MASSIVE supplies the USA sent to England (LEND-LEASE Program). Germany was defeated mainly due to the fact that England was used as one big staging area to launch bombers and, eventually, soldiers from. The German industrial might was bombed out of existence.
