Too bloody bourgeois! She is much too loved, too comfortable by half, to feel the frost of love lost. Give me a Callas any day, the wounded deer with the mostest! This isn't an aria, but a hymn to the secular condition of very finite love...
Love the gleam in her top notes! I think she is better here than on the telecast yesterday. The voice now is still beautiful, but not quite as full and rich as it is here.
Mattila was fabulous today in HD, though perhaps this aria was not as memorable as this video clip. The energy in her, the movement, the restlessness, the foolishness, and the consistently superb singing. A true joy.
She sounds better here than she did from the broadcast of this opera from San Francisco where imo, she was in poor voice. Her low notes are quite weak for someone who sings such heavy repitoire.
She did a great performance of this in Chicago at the Lyric Opera. I was so glad to have been abel to see and hear her in this role. She takes it to the Met soon.
Fantástico.

Callas died many years ago. Matilla is 48 years old and STILL singing like heaven, not fulling around with tycoons and jet sets guys.

I think Mattila's decidedly "blonde" voice suits the jungendlich dramatische/spinto soprano rep perfectly; Senta, Chrysothemis, Manon Lescaut, Jenufa. She's better than 95% of singers today, in my opinion.

I hear no weakness in this performance. Actuaally I am completely impressed!
There are lots of "scepticals" if this is an italian sound...
Well, what is an "italian sound!?" This is beautiful by any means... I dont want to hear louder low notes here. It would not be tasteful...
