There were several versions of these titles actually. The lyrics of the song changed frequently and by 1990, the only remnant of this title sequence was the bit where he comes out of the pub and into the DHSS office.
They still don't give a monkeys down the DHSS...the DHSS or DWP now are the worst bunch of bastards on the planet...and for all the dickheads laughing at Alf's "racism"...the writer Johnny Speight was creating you...laughing AT you, not WITH you, you thick cunts!
You really miss the point about In Sickness And In Health & Till Death Us Do Part along with Johnny Speights writing if you think it was about glorifying racists like you & the BNP. It means the total opposite Watch it with an open mind & work out what its trying to tell you.
The only time this was rerun was about 5 years ago on Sky channel Granada Plus, which doesn't exist anymore, but they were popular for cutting about half the episode so it wasn't worth watching them anyway. Wud love to see these again, especially the episode where Alf gets stuck on the window ledge, and the one with the cordless telephone, where he ends up shouting at the base unit "WE CAN BLOODY HEAR YOU, WE'RE TRYING TO FIND YOUR OTHER PIECE" or something along them lines.
This used to be on in the late 80s/early 90s at about 8 or 8.30pm I think on BBC1....loved it. I agree with Longlegs70, Alf was a legend and he didn't give a fook what others thought of him, wish they'd rerun it AND Til Death Us Do Part....and Im Asian and took it all as good comedy!
Warren Mitchell plays the part well. He is, in fact, nothing like the character of Alf. In fact, when writing the script, he asked why Alf didn't attack the Jews as well. He and the writer were both Jewish, you see. The writer pointed out he didn't want to offend Warren, but he said that in Alf's world, everyone was fair game, so they added it.
Warren Mitchell is a class actor. People to this day really believe he is a bigot, racist and homophobe and he isn't at all.
In sickness and in Health was fantastic! i truely loved this programme it was so funny how alf didnt give a hoot what people thought of him he was a legend and i loved him!! so so funny!!!
