MJ's death is still news even if its to do with entertainment. He had a global impact and there was global mourning, he should've been mentioned.

Who says only those two things determine "news"? And I'd say the sudden accidental death of a relatively young father of three at the hands of an inexperienced "doctor" who still has yet to even be charged and is now back at work is what you could classify as "violent". Michael is also the best selling artist of the year and caused for many CDs to sell like they haven't in years, to me, that's "financial".

Look I want you to know that all that I'm saying are my opinions, I have no right to say what is news or entertainment news. It's just that when I go to watch channels like CNN I don't want news about a famous artist dying, or how many people Tiger Woods is sleeping with, I mean I don't mind a quick coverage, but CNN did like a 2 week coverage on MJ's death. If I want news about those sort of things I go watch the E! channel.

Well most of the extensive coverage on MJ's death can be explained by :

1) He died in a pretty news-hollow period.

Remember, the healthcare debate wasn't full on (began around end of July), Economists were pretty silent about any the financial situation and it was summer ffs.

2) No one of his musical magnitude had ever died in this tech era. I recall seeing utube clips uploaded just hours after his death was offical.

I agree with Woods but with Michael it's different for so many reasons. There was a time around 1997 where Michael was literally the most famous man alive, even more so than the American president. We're not dealing with a mere "celebrity" here which is why the reporting on his death was unusual.
