Hi, i bought my EEEPC 900 three years ago, and its still working. But now, I got a problem with my speaker. There are times that its sound is very low that you cant barely hear and sometimes, you cant hear anyything... my QUESTION is, IS IT POSSIBLE THAT A VIRUS AFFECTS THE AUDIO of my EEEPC? im satisfied with it and using it for 3 yrs now,,, its just that i got problem with the audio... anyone can help me? thanks in advance
Do you want a big performance boost in your pc games?
You should overclock your graphics card. You just need to tweak some simple settings, and you will get a huge boost in the quality, and the speed of your games! Get the guide which tells you how to do it, 100% free, 100% safe from:
does is have a microphone on it or do i have to buy my own? If I buy this product should i buy the xp version or linux. I'm familiar with xp and linux looks like a phone.
Yes, there is a microphone, but it sounds like crap.
Get a 900 that's equipped with a proper mechanical hard drive, and not this model with the SSD drive unless you can purchase a better performing after-market SSD drive. Even with a better SSD drive, this model is still severely underpowered due to its Celeron processor. The models equipped with the mechanical hard drives use the better performing Atom processor.
man i'm so confused, my birthday's coming and i've been convincing my dad to buy me a netbook, after searchin everywhere, i found an Asus eee pc 900 for $ 200 and an Aspire One for $ 280, what should I buy??
i've been installing Ubuntu for a couple years and installing it and XP from a USB pendrive for months at my work. So, remobing Xandros or Linpus is not a problem.
=) Thanks, but in my country it's impossible to find anything from Asus, the 900 i saw is from a man who just came from the U.S., so, i guess i better forget about Asus...
My eee PC is a lot better than the one in this video. I already downloaded Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome on it. I was wondering if it would be able to download the online game Maplestory.
It's a toss-up between the 900HA and the 1000HE. The 1000HE has extra features and a longer battery life, but it's bigger and weighs more. The 900HA is light, less expensive and extremely portable, but the small keyboard can be a bit of a problem for people with big fingers. Whichever one you choose, the other one will most likely be second best.
I'm thinking of getting the 1000HE in blue if I can't find a long life battery for the 900HA.
well the reason im asking is, (and ive been doing alot of research in forums) that i want a Eee with the best performance. i do not care about the screen or keyboard or battery life, because i will be using a projector as an external monitor, external keyboard/mouse, and will be plugged in all the time/stationary in my room. the fact that its small, gives me the added bonus of portablilty, that my regular desktop doesn't. but performance comes first b4 all those otherthings.
You're plugging it into a projector? In that case, forget the Eee PC line and get yourself a desktop computer equipped with a dual core processor. The Atom processor simply isn't powerful enough for your needs, especially if you plan to watch high definition movies.
If size is that critical an issue for you, then check out the XPC line at Shuttle. 8 inches wide, 8 inches high, 11 inches deep, and powerful enough for 1080p material.
i cant spend more than 300$ really. the projector i would be using is the 3m pocket projector. the pc im looking to get as of now is a 900ha, as far as i can tell it does what i need it to do; counterstike 1.6, maplestory, diablo 2, starcraft, itunes, googleearth, photoshop, etc. im not looking to play crysis or half life 2 on it, or using it as my main media player.
In that case, the 900HA should be fine. The only missing components when compared with the 1000HE are Wi-Fi Draft-N and Bluetooth, two components that I've yet to use on any of my other notebooks that have these features.
I just got one on Thursday and agree with you on almost everything. The screen on mine is surprisingly good and not dim at all. Also, the volume on mine is amazingly good and I actually need to turn it down for headphones/earbuds lest I blow my eardrum. I too run Windows XP on mine. It was installed onto the 5 gig by a friend with plenty of room on the 15 gig side to run and download nicely.
Thank you or the tip on the firefox memory cache. That is great advice.
You can use an external CD drive in the same manner as an internal CD drive, including when booting the machine. It's just the mobility part that takes a hit.
COD:WAW however will most likely never run properly. It's way too recent, and most likely exploits rendering techniques way too advanced for ANY netbook out there.
Actually, the 900HA is now the hands-down winner. $320 in the States, $400 in Canada. Those prices are in line with the current exchange rate.
My Fujitsu LifeBook U810 cost me $950 CAD when I bought it last year. It now sells for $1,115. The U820 sells for $1,251 CAD (after $50 mail-in rebate) which includes an Atom processor, 60 GB HD, and GPS.
Eee prices go down, LifeBook prices go up. I don't get it.
Excuse me, but your review is so very wrong, I bought this pc, that originally CAME with the Linux, I didnt even bother to make it work, and switch to the xp sp2, and not only run fast on the net, and have no problems working with the office programs, nor with the web cam. I do often video calls on this device and it works unbelievable well.
Can someone help me. I bougt this pc with linux, I found it to be utter crap, so I installed Win XP Pro sp2 on it. Now it runs so slowly that even typing (like now) takes time to appear and if you for example open Internet Explorer it takes it over 4 minutes. I'm sorry, but isn't it supposed to run Windows XP properly??! Also, every I start it up it returns to 800x600 and I have to set it to 1024x600 again. What a disappointment - must be a faulty unit or something, rigth??
Unfortunately, yes. The 16G model is identical to the 20G model except that it's missing the fast 4 GB SSD drive. All you have in there is the slow 16 GB SSD drive.
However, there is an upgrade path available. Google "RunCore Mini PCI-e SSD for Asus EEE PC 900 and 900A", and you'll find SSD drives that will work a whole lot faster than what you currently have installed. The SSD drive itself is held in place by just two little screws, so it's very easy to replace.
Ah, I see, so it's the drive that's slowing it so much down. The only thing's available in Denmark is a Patriot SSD Lite 32GB which cost the same as the PC did. Oh well, what do you think of that?
To be honest, compared with the specs of the RunCore memory, the Patriot memory appears to be a bit slow. Have you considered getting a 900HA instead? It might cost you a whole lot less.
The 904HD is equipped with a Celeron processor, and not the Atom processor. I'm not too fond of Intel's "vegetable" processor line. :)
Try turning off Windows XP's virtual memory. Go into the "My Computer" properties, Advanced tab, Performance Settings button, Advanced tab (again), Virtual memory Change button, select the "No Paging file" radio button on all drives, apply the changes, and reboot. The computer should now be a bit more responsive.
u just need to supply the correct drivers for the webcam,
and for the WPA2 encryption, u need to update windows xp. the fault is with the windows itself, not the eee pc. this fault occurs only in SP2 and below. the update is already included in SP3.
pls do some research before posting this video on the internet. u are confusing others
Yes, and yes. However, you'd be better off with the 900HA. It's a much better computer, and it's dirt cheap! Check out my review of the 900HA; you'll find the link in the show info on the right.
Wait for my unboxing video of the 900HA which will be posted this weekend. At $350 with a real hard drive, upgradable components and Windows XP preloaded, it's already a fantastic deal. But I need to use it for a few hours to see if the deal is legitimate, or is simply too good to be true.
LATEST NEWS: Asus is about to release the Eee PC 900HA, a variant of the Eee PC 900 form factor equipped with an Atom processor, a 160 GB hard drive, and Windows XP. The launch price will be $349. Will this become the most popular netbook out there? I'll let you all know once I get one, preferably in eggshell white.
Hello, I agree the Linux operating system is annoying and limited, but, I n the UK at present, this is only £199 brand new, which is roughly $350 US dollars, less than my weekly wages, the fact it is totally silent for the most part is a huge advantage, anyone whom has had a powerful noisy desktop can tell you that!
I also have install Windows XP on mine, the trick is to use the operating system tweaks recommended for the 701 model, and I'd recommended XP professional with service pack 3!
Should i go for the Asus EEE pc 900 or a homemade with the spec:
AMD Athlon 64 3700+
2,2GHz Single Core
Asrock - Socket 939 - ATX ULi M1695 (939DUAL-SATA2) - 8CH / SATA / Raid / Lan / PCI-Express
1GB ram Dual Channels Pc3200 400 MHZ
280gb HDD 200+80
Gainward GeForce 9400GT 512MB DDR2
Im going to play: WoW, CS 1.6, Warrock, Maybe Call of duty 4.. I know that the EEE wont play WoW or Cod4 but.. I dont know what to get? A Small, cool laptop. Or a big ugly AMD Athlon 3700+
I can't really answer that properly. I know WoW will work on the 900 based on tests done by others, but I wouldn't try it. At the very least, you'll need a powerful notebook with a proper graphics engine from nVidia or ATI. Intel Integrated Graphics won't cut it.
Consider the homemade, but try to get 2 GB of RAM, a kick-ass graphics card, and a dual core processor powerful enough to play back 1080p HD material. The computer will then be useful for years, not months.
At $300 used, it sounds reasonable if the computer already has a big hard drive (250 GB and up). Just make sure you buy a video card with an interface compatible with the computer's interface (AGP or PCIe). As for HD playback, I'm not sure if it'll handle 1080p properly, but 720p shouldn't be a problem, which means games shouldn't be a problem either.
VERY impressive review. the best i have seen on youtube.
You got some good points about this mini pc. I got mine yesterday, and i think its great. im going to use it for studying and for the internet only. Im very impressed at the speed when using internet with linux Xandros.
i just wonder will the pc get MUCH slower if i install XP on it?
It comes into 'play' when someone has posted an instructional video such as the one visible above and has ruined the video by speaking in some bizarre french canadian hybrid accent..
if you lived around montrea, you'd know this guy is really fluent in english. in fact this is a really slight accent around here.
the accent doesnt matter about what information is given. if a guy made a vid like this with a chinese accent i still wouldnt give a fuck about the accent. you be happy that someone took the time to make something rich in information in the first place.
It's about to get worse! I'm working on a video of my trip to London and Paris! English Canadian! French Canadian! British English! France French! Maxlogica's head will explode! :)
Thanks for the great info/video. I also tryed several operating systems,Linux and xp was very disapointing.. But 2000 worked like a charm. Fast, easy but with out all the problems of the heaveyweight XP. I would not of tryed the 2000 on this type of machine but after your video I gave it a try and I am very pleased with the results. Compaired to the other eee pc 900 in my office mine it the fastest, easyest to use. No way would I go back to the stumpling XP on this baby. Thanks again...
The built-in Wi-Fi is an ordinary 802.11 b/g wireless adapter. There's nothing extra to pay or buy in order to use it. The only time you might have to pay something is if the hotspot you want to access isn't free such as in a high class hotel.
You can plug pretty much any USB2 hard drive enclosure to the computer. The only problem may be partition type conflicts between Windows and Linux. But if you'll be working with the same operating system all the time, that won't be a problem.
Thanks! I have another question, so there isn't a discdrive? But if you put some games on harddrive and the plug it in into the portable harddisk and then into this pc, will it run those games? And does it support java to play runescape? :)
Java is supported on all mainstream operating systems. I don't see a reason why Runescape wouldn't work on the 900 considering it runs within IE or Firefox.
Running games from your external HD however will be a bit tricky. You'll have to first plug the HD in the computer, then plug a CD/DVD Rom drive in the computer, and finally install the game from the CD to the external HD. And if the game requires the CD to play, you'll always have to connect both the HD and CD/DVD drives to play the game.
Asus is releasing too many new models right now. If you can wait, check out the 901. Or better yet, check out the upcoming 903 which is suppose to be like the 900, but with an Atom processor and longer battery life.
Also, shop around the competition. There might be something amongst them that may interest you.
You know how a quarter of the internet is gadget hype, reviews, previews and similar consumer hobbying? Well, your reviews outdo them all. I wish you had access to more time and machines to look at. But on the other hand, I'm afraid these reviews wouldn't be as thorough or honest. Excellent. Please buy the MSI Wind.
Thanks! Unfortunately, as you've pointed out, I don't have the time (nor the cash) to review every piece of gear out there. The EEE PC 900 alone took me almost two weeks to properly evaluate it for my review.
I might do an editorial piece next. I have a lot of issues with today's computer industry that I want to get off my chest. Too many stupid mistakes are being made, and it's hurting all of us.
Francois you are the bomb at this stuff dude! Keep on rocking !!! Nice Job!!!

whats the best Eee PC and the next best one?

It's a toss-up between the 900HA and the 1000HE. The 1000HE has extra features and a longer battery life, but it's bigger and weighs more. It is assumed that uber-geeks know how to research and change whatever is needed to make the computer work to their desire.

For the money and portability, the Asus eee pc 900 wins hands down.

BergluX 3 years ago
At $300 used, it sounds reasonable if the computer already has a big hard drive (250 GB and up). Just make sure you buy a video card with an interface compatible with the computer's interface (AGP or PCIe). As for HD playback, I'm not sure if it'll handle 1080p properly, but 720p shouldn't be a problem, which means games shouldn't be a problem either.
Enjoy!

how does a person's language come into play when talking about netbooks?
bsilver887 3 years ago
It comes into 'play' when someone has posted an instructional video such as the one visible above and has ruined the video by speaking in some bizarre french canadian hybrid accent..

says the guy from trinidad and tobago.
if you lived around montrea, you'd know this guy is really fluent in english. in fact this is a really slight accent around here.
the accent doesnt matter about what information is given. if a guy made a vid like this with a chinese accent i still wouldnt give a fuck about the accent. you be happy that someone took the time to make something rich in information in the first place.
sorry, there's no reason for insults.

Hi,
is the wifi connection free on this pc?
Or do I have to buy something or do something?
Plz asnwer!
And can u buy a harddisk and connect to this pc?
Klarley 3 years ago

Klarley 3 years ago
Java is supported on all mainstream operating systems. I don't see a reason why Runescape wouldn't work on the 900 considering it runs within IE or Firefox.
Running games from your external HD however will be a bit tricky. You'll have to first plug the HD in the computer, then plug a CD/DVD Rom drive in the computer, and finally install the game from the CD to the external HD. And if the game requires the CD to play, you'll always have to connect both the HD and CD/DVD drives to play the game.

Thanks for help!
So is this pc worth buying?
Klarley 3 years ago
Asus is releasing too many new models right now. If you can wait, check out the 901. Or better yet, check out the upcoming 903 which is suppose to be like the 900, but with an Atom processor and longer battery life.
Also, shop around the competition. There might be something amongst them that may interest you.

Great review - 5 stars. I hope that, one day, you do similar reviews for the Eee 901 and Eee 903.

I do agree with guthrien: easily the best review I´ve watched of this unit out there (and I´ve watched quite a few, including 'professional' ones.
Really helpful, thanks for your time.

You know how a quarter of the internet is gadget hype, reviews, previews and similar consumer hobbying? Well, your reviews outdo them all. I wish you had access to more time and machines to look at. But on the other hand, I'm afraid these reviews wouldn't be as thorough or honest. Excellent. Please buy the MSI Wind.
guthrien 3 years ago
