  • Turkey is not in straw, it is a great country, about 70 million people, strong US supporter in Middle East. Damn you, ignorant anti-islamic americans!

  • @chxavier2 I lol'd

  • @chxavier2 You mis-understand, or are you trolling? it's about the specie of ~bird~ called a turkey. Google it. It's a North america bird, found over here, both in yall-land, and up here in canuck-land. (USA and Canada)

The tune is therefore called turkey in the straw. It's an older USA folk melody.

  • I am just joking with the similarity of the words. I know vastly the bird, the most splendid edible bird-flesh. Here in Brazil it is called "peru' because it was said to had come from the south-american neighbor country; I think it's the same reason that it is called turkey, people thought it had been bred in Turkey (in Turkey it is called "hindi", because the turkish think it had come from India...). And the tune is universally known, well-recognized, very nice folk song.

  • This song is AWESOME,just like Barney xD

  • BEAST

  • AWESOME!

  • Pumotorbernite its a dobro because its a squareneck and the strings are riased

  • Really cool.

  • The Steel Guitar (Resonator) is awesome :) in my opinion.

  • lol thats very good

  • Forget all that, I have a crush on this version of turkey in the straw! My god, this is so good.

  • lol, this song reminds me of a girl I noticed when I was playing on a gig with some other guy - she worked at the bar and suddenly my gig partner randomly decided to tell her I was checking her out, and she was totally flattered although she already had a boyfriend.

It felt very sweet to talk to her after that, and later in the morning I was listening to this song several times and was slightly hyper. 8D

  • @Laurelindo

Yeah... the good ones are always taken ^^"

  • Yeah.

Although nowadays I'm interested in a really beautiful girl in my college class who's actually single, and she seems to like me, but the problem is that she keeps saying to her friends that she "prefers to be single".

    Kind of annoying. :P

  • @Laurelindo

It's never easy, isn't it. Just be patient. Take it easy, keep it cool. You'll get her eventually. I mean.. you're in a band =p It shouldn't be that hard.

  • Haha, not a band really. :P

Sure, I've been in a few bands and I joined this guy I mentioned because he needed a bass player that night, but I don't have an actual band right now.

Anyway, I have some hope, because just because she wants to be single it doesn't mean she can't fall in love with me. :P

  • @Laurelindo

Yeah, you'll do fine. I had that same thing once with a girl. Than some other guy came around and swiped her away ^^" but still. She wanted to be single and she fell in love so it's entirely possible =p

  • Ok, sorry to hear that your girl got taken; but yeah, that's what I mean - even if a girl prefers to be single she still can't help if she gets feelings for someone. ^^

  • @Laurelindo

ah well it was a year ago and he was more her type anyway. Being single is not so bad though. Well except when you're in love.. that's when being single is kinda sucky =p

  • I think that it's a rather bitter-sweet feeling - even if your crush is taken it is still very beautiful to have those warm feelings for her. ^^

Of course you'd prefer her to return your interest in the end, but still. ^^

  • @Laurelindo

    I couldn't agree more ;)

  • very enjoyable melody~

  • Umm...no.

  • Wait me Texas :D

  • Cool

  • Man kanard6d is such a retard! LOL! What a no life!

  • @kanard6d If you knew anything you would know that Dobros are played laying flat on your lap.

  • ChevyToughRebel, Calling that Resonator Guitar a Dobro is like calling an Electrolux a "Hoover", and anyway there's many a Reso Player that plays them standing..

  • The verse should be played a little differently when it is repeated (0:13-0:22).

For example, try playing that verse like it is played in the Stickdeath episode "Ice Cream Van".

That small variation will make the song even better and "lift it even higher".

  • strange tipe of guitar...

  • Not quite a guitar. that's a dobro.

  • @DanielPaulguitar

No, i think it's not a Dobro, but a Blues resonator guitar.

Resonator guitars has that circular metal thing on the resonance box and are very typical to blues and some country players.

  • @DanielPaulguitar try a resonator

  • @jonathanRme Either is acceptable. 'Dobro' was originally the name of a resonator-producing company but the term is now used to refer to most resonators with wooden bodies.

  • just magical.... REALLY GREAT PERFORMANCE

  • Excellent stuff. i do this one on the banjo, and have a tinwhistle playing the melody in unison. I like this version very much, and recognise the good playing technique. Well done.

  • DBGDBG high to low

  • @MartinGross Master *-*

  • Wow! As a teenager, I used to struggle for hours on end trying to play this song (along with Arkansas Traveler). Never came anywhere near this level of virtuosity. Can you tell me how your instrument is tuned? This might just prompt me to pick up a guitar again after 30 years!

  • awesome!

  • Gibson is the owner of the Dobro brand, so you'll find a much better quality and sound :D

  • ugh your my hero! we have to do timesteps in tap class, and find this ANYWHERE. >:( and i'm like entering the class late. so yeah. my first year, their 2nd or 3rd. :( Thanks. ^__________^

  • Keep cool guys!

Let's say that it is a very good guitar (whatever its damned name is), a very good melody and an excellent player.

    Agreed?

  • but it says "turkey in the straw" so im pretty sure that it talks bout the animal (bird) not the country

  • no, the turkey nation is 1000 years old.

  • hehehe yes

  • Dobro is the name of the company who made the first resophonic guitar. All resophone guitars since have been called 'dobros' kind of like all colas are called 'coke'.... why does everyone have to be so vulgar? Just enjoy the music of a wonderful instrument.

  • same as tissues and kleenex brand or bandages and band aids. its called a household name

  • ITS A PICCOLO YOU NAZI MORONS!!!

  • kuroguy (awsome name) some blind people play in the lap

  • serbia rules

  • SING: "I had a little chicken and he wouldn't lay an egg,

So I poured hot water up & Down his leg,

The little chicken cried and the little chicken begged,

Then the dawgone chicken layed a hard boiled egg!"

  • THANX for playing your Reso so pue and clean. I have a ball jamming along side with your video. You reall know how to use that musical tool and bring joy to so many with the old classics. Is there any chance you could tape the "Chicken Reel" like you did this and notify me?

Your bass man fan from Kalamazoo

  • um... that's a lap steel... and yes, you do

  • it is NOT a lap steel genius

  • It's a SLIDE GUITAR, but YOU failed to mention that. If you're not going to give any further information about it what it is instead of just ridiculing people then just SHUT THE FUCK UP and take your shitty attitude somewhere else.

  • its a dobro

  • YES, You play Lap-Steel Guitar like that. That is what that is and that is how you play it. You need to learn a little more about music, and musical instruments. ~_~; Just youtube Lap steel, or Steel Guitar. Stop being so god damn judgmental and research shit before you make your patronizing comments.

  • correction, it is a SLIDE GUITAR, but you still play it in the lap. This type of guitar was designed to be played that way.

  • awsom playing!

  • Sweet!!! Yeah, thanks for adding this

  • Wow. Thanks for this !

  • My grandfather used to play this on the fiddle!

    Another 5+Star Performance!

  • damn, love this song! xD

  • Nicely done. :)

  • nice name. haha

  • I suppose you could call it that. But I call it a dobro. And so do must people who know it. Technically though you'd call it a squareneck spider bridge resophonic guitar.

  • ICE CREAM MAN!!!!!

  • Yes, this is the song from that Stickdeath episode. It is actually a very good song, and it has lyrics too.

  • XD I know!! ^^

  • my mommy like this song

  • nice job, but does anyone know who wrote this song, I looked everywhere and no one knows.

  • it is an american triditional song so we don't know most fiddle tunes are like that like devils dream and cotton eyed joe

  • I have a copy of the sheet music by Otto Bonnell copyright 1849. I don't know if he wrote it or if what I have is just his composition.

  • perfect Mal G

  • I love this song! The first time I heard it, was when we had gymnastics in school for about 4 years ago. Sweet!

  • hah! Phased-out sound, too! Great, Martin, I think I got it now! Cheers!

  • Great delivery as always Martin, I liked the lighting of the fretboard and bar hand too. I'm learning the resonator and have it tuned to C6th to go along with my lapsteel. I got a late start at 58 years old on this pick'n thing, but I just cann't stay away from the sound of it. I have been inspired by your videos. -- Jerry C.
