it's a little hard to call it heavy metal when at one time Sammy Hagar was considered heavy metal. I do however like DEP and not Sammy Hagar's music. also, obviously he caught the ear of Patton, considering their album 'Irony Movie' was a collaboration with Mike Patton! Dur Duh Dur!
I like how the clips they used are from the "saner" parts of their songs. They should have shown them at the beginning of Panasonic Youth or something like that and melt Charlie Rose's face off.
@loldongsize John Dillinger had helped conceive a plan for the escape of Pierpont, Clark and six others he had met while previously in prison, most of whom worked in the prison laundry. Dillinger had friends smuggle rifles into their prison cells which they used to escape, killing two guards.
To anyone who bashes Coheed or Dillinger, fuck you you close minded douchebags. Both bands are insanely talented at what they do, and if you don't like their style of music, then just DON'T LISTEN. But don't come to youtube leaving ignorant comments.
@BattleOfNY gil is hollywood?? who the fuck gave you your information you bitch! he's a real muther fucker and killed in DEP! i saw them 3 times with him playing and it ruled. shut your stupid ass up bitch
@BattleOfNY They didnt get rid of Gil! He left because he had too many other things going on. I love his work with them, I hope he works with them again. They didnt part on bad terms
@ahw812u they should change their name there was an amazing band DILLINGER EP with Adam and Dimitri, now there's this band with this singer that can't sing, thinks he can be mike patton, their songwriting is prettty elementary now, i like some stuff, but it's NOT DEP, if you ever saw the REAL band, now they're a scream, sing chorus, scream, blow fireballs, i love the singer doing the patton songs, HA, -- he must be embarrassed
dep rules. coheed sux... that's my opinion. i really don't see how the two bands have anything in common (musically at least), and it's strange how they keep getting compared. i see chris leaving the band as an opportunity to discover some amazing new drummers, gil was really good (saw him play with DEP in detroit and it was by far one of the best shows i have ever seen), and from what i can tell, this new billy guy has some real chops. :P
Batman you're a little retarded pointless bit of shit and you should take your coheed and barbies fuck off from commenting on a band you know nothing about!!!
DEP are brilliant! Ive seen em twice this year, and got to hang out with them back stage, Liam is hilarious, ben is a tripper wearing a duran duran shirt lol, greg is humongos accidently walked in on him changing, he was in these little boxers and seriously he could be a wrestler lol, billy is unreal drummer and i reckon if he gets the spot on the new album he'll suprise a few ;) and jeff is a really cool guy too! Was one of the best nights ever!
@hmzen yeah I agree, I think I'M going to listen to some REAL music called Meshuggah as well, then I'll listen to some REAL music called The Dillinger Escape Plan, and at no point will I be a narrow minded little fuck face.
I mean c'mon man, what the fuck is wrong with you?
how do you even compare coheed to dillinger. no comparison, dillinger started a movement or was at least at the forefront of it and coheed is a no talent act that appeals to school girls with no real taste. HA
first of all, greg doesnt just scream. and second of all, just because ben's guitar parts are more complex than coheed's doesn't mean its just random noise. c&c doesn't express nearly as much emotion as dep. and certainly don't have as much energy. and definitely couldn't deal with the complexity of the mixed time signatures of the dillinger escape plan. they don't deserve chris, but it was his decision to leave. for money or personal reasons, what have you.
zhahhaa your fucking dumb... dillinger plays this shit for a reason nigger. They are well capable of playing coheed songs... but this is there style and if its not your style then dont fucking listen to it... no need to bash bands..
Why do you cut your hair, get a new car, anything.... people need new things, challanges experiences etc etc. From the start they bothe awesome bands. very different and yet very similar. Claudio is an extremely talanted guy. For him to sing and play guitar the way he does, if your an type of musican. would respect he's skill. Those are not in ear monitors. If they were in ear monitors they would be in his ears. Those are noise canceling headphones. The point of which is to drown out the band so that the drummer can follow the click track.

Of course their music is a hell of a lot more complicated than Muddy Waters but like I said I'm not saying they aren't great I'm saying they aren't "unpredictable".
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well, I felt guilty name dropping it 'cause it makes me seem like a pretentious fuck but it was the first thing that came to mind because getting into grindcore and then hearing Stravinsky for the first time is really what got me into music seriously. I have always sung in various choirs and been exposed to classical music since I was 11 but it was never interesting til I heard polytonal/polyrythmic music and atonal/serial stuff. Lucky break that you knew what I was talking about I guess, haha.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think the only unpredictable bands in the core vein are the early ones y'know 80s hardcore late 80s early 90s grindcore cuz everything is fresh when it starts and then fizzles out core is reaching the end of it's life and so these guys aren't as unpredictable as they say . . . I mean I was watching Zack de la Rocha's first band Inside Out last night and even that 90s core was at least intense but now it's just not got that primitive edge that unpredictability.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If you haven't yet check out the Miraculous Mandarin by Bartok . . . also because it makes me feel subconcious about mentioning Zack de la Rocha, I don't like RATM that much only a couple songs. I found Inside Out becuz I liked Zack's voice but was tired of how "fake" the rest of the band sounds most of the time, I like Tire Me and Freedom but most RATM I hate. It's off and on really.
i fucking love dillinger and alot of other bands considered 'math' i just hate the phrases mathcore and math metal it makes the music sound as if there is no creativity involved.
on the contrary, math implies a certain percentage of excess intelligence and creativity throughout the bands' (which are termed as mathcore bands) process of writing down songs...the fact they complete bitchslap standard time signatures cannot be considered as a lack of creativity

They are hardcore. Not metal, not metalcore which both suck.

the whole "math thing" is your own comment. if you dont like dillinger, than keep your comment to your self.
hellogoodbuyy 3 years ago
i fucking love dillinger and alot of other bands considered 'math' i just hate the phrases mathcore and math metal it makes the music sound as if there is no creativity involved.
mohercore 3 years ago
on the contrary, math implies a certain percentage of excess intelligence and creativity throughout the bands' (which are termed as mathcore bands) process of writing down songs...the fact they complete bitchslap standard time signatures cannot be considered as a lack of creativity
georgetical 3 years ago
I think "math metal" makes it seem uber-creative.
