This whole movie is about how Merlin fucked up everything haha. First he join forces with Vortigen, then he killed him, went to help Uther(cause he was good at heart) get in bed with another man's wife for the 'greater' good, so that he can raise a child(Arthur, again really pure at heart, who despite that he would end up sleeping with his sister) and later on, he brought another man(Lancelot) to ruin the marriage of the same man he helped conceive and raise. Not that bright, for a wizard, eh?

@kristicuk Our world is full of people who wish to do right and fail, and the fantasy stories written only reflect human nature, or try to bring out those human traits which inspire others to do right. Wizards like Gandalf and Merlin and Dumbledore may not seem like geniuses nor great judges of character, but then again wizards aren't meant to be, it's just a stereotype. They're people with extraordinary powers who use them to try and do good, instead of overpowering the less knowledgeable.

Mordred, the most evil character in the movie...next to Vortigen. A least Mab, Frik and Morgan la Fey had redeemming qualities to them (hell by the end of the film I felt sorry for Mab and she's the third most evil villain!) but Mordred just palin evil. Still a pretty good villain though.

notice how merlin says I can't protect you in this matter. Mab represents nature which can be a bitch but also is good. Mab easily manipulates men and women by their basic desires. Merlin is like the repression of nature which is in everything and despite Mab being defeated in the end is never really gone.
