@MrDosteovsky Glad you love it. I only wish I'd done a better job filming. It was my first digital camera and I forgot I had a playback screen! With the camera up to my eye, I couldn't see where the fishing line was :) Also, it was on full zoom...not good for close-ups!
@0FreezeMan0 That's the sound is the wail....used among a family of loons to move closer together. I think another loon might have made that. These two were raising the alarm...likely in response to the eagle which had just flown to it's nest nearby. The wail is the sound I hear most often at the lake and seems to be more in the evening or at night....maybe coming home to the nest or something. I love that sound.
Sucks about losing the fish but what a great experience to be on the lake like that with friends and family, listening to the loon calls, and just having a good time!
You're right...it was a grand morning. As for losing the fish, I always root for them to get away. All our bunch knows that I don't fish.... just love being out on the water with them and my camera. :)
i have music that 1 play 24/7 in my house with the call of the loons since i dont have any where i live. i absolutely adore loons...most beautiful singing voices ive ever heard. thank you for sharing :) i wanna visit that lake now
I love loons they remind me of being a kid we used to take vacations on the lakes of NW wisconsin and I woke up to loon calls every morning, best alarm clock ever
i remember always falling asleep to a symphony occuring out in our bay everynight up on lake vermillion in north mn... most relaxing noise ive ever heard :)
did anyone know that they make this call during a fireworks show? we had bought some fireworks in SC and brought them back to NY for fourth of july and the loons started calling after every firework! (no i swear officer, these are perfectly legal!)
I think I heard Ron Paul. i DID, i DID hear Ron Paul!

how big are they i know wat they look like but are they like the size of a duck?
Poisonsoldier67 2 years ago
They're like a large duck...not the little wood ducks you see....almost as big as a goose.
afosan 2 years ago
oh rlly i thought they were a little smaller than that thnx for the info
Poisonsoldier67 2 years ago
@afosan I wouldn't go as far as saying they are as big as a goose but they are similar to the size of a green head duck.

Yes, loons are wonderful...I grew up in NW Wisconsin near Siren...summer nights they flew over our house from one lake to the other. Enchanting.

I absolutely ADORE loons.
I hear them constantly when I'm up at my lake house in Ontario.
They're amazing to fall asleep to.

I agree! I am from Nova Scotia and for a while I lived in a house next to a lake. I always stopped what I was doing to listen to them.
