  • toughest men and the toughest generation ever! i will never forget them and the lessons i've learned from my grandparents. they were hard working fun loving people who had to go through that. God bless you and thankyou for sharing your story!

  • I'm not from America, however with men like this this by my side I would have been glad to fight, and perhaps die for his.

  • I can only hope that I'm worthy of the air I breath Sir. Thanks to you and all that have served. We will continue to strive for that the strong are just the weak secure and peace preserved.

    Thank You Soldier

  • You are truly a good man

  • Thank god I was lucky enough to be rasied by this generation. Hard as nails!! Man they was something else. Phisically fit was a twenty mile hump while puffing a un filterd Camel.

  • Sir, your words send shivers of respect and awe down my body. I simply cannot fathom the amount of hardship you all must have gone through. Thank you for protecting our country, and saving countless lives. It saddens me that the second world war is being forgotten by my generation. I will make sure that your trials and victories are not forgotten, as long as I live. Thank you. Signed- Round Two.

  • God Bless You Sir

  • Hooah! As a fellow American and a Vietnam Veteran, I salute you Brother and all those that have served and those that are will to stand up to the challenge now and in the future.

  • Thank You Sir!!!

  • This video has 2 dislikes? How dare such people? Really? This man saw the worst war of all time, and NO soldier but the men and women in World War II could ever experience anything like what they went through to free and protect our country. Mr. Cecil Clevenger, sir, I salute your bravery and honor your triumph. You, sir, said it well, "I love it. I fought and almost died for it." If all men and women alike would believe in those brave words, our generation today would be a much better place.

  • Respect.

  • I am a 13 year old boy who loves learning about WWII. Each time I read or watch a story like yours I think to myself, about how brave, heroic, and sometimes foolish that man or women is/was, that makes them be one of my thousands of heros. I know how much WWII is being forgotten by the new generation of "young people" and as long as I am alive I will make sure that people like you, will never be forgotten. You are truly a hero, who in my book will be honored forever.

  • Thank you Sir. I am grateful for your service to our country. It is people like yourself that make me proud to be American. You make me also realize how much I love our country. I wish I could say somet.hing more of value to you. But all I can say is,"God Bless" you and all your family

  • I love to watch this video. Thanks for telling your story. Puts a lump in my throat. Really makes me proud to be an American and in this country with people like you.

  • A true hero.

Charles Roy Hilber, PFC 27th infantry 106th regiment. cannon company

    Thank you,

  • My dear Cecil: I am a 50 yr old woman, born in Canada and still reside. I cannot find the words that adequately tell you how I feel about you and all our US and Canadian vets. "Thank you" somehow is not enough but I can promise you that I will never forget you and all of our vets' sacrifice. I will never know what you had to endure nor what you have to live with every day when reliving such horrific events. May you know that God blesses you and all our vets.

    Forever in my heart,

    Nancy Monahan

  • I LOVE listening to World War II Vets.. Or any vets...

  • You are a hero. All of you were heroes. Thank you so much for your service.

  • Words can not express my gratitude for what you have sacrificed. Nor can just saying THANK YOU be enough for all you have gave. I know from personal experiences that being able to talk about it is as had as living it. You said it best when you said, you wasn't there for the medals, it was to do a job, returning freedom to the people. Without you and others like you I wouldn't be able to say this, for I would not have the FREEDOM to do so. I THANK YOU and all other who follow for this privilege.

  • I want to hank you Cecil as well as the men who fought so bravely in the pacific and european theatre. Even when your health, future, goodwill, and even life was at stake you answered a call that could not be left unanswered. Im 19 years old, attending college, and have decided to apply for millitary service after I recieve my degree, A faint and uncomparable decision compared to yours. I just want to thank you and the millions of men who have served to perserve a future of freedom and decisions

  • my grandpa was in japan on a mortar squad. he died in 1999 when I was two.He was either 74 or 76 years old but I don't remember. he fought on saipan and on tinian he was wounded with gun wounds and frag wounds. 4th marine didvision

  • i would like to say thanks for the time you took to do this interview.

i must of been very hard but you realy opend my eyes to what exactly happened over there. thanks

  • America's greatest generation.. amazing men and women, god bless you. Its such a shame to think that by 2030, this generation will have mostly passed on... such a shame.

  • u shall never be forgotten!

  • I personally want to thank you for all you have done. my grandpa fought in japan, he drove a sherman. and his brother was an infantry man ,but he was killed. my grandpa and his brother were army, my grandma was a marine during korea. and my dad is in the coast guard. Cecil people like you make me proud to be an american. I want to join the coast guard and serve my country. i see people in my class who won't say the pledge, it makes me sick to see them do that. they don't realize what was lost.

  • Salute !

  • I have watched this video many times. Listening to this great American puts a lump in my throat. I do think we have and are giving up a lot of the freedom that He and great men like him fought and died for. We shouldn't give up an ounce. If we need to stand alone in the world then, so be it. By the way, this video needs to be easier to find.

  • respect clevenger fore save the nations

me proud of u ! good job

  • What a Great Video!

  • This old soldier is a true patriot. I must respectfully disagree with him about how Free America is. I think that the tipping point is here. At this point the freedoms we have are really privilege because the government has accumulated the power to take it all away any time it wants to. Ask new Orleans residents how free they were when the Police confiscated their guns and would not even give them a recite. For what Defending themselves from Criminals. Google the Battle of Athens 1946.

  • Thank you for your heroism and defence of our liberty and way of life, Mr. Clevenger.

You would be surprised to know, that among the educated people of my generation (I am 24), there is a very strong interest in and admiration for your generation and what it accomplished, under the most extreme adversity.

The war's fighters, its scale, its battles and its heroism all seem so mythical yet it was indeed real and personified by you and other great men like you, sir. Once again, thank you.

  • HI i noted your your comments and thought ide like to tell you y father was i pilot in the raf,he trained in a tiger moth at 18yrs old, later he was to fly a beufughter bomber,in which he took part in OPERATION TIGER,but had no mention. Can you imagine that age group today would never be able to handle such life theni live in brighton england, and that age range dont know right from wrong let alone the lads of the war streets ahead with knowing more than todays age ever knowing less.

  • Without people like you, there wouldn't be a United States of America. What happened to you, how you dealt with it, and what you did is commendable beyond words. You have my deepest respect.

  • Airborne

  • This really touched my heart.

  • God bless you Old Soldier I'm glad there were and still are men and women like you who will stand up for us as Americans. I can't fathom where we woulk be without the likes of people such as you. Once again, GOD BLESS YOU!!! you won't admit it but let me tell you here and now, YOU ARE A HERO. Thank You.

  • awesome,. This Canadian honors you.Thank you

  • This generation needs to listen to this honorable WWII veteran and stop listening to left wing bullshit. If it wasnt for this man and many others we would be saluting the Nazi flag..

I want to thank all the brave men and women who served in WWII.

  • Since i have heard stories similar to yours in person, I thank you for everything you have done. With out people like you and my grandfather, I honestly dont think our country would be the same.

    In deep Respect,

    Billy Lacas

  • My grandfather was in the 503rd during ww2. He went through basic training, then went to california and got on a boat to australia. After staying in australia for a little while, he to went to the philipenes.During a battle against the japs, a grenade landed about 10 ft from him. he was knocked unconicios and the japs pushed the americans back. He layed motionless for about 3 hours until the americans pushed pack and saved him. he still to this day has small fragments of that grenade in his back

  • wow...im proud of your grandpa.. please tell your grandfather that i deeply respect him for helping us driving out the japanese from our country..

    from a filipino...

  • Hell of a GUY

  • Sir i have more respect for you than i do many of my own seargents. You have made me look at what i am doin for my country in a whole new light. Thank you. My only hope is that someday i can be like you tellin my story and inspirin young americans to always do there best and remember that freedom isnt free. Again thanks and God bless

    PFC. Jones, Mark

My father was 19 yo when he enlisted in the US Navy, then was shipped off to the PTO. He passed away in 2002 after a long and blessed life with a family and large following of friends who dearly loved him.
