  • i dont find this funny

  • @Garcian I feel sorry for you. Genuinely.

  • @bassben04 its too acted

  • @Garcian I kind of know what you mean, but the brilliance of Alan's character is that he is over the top for all the wrong reasons. He's undeservedly arrogant and incredibly tactless. It's odd though. Many of my friends say the same as you. Maybe it's just an acquired taste.

  • @Garcian Get a sense of humour then, or a brain. Can you not understand dry, witty satire? You're probably one of those tits that watch those cheap canned laughter (Alan Partridge is shown in front of a LIVE audiene) BBC3 "comedies" that's all about sex and farting aren't you? Breeding a nation of witless thicko's these days.

  • @tombnpastonman the comedy i watch doesnt need a laughter track to prompt me when and when not to laugh like some sort of salivating pavlovian dog. you call this dry? its so over the top i'd question youre ability to read human gestures.... on a brief side note: fuck off - now thats 'witty'

  • @Garcian

I went to a BBC recording of this series of I'm Alan Partridge, and this laughter is from a REAL studio audience.

I saw scenes set in the static home, the country club and the garage being filmed, and for continuity when we all watched scenes that had already been shot (on large TV screens at the front of the audience), the floor manager told us all to "laugh and enjoy it".

Amanda Ianucci is on record saying he's gets frustrated that people think AP has a laughter track.

  • @TheMightyHartley whether its recorded or live, i think if you took away the laughter as a central comedic mechanic, ppl wouldn't find it that funny.

  • @Garcian

    Ah, OK, I getcha :-)

  • @Garcian Kind of like your internet connection.

  • Comment removed

  • @Etcher

Step 1: Go to the Alan Partridge BBC site, look at Alan News, entry dated 20/11/2002. Read what Amando Ianucci said.

Step 2: Come back here and offer me a grovelling apology.

It's tough being wrong when you're a know-all, eh? Of course, you'll know I used to work for a major broadcaster, and you'll also know they edit genuine studio laughter, which sometimes makes it sound like a laughter track.

    Now, who's 'full o' shite'?

  • @TheMightyHartley

    nice put down : )

  • @TheMightyHartley I stand corrected. I was also kind of pissed when I wrote that. You win.

  • @Etcher

    No worries, mate.

"Needless to say, I had the last laugh" ;-)

  • @TheMightyHartley "Of that, there is no doubt" 8)

  • @Garcian No it's not, just makes you look like an uneducated 13 year old. Get a sense of humour, a job might help, too.

  • @tiddler111 Good, cos I love the way she speaks

  • I mean...doesn't need it. Jebus.

  • I wonder whose idea the laugh track was? This stuff really doesn't it.

  • @spaceoreo

Mmmm, not sure what to think about this.

I went to a studio recording of this show at the Beeb - can't remember the exact scenes we saw filmed but they took place in the garage, his 'static home' and the country club he visits - so the laughter was real in those scenes (all studio sets BTW).

We also watched other scenes that had already been filmed and were told to 'laugh and enjoy it'.

  • @TheMightyHartley This was the first part of the first ep I saw and the laughter threw me. My first thought was that it was on location and therefore had to be a track. It was only as I watched more and saw the occasional pause to ride out a laugh that I realised some of the laughter was real.

  • HOT TOPIC! haha

  • Aww @ him saying "people bounce back... Dennis Hopper... there are others" lol. Cant believe Dennis Hoppers now dead.

  • The famous Cash Back line. Watch and laugh

  • HOT TOPIC!

  • Vote partridge. Partridge for PM.

Partridge should go into politics. I think he'd be a Tory.

  • @TheWhupper Brilliant idea. Thats what the movie should be about.

  • @TheWhupper He wouldn't be a Tory! He'd form the Partridge Party and have fantastically amusing election debates with Cameron ^.^

  • sonya,lets be appaling!!

  • Alan's love asylum, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!"

  • fanny hair!!!

flattly my dear i dont riverdance

  • I would love to see Skirmish. Why didnt they show any in this series?

  • Big balls....Fanny hair! Hilarious!

  • best show in the history of shows

  • "balls out of the bath on this one"

  • when im 17 im ganna get a rover 214 the an is200

  • "i can hear them but i can't seem 'em"

  • "If you'd taken the trouble to watch boob Olympics".

    LMAO

  • Hmm, series 1 or 2??

I must say the IS 200 doesn't suit the Partridge character. The old shape IS was actually a cool car, solid build and an excellent drive (despite the rep image). For those that know a thing or two about cars, this gives the impression that Alan had taste and knew what he was talking about. Would have been better sticking with Rover...

  • @SilverShamrock71 - you are alan partridge

  • LOL, You should read my comment on a later episode.

  • Are you being serious when you went to the effort to write that?

  • @creds123 mmm yeah was pretty bored that night, fair comment.
