Guys - this is too fast and balance between the parts is poor. This is NOT a race! Look at this again - you need to find the inherant beaty of this challenging chorus. At the moment it is defeating you.
WTF!!!!!!!! to fast, lack of passion, this is not Majestic!!! this is not Wagner!!!!!! This is Shit!!!!!! and in English!!!!!! what a waste of time, for me, all the people who watched this video and those in that place watching that shit!!! the problems is not if they are or not gay (I find them as normal as the rest of us) thyre taste and sense of passion what I hate!!
My God! We've improved drastically now - good to see for reference though - check adagio in g minor at three choirs concert or Promo video with clips of Dies Irae - what a difference!
The song is powerful enough on it's own. You do not have to shout to make it effective. Back off the volume by 40% and I promise it will be much more effective and beautiful.
this is not choral singing at all. it's something called "choral shouting". lack of rehearsals doesn't contribute to the poor quality - it's about the techniques and skills in singing
you didnt even know the original pilgrims' chorus. if u see the original piece, there is a bunch of dynamic of fortissimo almost at the end. this is not a shouting as well as lack of rehearsals. and every piece sung by a choir is directed by the directer's choice. Therefore, this is a great piece and nice choral sounding.
Also, if you've sung the piece, you'll know that any chorus will be straining at the leash to sing this molto fortissimo. It's a physically rewarding piece to sing loud.
I love Dame Marot's voice! It takes on so much--woo!--such deep, bellowing power, and then reaches up almost effortlessly into the highest registers, and quite nearly sounding just like the young pilgrim's chorus by herself! It's amazing. And I for one appreciate this rendition.
OH MY GOD!!! this is so bad that i had to put the volume right down!
to the people that commented as being 'powerful': i think you are mistaken power with shouting, as this bunch of people seem to be able to do only the latter.
The drag queen in red is a nice touch, quite funny, but the rest is an insult to Wagner!!! the interpretation i could forgive, but not the pour quality of voices!
do yourself a favour and stick to cabaret and show-tunes!!!!
FYI this was the very first performance given by the chorus after only a few months rehearsal one evening a week... As many had never sung before and all had never sung together, I don't think the result was so bad...
Long standing joke in the City of Brighton & Hove... Before the two towns were combined inhabitants of Hove preferred to distance themselves from Brighton by saying "I live in Hove... actually!"
Ok I admit it! I took the thing too fast but I was on a very strict time schedule because of the Mayor and we'd gone up 10 minutes late as it is! Jason - MD Brighton and Hove Gay Men's Chorus. Audience seemed to like it though!
Tannhäuser, Middle High German Tanhûser (died after 1265) was a German Minnesänger and poet. He isn't attested historically outside of his poetry, which is dated to between 1245 and 1265. His biography is consequently obscure. There is a historical Tannhausen castle near Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz. He was active at the court of Frederick II of Austria, and the Codex Manesse depicts him in the habit of the Teutonic Order, which suggests he might have participated in the Fifth Crusade...
Ahem... but this chorus is a reference to his penitential pilgrimage to Rome and telling that the miracle of the Pope's staff flowering (signifying forgiveness is granted to Tannhäuser for his confession of having worshipped the "false" deity, Venus...) has happened and that absolution has therefore been bestowed to him.
With all due respect... it is not about a pilgrimage to the Holy Land...
Well if u'd b the pilgrim... having walked down 2 the holy land and back, one would think the pace is accordingly... These pilgrims here must've munched on powerbars.
Yes, you're right, i.e., it's too fast when compared to the original version. Be that as it may, I think that this new version is (also) very powerful and sounds very good! Mino
Awful! Can't be fixed other than through giving up music.

i agree, the tempo is too fasdt for this piece

So fast because the Zeitgeist is so fast. Therefore, the tempo is according with the spirit of this age and its society.

I was going to reply in a less than flattering manner, but from what you say, these people deserve praise, not cheap calumny.
Besides, from what you say, I've been in their shoes, and still feel sorry for the audience that heard us play Mahler's 1st!
