Probabably because it is not very effective to pierce a little hole in the tank after pointing at the same spot for an hour compared to firing a slug of melted copper through in less than a sec...? The copper even comes with a small boom that surely immobilizes the tank.

Lasers are great, but not fit for weapons just yet^^
