This program (it is not OS) doesn't have any specific advantages over the modern GUI paradigms, as they were created to get rid of paper clutter on desk and not to recreate it on a computer, as this software does.
This product is called BumpTop, now discontinued gui shell for windows and mac. It was made by a Canadian startup company by the same name around 2009. The company as been bought by Google in 2010. Reportedly parts of it has found its way into android honeycomb.
I liked the 'product'? presentation, because it's a very original operating GUI. Though I doubt it would actually boast my productivity. So far it seems like an original and fun gimmick. I'd love to see further development on this GUI.
Btw is there also an original OS underneath the hood? Is it an adaptation of some *NIX OS?
...and just look at that beautiful wasted space across the left, right and top sides, what is that, 20-25% of screen space? Truly a masterpiece of design :)
Cool, now I can have chaos and clutter on my computer desktop too!
Can I get that with dust, mold and breadcrumbs as well? Will there be random encounters with coffee spills and buzzing insects? How about simulated power outages and equipment failures?
And there had better be wear and tear on those documents, I want my pdf files to wrinkle as I drag them across the floor.
Surely this will make for a more realistic experience, and it's also worth the massive extra processing resources :)
lol... Why would anyone want another way to be messy.... this is like designed to allow you to be messy... i dont play with my files.... playing with files is unimportant. I edit my files.
I have enough trouble getting distracted by the internet when i have to do my homework, if i used this OP system i would die from exhaustion and lack of sleep.
@xBDBx Agree, no reason to use this... just a resource hog... i don't even use a desktop environment on my box for everyday use; just to waste time, and detracts the user from real work.

@TheElectricRider How many people spell out NASA, RAM, or ASCII? Very few I would assume, its just far more convenient to pronounce the whole thing instead of individual letters.
Looks inefficient as hell...and time consuming. And I see lag even on their "demo" PC. And what if you have most of your crap on your desktop? Epic lag anyone?
Can you do any real work on this "most original" OS? Or do you just spend all your time "lasoooing" files out the wazoo and playing with your icons all the time? -- hey boss, I finished my work organizing 1TB of files on my desktop. I "lassoooed" them over and over.
What is the point? I mean, it looks cool, but Windows does everything you need. Why bother competing against the best system out there? And think of how un-user friendly this would be and how much it would drain your computer compared to say, Windows XP or 7.
@HelpMyFellowPeople The bad thing about Windows (apart from random crashes and low performance, not even mentioning viruses) is that it has only one shell (interface) so you can't change it if you want to have a different desktop style. This is why I stick with Linux.
@ux92 Hmmm, I have actually heard alot of good things about linux. I used to have a partition of it but it couldnt run any .exe programs so I gave it a miss.
@HelpMyFellowPeople That's because .exe programs are packed specially for Windows. It's like if you tried to install a .deb on Windows, or a .run.
I have both Windows and Linux, and I use Linux for things like browsing the web and using office, and Windows games that weren't designed for Linux. Give it a try easy to use, faster and safer than Windows, but don't expect to run .exe files because they won't run as they are for a different OS, it's like trying to play PS3 format games on a Wii.
@HelpMyFellowPeople A Mac can't do it also. Also, try Wine and ask questions on IRC Freenode if you really want to execute some .exe. Before saying something correct, documentate yourself, or then you will maybe say something wrong. Also, Wine can run many games, but not all of them for sure because they need to do a part of the job to remove bugs in their implementations. Also, Wine Is Not An Emulator.
This is more like the inside of Windows. When you save a file or open a file, it is all put here. This "operating system" is like the unforseen framework behind Windows combined with the eye-candy of a Mac.
This is a good tool for organizing documents besides text if you are willing to risk the bytes this can take up. However this is far from being called an operating system.
This is not a "original" operating system, all the video talks about its about some eye-candy file manager/browser witch is JUST a desktop, and 3D desktops are around for a while, so... ( and yes i've noticed that was uploaded in 2007 ) guess what its crap either way ( wast of resources ) peace \o/
This isn't even a desktop environment, it's a file manager... Completely OS-independent. Looks like it would be massively helpful on a tablet, if you threw in some kind of helpful metadata aside from the file type (I'm thinking file names). This vid is old as hell anyway, I'm sure they already fixed it up or fizzled out by now.
