  • drop b is stupid if you wanna get a low heavy sound just get a 7 string guitar

  • @themetalchannel96 Not everyone can afford to just buy a new guitar man... cmon bro

  • Comment removed

  • The guitar is in Bb standard...fail

  • @allhasfadedband

Fail Indeed! LMAO.......playing standard power chords in B with a (drop B guitar) not the tuning lol. oh man....youngsters these days

  • Bb....expert fail

  • i didn't know Tony Hawk plays guitar.

  • Well it would be B not Drop B,.

  • Lol I have 13 - 64!!

  • So, if a guitar is drop B, what setup do all the 6 strings have? And what's the different between Standard B and drop B? Thanks ALOT :)

  • @Zam0rak41 the setup will be B F# B E C# G#.

the main diference between standard and drop tuned guitars is that drop tuning can be considered easyer because the thick string is tuned 1step lower than the others.

  • @elledain B F# B E G# C# sorry :P

  • @elledain I still don't understand it that well... Maybe tell in english and not in guitar language, I'm just a beginner. Thanks pal :)

  • @Zam0rak41 the main diference are the powerchords (for example indexfinger on 6st string 5th fred, ring and pinky on the 4th and 5th strings 7th fred), in drop tuning you just place one finger on, for example, the 5th fred, and just hit the strings 4 to 6. (string 1 being the thinnest, 6 being the thickest) its just an easyer way to play. check out some powerchord vids or drop tuned powerchords or something if you still dont understand, any drop tuning is played the same way so np :P

  • He's Playing B standard, not drop B.

  • All this tuning is Standard tuned down 1/2 step, with an exception your pretending your 6 string is a 7 string with a string missing

  • A strat wouldn't be my first choice for this tuning, more like any Ibanez or Les Paul or SG

  • @Justacuase18 All depends how you set your guitar up. If use active pickups or pickups that are thickly coiled for good sustain, you should be fine. Although, a heavier guitar would make the B tuner sound beefier.

  • I just restrung my guitar with 13-56 gauge strings and tuned it to B.....do i got to adjust the neck or anything? It keeps in to pretty good and the intonation is slightly off, but besides that it is fine. Do i got to adjust the neck though?

  • @VonHendrixTV NECK SHOULD BE FINE WITH LOWER THAN STANDARD TUNINGS ,,, AND IT SHOULD NOT HAVE EFFECTED THE INTONATION ,,,THATS A BRIDGE /SADDLE ADJUSTMENT ANYWAY,,,, IF YOU DON'T FULLY UNDERSTAND SETTING THE INTONATION ....FOR GOD SAKE DON'T TOUCH THE NECKS TRUSS ROD

  • so what note is each string in this tuning? which string are you leaving out if u buy the 7 string set? and what gauge size thing would be good?

  • @XOXON1kk1 ALSO ,,,,I THINK ACTUAL DROP B TUNING IS B-F#-B-E-G#-C#

  • @grillo1985

No it's not. Listen to thrash or black metal. They use E standard tuning and sound mean.

  • @TurkeyTuck i played for 10 years in standard tuning... i know very well this tuning, and for me it's terrible no soustain no groove no power... there are a lot of different tunings really interesting!!!

  • @grillo1985

Listen to Steve Vai, and you'll see plenty of sustain, groove, and power.

  • @TurkeyTuck i don't like steve vai, he's just a machine on the guitar.. try to listen like a guitarists, Jim Root, Dan Donegan Dimebag Darrel.... i think more creative and complete like a guitarists and they don't use normal tuning

  • @grillo1985

    Dimebag plays in standard E.

  • @TurkeyTuck yeah in the first time like the others, if you listen 5 minutes alone, and the last others are in D tuning...a little bit more interesting of E tuning. He also played in Drop B tuning sometimes, by the way Rip Dimebag :(

The tuning is something personal i think, you like E tuning, me not. that's it.

  • So the b string has a lower pitch than the C string?

Or does it need to be tuned all the way up to the next B?

  • drop c = LIFE

  • @turkeytuck metallica is a perfect example of that

  • @drjubjubs82 A# and Bb are enharmonics. There's a caption that says it's in Bb

  • @ChingParr Yes I am aware of that, but there seems to be some confusion on the matter, so I was simply pointing it out.

  • @ChingParr Nah it's fine man lol.

  • This is definitely in Drop A#

  • @drjubjubs852 yea i think it pops up on the screen

  • @drjubjubs852 This is definitely A# standard

  • @stevo946 Correct, but they are both referred to as Drop A# because they are dropped tunings.

  • @drjubjubs852 Not really, drop A# is A#,F,A#,D#,G,C and A# standard is A#-D#-G#-C#-F-A#. I've never heard anyone refer a lower standard tuning as a drop tuning. Dropped tunings always have the 6th and 4th string as octaves of each other

  • @stevo946 Honestly, I agree with you, but I've heard lower tunings be called "Drop" tunings simply because they are lower than standard tuning, such as in the title of this video. Technically, I would call this A# Standard, but others would call it Drop A#.

  • did he just play enter sandman

  • Hey you tone deaf monkey its not B flat, it's A#, Yo retard, A# is a B flat, hey man this is B standard tuned half step down, not drop B, that sums up what everybody been arguing bout since he posted this video

  • expert village for yuh aha

  • drop B for the lost: B F# B E G C

  • A♯/B♭ tuning - A♯-D♯-G♯-C♯-F♯-A♯-D♯ / B♭-E♭-A♭-D♭-G♭-B♭-E♭

  • Yeah... One would assume that the person giving the lesson would actually know what Drop B is... This is B standard, my friend.

  • Or you can just be br00tal and use all nine gauge :)

  • self proclaimed guitar expert can't play a seven string?

  • why would you want to tune a strat like this(except the jim root sig. fenders)

  • this is an Bb standard -.-

  • B standard

  • dude , this is Drop A# . go to a doctor to check your deaf ears , for god's sake.

  • It sounds like a bass on distortion.

  • why not just buy beefy slinky's fo ernie ball for 6$

  • must be a rookie if yah cant play seven strings

  • LIKE KORN :D

  • with a heavy gage s-s-sh-shet of strings on it

  • stop saying my user name!!!

  • With my 10 gauge strings, anything lower than DADGAD sounds like absolute SHIT

  • @pilotbutterfly

Get a 12's then you can tune down to drop A or standard B. Cheers

  • @TurkeyTuck But I fear the strings will hit the fretboard too much and buzz like fuck

  • @pilotbutterfly

When you play with distortion you don't hear buzzing that much anyways. Plus that, you can just fix your guitar's nut, so that it can fit the gauge's string better.

A little buzzing on a guitar is normal, since the strings are wound on the low end... The thin strings won't buzz at all, even if they are thicker, I don't know why, but it's probably because they're not wound and smooth.

  • Honestly Drop C is my Favorite Tuning... its heavy enough for those deep heavy riffs we all come to love from Metal Core and its also light enough to have a nice and warm tone for solos/bends and of course The best Sounding squealies i.e Killswitch

  • @galex66969

Not everyone likes metalcore, and not all metalcore uses drop C.

  • @TurkeyTuck Well i did not say everyone likes metal core nor did i say metal core only uses Drop C tuning... if u noticed i said "we" as in we who actually like metal core and enjoy metal core in Drop C tuning... BFMV uses standard tuning and they are metal core some ATR songs are in standard tuning as well

  • @galex66969

Personally standard E is the best. It's the most versatile. Get the right kind of tone and guitarist, and you can make a really mean sounding guitar riff.

  • @galex66969 also for me dude drop C it's the best!

  • @galex66969 I have to disagree. I think drop C# is the best tuning because you can play alot faster without getting that base oversadowing the notes. But drop C is definatly my second favorite.SOAD FOR LIFE!!!!

  • SOME1 HELP, WHAT ARE THE STRING NOTE NAMES !!! ???

  • @Live4shred1 its b, f#, b, e,g#, c# :)

  • @jon96ify cheers mate

  • is 11-50 gauge strings alright

  • @cdavis2021 You may want to go a little heavier on the low strings, .011-.056 would work best, in my opinion.

  • Its so funny looking at all the kids that say seven strings tune to A as standard and not B lol.

  • would Dunlop Zakk Wylde Icon Series Electric Guitar Strings (DHTEN2066) - Custom Heavy work? 10-60

  • @RetardedxVideo Should do.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheTrebleMusician821 i'd recommend drop d, which is standard but with the lower E string tuned down to D, which gives it a heavier sound. But if you want something heavier you could go with drop C..

  • can metal be played with standard tuning or it wont sound good?

  • @TheTrebleMusician821 Does metallica sounds good? There you go

  • @TheTrebleMusician821 can't remember the guitarist who said it but he said "you don't have to tune low to be heavy" the point is.. do whatever you want ;) no one tells you that you have to tune to b.. they tell you that you can tune it.. if you want to play metal with standard tuning, go for it.. i do it all the time :) mainly 'cause i'm to lazy right now to change the strings on my drop d guitar

  • @TheTrebleMusician821 parallels by AILD is in standard

  • @TheTrebleMusician821 i can be...it can sound just as good. it just depends on the song

  • I had no problem with my mexi fender strat with the Ernie ball heavy bottom or Zakk wylde extra heavy strings fitting them in the nut, but the fender had only 3 springs on the tremolo, so I got a 5 pack from guitar center.come and replaced the stock 3 with the new 5

  • Just note to do this heavy gauge string technique ( regardless of how you tune it ) you need to adjust the truss rod, tremolo tension, bridge height, intonation and in some cases the slots in the nut

  • This guy should of Stuck with Drums. Or did he switch to guitar because he failed at drums too? Jeez Expert Village where do you find all these experts!?! i want one for my room! so i can through darts at him

  • Expert Village Strikes again! lol...B Standard Kids not Drop B.

    You want Drop B?

    Fine here it is

    B F# B E G# C#

  • yeah expert village...NO :(

  • could you do this to a 23 or 24 inch neck scale or would it need to be a baritone, around 27

  • @Jman9112 Doesn't matter, you can do it on any neck, any guitar. Some cheap pick-ups or dead ones with too much gain at that low of a tuning will get some feed back. just make sure your strings are thick so it won't sound like moosh. This is B Standard though, Not Drop B. If you want Drop B which i use in my band, 12 Gauge is what i use. B Standard, You'll Probably want to Go with 13's. not sure though, never tuned that low before

  • Beadgb tuned 1/2 step down, drop B would be tuned Badgbe, this video would be confusing for a beginner ( and which seems to be the target audience ) the only point this video makes is to get your six string to mimic a 7 string guitar ( less the high E string ) to do the technique he'd describing is not as simple as putting heavier gauge strings on ( but a beginner wouldn't notice anyway ) on any guitar that has a tremolo other than a Floyd rose, youll have problems with the bridge unless you ad

  • Two words

    Morpheus Droptune

  • Thats Standart B Not Drop B

  • thanks pal, good info.

    Talbot

  • @Levygerards1 dat is de E A D G B E.. en die wat ik schreef heb ik zelf verzonnen op dat moment...

  • Wtf distortion? i hate awfull digital effects...(Line 6 HD series are the be(a)st)

  • Beren Eten Apen Die Geen Bananen Eten

  • you dont need a heavy guage string i have 10s on mine and it works fine haha

  • Its not hard to buy a seven string.

Black Knight do budget 7 strings at onstage quality.

To be honest drop tuning is fucking boring, used to mash out stupid amounts of power chords. The only times I use drop tuning is to achieve shapes I can't get in standard tunings.

And yeah this is the tuning A# standard (Bb).

Its funny he's just like my friend (16) who calls drop A, A standard.

    a guide to drop tuning:

drop the bottom string down one step from the standard tuning above the dropped note.

  • man up and play a 7

  • come on man...this is not drop B or B standard... It is not necessary to be a genius to know that this is a lie...simply someone knows the band IN FLAMES? Good, they frequently use the drop A# tuning in your guitars. and this guy playing in A# standard tuning....mmm..drop B tuning? listen the russian band DAGOBA for example. this is drop B tuning..or old times of the DEVIL DRIVER

  • It's technically not B standard either. It's standard 7-string tuning with the high E string missing. The difference is the interval between the 2nd and 3rd strings, which in standard, is a half step smaller than the intervals between any other two strings. Basically, B standard (which is normally achieved through drop tuning) is B, E, A, D, Gb, and B. This guitar (ignoring that it's actually in Bb) is tuned B, E, A, D, G, B, with the smaller interval occuring between the 1st and 2nd strings.

  • B Standard, not drop B. Nice try though dipshit.

  • wow , he says drop B but he is playing standard B , you can see him playing the power chords ...

  • Also, he never said anything about adjusting the truss rod. What a fuckwit.

  • How would you get lost on a 7 string? It's just tuned to BEADGBe.. Not that hard to remember..

  • This guy never know what is metal , but i know that he is a joke

  • *hand to face* this is shit. so shit.

  • Seven strings are tuned to drop A not drop B

  • @theunknown48 seven stringers can be tuned to anything...

  • @theunknown48 7 strings tune to B standard.

  • that's no drop tuning, that's B standard!

  • I got a .62 gauge just to drop to C,fucker.

  • @Pannemat i have 0.74 in 7 string tuned to B on 25,5 lol

  • do you have to change the tension on the neck to drop that low?

  • @ZachForgives ahaha WTF dude F# standard?!? damn it's fucking low!! by the way, yes i think drop A it's my top, no more down. in this moment i've my strats one in drop C and one in drop b, my ibanez on drop A.

I played for a long time in drop C# in my old ex band. to play metal drop is the best for me i've left the standard tuning 4 years ago :) my problem is to be a lefty player so it's difficoult to find the guitars.....damned right handed ahhaah ;)

  • hey guys!!! what's your favourite drop tuning?? DROP D, DROP C, DROP B or what else? let me know motherfuckers :)))

  • @grillo1985 D all the way. but b is my second favorite.

  • @IcantDiedeadenough Drop D it's not bad but it's to high for me, have you ever try drop C#?

  • @grillo1985 i have not but i know bands that do play in C. D is just what my fav guitarist Chuck Schuldiner uses on all the Death albums.

  • @grillo1985 C cause there isnt as slikyness with the strings you know? although the other tunings sound fucking tough i find drop c to be quite amazing. :D

  • @Treythemusician yeah i understand, actually i use drop C me too. it's the best for me because it's not too high and not too low. Drop C rulez :)

  • @grillo1985 yeah i think some of the other tunings are to loose. if you want to bend the string most likely in a lower tuning such as B or A you are likely to go out of tune :(

  • @Treythemusician actually i put mi ibanez on drop A just for fun, i used 13-65 strings gauge with a good guitar setup, it sounds cool but the problem with drop A tuning is the most of guitar ampli are not made to play so low.. so i must play in a low volume ahaha;) and i don't know, some riffs plays in drop C you can't play in Drop A, and reverse. but i think drop C it's the most dinamic drop tuning so i use it with my first guitar ;) if you like check out some videos on my channel :)

  • @grillo1985 most people just oversaturate their tones with too much gain and eq boosts, and once they tune lower it becomes really obvious. i've made the crappiest of amps sound decent and then some. aside from tonality properties, there's no difference between a riff played in drop C or A dude.. the intervals remain the same and it plays the same on the fretboard. unless you want to keep the same key, in which case you would be able to play some drop C riffs in A(open pull-offs would be tricky)

  • @ryzorzen sorry man, i'm italian it's hard for me speak english like i would. the differece beetween the drod C and A it's not about the setting of ampli, but it's something about armonics, like the guy in this video says "you can play your normal cords but the sound it's different!" find, if you want, in my videos a video called "Drop A tuning guitar demo" it's a my riff, played in drop A it's very different then played in drop C. :)

  • @grillo1985 Drop A And drop C :)

  • @ZachForgives yeah i'm with you, but you can also dropping the 7 string, like A E A D G B E. i use a 6 string tuned to drop A, like slipknot and it's fucking amazing!!! i'd like to buy a 7 string one day but i've to save the money..:) have you ever tried the drop a tuning?

  • It was already a fail when he used a strat. IN NO WAY SHOULD A FENDER BE USED FOR METAL (except for maybe bass, fender tube bass amps are pretty good) lol LTD's, Schecter's, Ibanez's, or Agile's are the way to go in my opinion.

  • @InnerDignity LTD ftw.

  • @InnerDignity and Schecter ftw.

  • @InnerDignity the one guy in slipknot uses a telecaster... and i use one... it doesnt really matter as long as you have the right amp... i use a mesa dual rectifier with and ibanez tube screamer...

  • @brandonmarks13279 The guy from Slipknot uses some kind of customized telecaster so its suited for metal. But what you said about having the right is is true though \m/

  • @InnerDignity Really? Fender Tele's are Fuckin' snappy metal guitars, and sound HUGE dropped down. Strats are the basis for most metal guitars, like RG's, M series, Interceptors..

  • nice playing!!

  • this guy is lost, thats standard B not dropped B

  • Amen lol

  • @diegoscolisk8 I think you may be just as lost. Its Bb standard.

  • @Metalfeak3 you say im lost becouse i didn't want to write de little b of (Bb) ... okay... if you say so n_n

  • @diegoscolisk8 I wasn't trying to be a dick or anything.......just saying :)

  • epic fail. aside from calling wrong tuning. 7 is not shit if you know what you're doing. same for 8 string depending on how you tune the bottom.

  • sounds like my ass

  • QUESTION!

I own a Dave Mustaine VMNT Endgame custom, and i have 12 gauge strings, would a VMNT play that thick of string or do i need to get my guitar set up for it?? someone please answer!

  • Re-fret chords on a 7 string? This guy is a plain idiot!

  • thats b standard . hahaha expert.

  • expirimenting on a 7 string is fun..... a lot more fun than just detuning in my oppinion

  • i think he just wanted to show off. why else would he throw so many pinch harmonics in there?

  • need some help from da experts

which pickups are better rockfield mafia and fat ass or emg 81 85.plzzzzz help

  • @joeldification emg 81 85. duh :D

  • Tuning fail...

  • This isn't drop B,it's B standard

  • if he gets lost on a seven string never let him near a twelve string

  • You remind me of my drum idol Tommy Igoe. Drop B is nice, but drop A or A# is heavier for metal as well.

  • 1:15 NO SHIT

  • 1:09 epic fail on that squeal dude

  • good job dude bt not up d mark

  • someone get this guy an 8 string. thatd be hilarious to watch.

  • get lost on a 7-string lmao xD...

  • when you tune down like that you also have to reintonate the guitar

  • I like mastodons drop A tuning more.

  • He doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about, but 1:48 through the end is kinda cool.

  • damn, that sounds metal

  • His tone is awesome..ill give him that

  • "you can play your normal six string chords, they'll just sound much different". of course they will, "expert village" you have no idea about this genre, leave it alone, get someone competent that plays guitar and who knows what they're talking about musically, this dude is a fail, fire him.

  • Plus I think those strings cost less than a 7-string guitar!!

  • Its not drop B, its Bb standard. FAIL!

  • @Stouiho you just summed up the top comment. FAIL!

  • nice heavy metal on a strat....

  • wow tone sucks. Should have been obvious with a guy on a strat saying heres heavy metal

  • @csmorgan his camera mic probably sucks

  • @csmorgan bro. iron maiden has 3 of them at once and the are one of the best metal bands.

  • 7 string = more possibilities

7 string >= 6 string seriously... it's not that big a deal to ignore the big b string...

dumb fuck dick hole ass munching faggot doesn't know shit about heavy metal, this video was NOT informative in the least bit and I'm fucken DISGUSTED as fuck that I actually gave this vid a chance... expert village my ass more like fail village of faggotry

  • fucks sake i picked up a seven string and played it no problem one extra string isn't that much of a change !

  • This guitar is tuned in Bb standard. But still good video!!

  • this is Definitely tuned in Standard Bb or A# whatever... it says in the video @0:37

my guitar is tuned in B standard

  • ok..um..no. fail with the "heavy" metal. guys if u want 2 hear real drop b metal then look up parkway drive. nuff said..

  • This might be a dumb statement, but idk why everybody is hating on this guy. It seemed like a decent video to me.

  • Totally B Standard, so much for "expert village"
