I think they forget that the Super Mario Bros DVD is aimed at children. Considering the time the DVD was released - DVDs were new. Even though everything is self explanatory, the feature was obviously added for children in case they needed help and who else better to give it than one of their most cherished and loved animated characters? Inspector Gadget!

I do believe this DVD was produced well after DVDs replaced VHS tapes and everyone by this time, including children, knew how to use them. I think what makes the DVD unique is the fact that this was one of the first times the Mario show was released on a DVD before Shout! did it in order and in box sets. Then again, this is the last span of DiC and during this time, they were known for talking down to kids horribly so it wouldn't surprise me if they thought kids were morons.
